The article examines the unsteady mixed convection flow over a vertical stretching sheet in the presence of chemical reaction and heat generation or absorption with non-uniform mass transfer. The unsteadiness is caused by the time dependent free stream velocity varying arbitrarily with time. Non-similar solutions are obtained nu- merically by solving the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations using the quasi- linearization technique in combination with an implicit finite difference scheme. To reveal the tendency of the solutions, typical results for the local skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are presented for different values of parameters. The effects of various parameters on the velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions are discussed here. The present numerical results are compared with the previously published work, and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. 展开更多

Unsteady MHD natural convective heat and mass transfer flow through a semi-infinite vertical porous plate in a rotating system have been investigated with the combined Soret and Dufour effects in the presence of Hall current and constant heat flux. It is considered that the porous plate is subjected to constant heat flux. The obtained non-dimensional, non-similar coupled non-linear and partial differential equations have been solved by explicit finite difference technique. Numerical solutions for velocities, temperature and concentration distributions are obtained for various parameters by the above mentioned technique. The local and average shear stresses, Nusselt number as well as Sherwood number are also investigated. The stability conditions and convergence criteria of the explicit finite difference scheme are established for finding the restriction of the values of various parameters to get more accuracy. The obtained results are illustrated with the help of graphs to observe the effects of various legitimate parameters. 展开更多

The aim of this article is to present the effects of transpiration on the unsteady two-dimensional boundary layer flow of non-Newtonian fluid passing through a stretching sheet in the presence of a first order constructive/destructive chemical reaction. The upper-convected Maxwell (UCM) model is used here to characterize the non-Newtonian behavior of the fluid. Using similarity solutions, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary ones and are then solved numerically by the shooting method. The flow fields and mass transfer are significantly influenced by the governing parameters. The fluid velocity initially decreases as the unsteadiness parameter increases and the concentration decreases significantly due to the increase in the unsteadiness. The effect of increasing values of transpiration (suction) and the Maxwell parameter is to suppress the velocity field; however, the concentration is enhanced as transpiration (suction) and the Maxwell parameter increase. Also, it is found that the fluid velocity decreases as the magnetic parameter increases; however, the concentration increases in this case. 展开更多

The vibration of thermodynamic machinery will affect its cooling system. In this research,a high-resolution simulation of jet impingement was performed to quantify the unsteady turbulent convection under vibration conditions.A newly developed Self-Adaptive Turbulence Eddy Simulation(SATES)method was used. The Reynolds number was Re=23000,the jet-towall distance was fixed at H/D=2,and the vibrating frequency of the impinging wall f varied from 0 to 200 Hz.Compared with the static wall case, the maximum enhancement of the stagnation point and area averaged Nusselt number within r/D=1 could reach up to 5%due to the larger primary vortices, whereas it could reduce the heat transfer by 10%beyond r/D=3 due to the suppression of the wall vortices development.Based on the unsteady analysis and Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD)pattern, the modes controlled by vibration were recognized and their contributions to the heat transfer performance were also evaluated. The introduction of the vibration promoted the development of the primary vortices and changed the radial alternating motion to a vertical alternating motion at the wall jet region. The former was beneficial for the heat transfer, while the latter was unfavorable. 展开更多
