Chinese cities are experiencing rapid motorization and road construction over the last two decades,so we have tried to use different measurements for commuting cost in these cities to estimate the empirical model, and concluded that most results support the Muth-Mills assertion. The elasticities of the urban spatial size with respect to the signifi cant variables are discussed, comparing to those for cities in the United States. The results we obtain from both theoretical and empirical analyses can further increase our understanding on the model as a tool for a policy analysis on cities in China.展开更多

It is observed that urban land use growth in Beijing went beyond the control of urban planning, in terms of the extraordinary high growth rate and undesired spatial pattern. The rate of urban expansion after 1982, which was predominated by growth of industrial land, was extraordinary high compared to its historical period. While its growth centers have been actively shifting toward the northern part, rather than toward the southern and eastern parts as designated by the latest General Plan (1991–2010) of Beijing, its spatial pattern of urban land use growth in general was in distinct concentric sprawl, which seriously violated the General Plan of Beijing.展开更多

Large amounts of investment on oil and gas industry have important effect on the infrastructure which includes cities and communications, and this will become an important factor of changing the urban structure of Xinjiang. In the 1950s, Kelamayi and Dushanzi cities have appeared by the petroleum exploration in the west of the Juggar Basin, which not only changed the single role of Xinjiang oasis agricultural city but also made the distribution of cites broken from natural oasis for the first time, and the network trend of urban spatial structures emerged. In recent years, the large-scale petroleum exploration in Tuna, Juggar and Tarim Basins gives local cities more chance of rapid development. Especially, a large-scale communication construction, with the 552 km desert highway as representative, totally changed the traditional oasis spacial structure of the urban system in the Tarim Basin. The influence on the spacial structure of the urban system by oil exploration in a large-scale reserve basin can be divided into four stages.展开更多

Firstly, based on base station location data and mobile phone signaling data, the paper analyses the number of users connecting to each base station, and further generates the maps of mobile phone user density through kernel density analysis. We move on to calculate the multi-day average user density based on a time frame of 10:00 and 23:00 at workdays and 15:00 and 23:00 at weekends for Shanghai Central City. Then, through spatial aggregation and density classifi cation on the density maps of 10:00 at workdays and 15:00 at weekends, we identify the ranks and functions of public centers within Shanghai Central City. Lastly, we identify residential areas, business off ice areas, and leisure areas in Shanghai Central City and measure the degree of functional mix by comparing the ratio of day and night user density as well as the user density at nighttime of workdays and weekends.展开更多

Taking the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) and Boswash as study area, we mapped the subpixel-level impervious surface coverage of the BTH and Boswash, respectively, from 1972 to 2011. Further, landscape metrics, gravitational model and spatial analysis were used to analyze the differences of the spatial structures between the BTH and Boswash. The results showed that(1) the area of the impervious surface increased rapidly in the BTH, while those remained stable in the Boswash.(2) The spatial structure of the BTH experienced different periods including isolated cities stage, dual-core cities stage, group cities stage and network-style cities stage, while those of the Boswash was more stable, and its spatial pattern showed a "point-axis" structure.(3) The spatial pattern of high-high assembling regions of the impervious surface exhibited a "standing pancake" feature in the BTH, while those showed a "multi-center, local aggregation and global discrete" feature in the Boswash.(4) All the percentages of the impervious surface of ecological, living, and production land of the BTH were higher than those of the Boswash. At last, from the perspective of space optimization of urban agglomeration, the development proposals for the BTH were proposed.展开更多

文摘In recent years, regional integration of Chinese cities has gradually developed.Meanwhile, metropolitan areas and urban agglomerations have taken shape. On the one hand, the development of the metropolitan area has brought about urban spatial expansion,as well as population and economic growth. On the other hand,it has led to problems such as the urban sprawl and suburbanization, increasing pressure on environmental resources, and the decline of urban central areas.Under this background, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan Outline proposes to accelerate the integration of Guangzhou-Foshan(Guang Fo)Metropolitan Coordinating Region(MCR),and to construct a networked space pattern driven by urban poles and shafts.Based on the academic research of Metropolitan Coordinating Region(MCR),as well as the theory of urban spatial structure and morphology, this study focus on urban spatial patterns and elements in different scales, from two individual cites(Guangzhou and Foshan),Guang Fo MCR,to Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao(GHM)Greater Bay Area. With GIS and the mapping method, the spatial elements such as green space, water system,built-up area, road network, rail transit network and main pivot points of the Guang Fo MCR are classified, laid out individually and again overlaid in order to figure out the relationship of these elements. At the same time, through the comparative case study of the Randstad MCR in the Netherlands, the enlightenment of solving the development problem of MCR is hopefully to be obtained. As delta cities, the Guang Fo MCR is cut by the multi-channel water network, while the urban built-up area is concentrated in the middle of the MCR and spread out along the traffic corridor to the suburban district. The traffic structure of the Guang Fo MCR is characterized by the outward radiation of the central area of Guangzhou and Foshan.Simultaneously, the traffic connection between Guangzhou and Foshan is relatively weak.Compared with the polycentric spatial structure, which is called Decentralized Compact pattern of Randstad MCR,the Guang Fo MCR presents a city form with little hierarchy but homogeneity, and its urban space is disorderly spread. The bluegreen system of water and vegetation is fragmented because of the urban invasion in Guang Fo MCR,while the green heart in central Randstad is well preserved. As a result,it is well advised to explore a more resilient and ecological urban development in Guang Fo MCR.

