Healthy a...Aims: to analyze the presence and simultaneity of behavioral risk factors for chronic non-communicable disease (NCD) in adults and the elderly. Methods: quantitative, cross-sectional and observational study. Healthy and unhealthy eating are classified according to the frequency of food consumption. Smoking is expressed by the percentage of smokers. Harmful alcohol consumption by the percentage of individuals who consumed alcoholic beverages at least once in the last 30 days. Classification of the level of physical inactivity required to practice at least 150 minutes of physical activity. Results: the sample constituted 719 people, 535 adults and 184 elderly. The behavioral risk factor reported by most adults 499 (93.3%) and elderly 156 (84.8%) was unhealthy eating. Frequency 72% higher of smoking, four times higher of harmful alcohol consumption and 10% higher of unhealthy food among adults when compared to the elderly. The simultaneity between risk factors was 39% greater in adults than in the elderly. Discussion: risk factors evaluated in this study are key aspects of the development of NCDs. Adults have 2.43 times the chance of presenting two risk factors and 7.73 times the chance of presenting three in relation to the elderly. Conclusion: To achieve more effective and differentiated results, knowing and directing measures to control behavioral risk factors, whether isolated or concurrent, requires specific knowledge.展开更多

Let P be a polynomial of uniqueness for meromorphic functions in K or C or in an open disk. Let f , g be two transcendental meromorphic functions in the whole field K or in C or meromorphic functions in an open disk of K that are not quotients of bounded analytic functions. We show that if f′P′（ f ） and g′P′（g） share a small function α counting multiplicity, then f=g, provided that the multiplicity order of zeros of P′satisfy certain inequalities. A breakthrough in this pa-per consists of replacing inequalities n≥k＋2 or n≥k＋3 used in previous papers by Hypothesis （G）. For any desired SOP, we first adjust t...We propose and demonstrate a novel scheme of semi-open-loop polarization control(SOL-PC), which controls the state of polarization(SOP) with high accuracy and uniform high speed. For any desired SOP, we first adjust the initial SOP using open-loop control(OLC) based on the matrix model of a three-unit piezoelectric polarization controller, and quickly move it close to the objective one. Then closed-loop control(CLC) is performed to reduce the error and reach precisely the desired SOP. The response time is three orders faster than that of the present closed-loop polarization control, while the average deviation is on par with it. Finally, the SOL-PC system is successfully applied to realize the suppression of the polarization mode dispersion(PMD) effect and reduce the first-order PMD to near zero. Due to its perfect performance, the SOL-PC energizes the present polarization control to pursue an ideal product that can meet the future requirements in ultrafast optical transmission and quantum communication.展开更多
Objective:To determine and compare the fecundity of Clarias gariepinus(C.gariepinus)fed with Unical aqua feed and Coppens feeds in concrete tanks,including the nature of relationship that exist between fecundity and m...Objective:To determine and compare the fecundity of Clarias gariepinus(C.gariepinus)fed with Unical aqua feed and Coppens feeds in concrete tanks,including the nature of relationship that exist between fecundity and morphometric indices of fish such as total length and total weight.Methods:An experiment was conducted for 6 months in the fish farm of University of Calabar with two triplicate groups of 50 C.gariepinus post-fingerlings.The experimental fish weighing(0.50±0.02)kg were stocked in concrete tanks(circular)of 16.63 m^(2)area.The tanks were labelled A_(1),A_(2),A_(3),B(1),B(2)and B(3).Fish in tank A_(1),A_(2)and A_(3)were fed with Coppens feed and fish in tanks B(1),B(2)and B(3)were fed with Unical aqua feed.Feeding was done twice daily(9:00 and 16:00)at 3%of their body weight.Results:Mean fecundity of C.gariepinus fed with Unical aqua feed(68366.67±15966.29)eggs varied significantly(P<0.05)from C.gariepinus fed with Coppens feed(61833.83±11692.31)eggs.A linear relationship was observed between fecundity and biometric indices(total length,total weight and ovary weight)of C.gariepinus fed with the two feeds.Food conversion efficiency of C.gariepinus fed with Coppens feed(50.94%±0.91%)was insignificantly higher(P>0.05)than C.gariepinus fed with Unical aqua feed(50.37%±1.29%).Water quality parameters including ammonia(mg/L),pH,water temperature(°C)and dissolved oxygen(mg/L)fell within the recommended range for the culture of fresh water fish.Conclusions:Fecundity of C.gariepinus reared in concrete tank was significantly influenced by the experimental feed.Therefore,on the bases of affordability and availability to farmers,Unical aqua feed is more economical and is recommended as a cost-effective cultivation of female C.gariepinus broodstock.展开更多