文摘Understanding the relationship between urban development and environmental sustainability to achieve‘double carbon’goals in China can be strengthened by evaluating the environmental effect of urban spatial structure(US).However, there have been few studies that consider the differentiated effects of polycentric US(PUS)on carbon emissions from both functional and morphological perspectives simultaneously. Thus, taking China’s 31 provinces as experimental subjects, our study developed a novel framework with remotely sensed nighttime light(NTL)data to quantify morphological PUS(MPUS)and functional PUS(FPUS)from 2000 to 2019.Then,from these two dimensions, differentiated effects of PUS on carbon emissions were further examined. Results indicated that NTL data presented high potential in quantifying MPUS and FPUS.The effect of FPUS on carbon emission-cutting outperformed that of MPUS.In addition, the spillover effect effectively enhanced the decreasing effect of the FPUS on carbon emissions. Our empiricalfindings can provide guidance for the government in developing strategies for reducing carbon emissions and optimizing USs.

文摘With rapid economic development, the size of urban land in China is expanding dramatically. The Urban Growth Boundary(UGB)is an expandable spatial boundary for urban construction in a certain period in order to control the urban sprawl.Reasonable delineation of UGB can inhibit the disorderly spread of urban space and guide the normal development of the city.It is of practical significance for the construction of green urban space. The study utilizes GIS technology to establish a land construction suitability evaluation system for Nankang city, which is experiencing rapid urban expansion, and outlines the preliminary UGB under the future land use simulation(FLUS)model. At the same time, considering the coupled coordination of"Production-Living-Ecological Space",and based on the suitability evaluation,we revised the preliminary UGB by combining the advantages of the patch-generating land use simulation(PLUS)model and the convex hull model to delineate the final UGB.The results show that:1)the comprehensive score of the evaluation of the suitability of the construction of land from high to low shows the distribution of the center of the city to the surrounding circle type spread, the center of the city has the highest suitability score. The results of convex hull model show that the urban expansion type of Nankang is epitaxial. In the future, the urban expansion will mainly occur in the northern part of the city. The PLUS model predicts an increase of 3359.97 hm^(2)of construction land in Nankang by 2035,of which 2022.97 hm^(2)is urban construction land.2)The FLUS model has a prediction accuracy of 86.3%and delineates a preliminary UGB area of 9215.07 hm^(2).3)We used the results of the construction suitability evaluation,PLUS model simulation results, and convex hull model predictions to revise the originally delineated UGB.The final delineated UGB area is 8895.67 hm^(2)and it is capable of meeting the future development of the study area. The results of the delineation can promote sustainable urban development, and the delineation methodology can provide a reference basis for the preparation of territorial spatial planning.

文摘Analysis of urban spatial structures is an effective way to explain and solve increasingly serious urban problems. However, many of the existing methods are limited because of data quality and availability, and usually yield inaccurate results due to the unclear description of urban social functions. In this paper,we present an investigation on urban social function based spatial structure analysis using building footprint data.An improved turning function(TF)algorithm and a selforganizing clustering method are presented to generate the variable area units(VAUs)of high-homogeneity from building footprints as the basic research units.Based on the generated VAUs,five spatial metrics are then developed for measuring the morphological characteristics and the spatial distribution patterns of buildings in an urban block.Within these spatial metrics, three models are formulated for calculating the social function likelihoods of each urban block to describe mixed social functions in an urban block, quantitatively.Consequently, the urban structures can be clearly observed by an analysis of the spatial distribution patterns, the development trends, and the hierarchy of different social functions. The results of a case study conducted for Munich validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

文摘Given the differences between cities in the United States and China, and the changing structure of Chinese cities, this paper examines the viability of some basic predictions of the Muth-Mills model of urban spatial structure for modern cities in China, using data for the year 2010. The results we obtain from both theoretical and empirical analyses can further increase our understanding on the model as a tool for a policy analysis on cities in China.
文摘After illustrating the concept of Urban Growth Theory and Urban Growth Management,by taking relevant theoretical research literatures for reference, based on the specific conditions of Chongqing City, the paper had analyzed the spatial growth and evolution of Chongqing City, and the spatial influence mechanism for urban growth management. The spatial influence mechanism of Chongqing urban growth had been divided into four aspects including natural environment, economic development, urban traffic organization and regional policy planning, which were considered as the primary mechanism, driving mechanism, essential condition and driving force of urban spatial growth and development, respectively. From the perspective of analyzing problems, the comprehensive analysis had been conducted on the urban growth management in economy and planning, and corresponding urban growth space management strategies had been formulated. From the perspective of combining theory with practice,it had studied and revealed the spatial influence mechanism for urban growth management, which was of practical guiding significance to the development of Chongqing urban space pattern, and also vital significance to the construction of theoretical system of Chinese urban management and guidance of further development and renovation of specific urban planning.

文摘By using digitized land use maps of Beijing in 1982, 1992 and 1997 and employing GIS spatial analysis techniques, this paper conducts an empirical study on the spatial differentiation and spatial patterns of urban land use growth in Beijing in the period of 1982–1997. It is observed that urban land use growth in Beijing went beyond the control of urban planning, in terms of the extraordinary high growth rate and undesired spatial pattern. The rate of urban expansion after 1982, which was predominated by growth of industrial land, was extraordinary high compared to its historical period. While its growth centers have been actively shifting toward the northern part, rather than toward the southern and eastern parts as designated by the latest General Plan (1991–2010) of Beijing, its spatial pattern of urban land use growth in general was in distinct concentric sprawl, which seriously violated the General Plan of Beijing.

文摘The strategic mineral resource exploration has important influence on the modern urban system in arid areas. The influence on the spacial structure of the urban system by oil exploration in a large-scale reserve basin can be divided into four stages.

文摘Taking Shanghai Central City as its case study, this paper presents an approach to exploring the urban spatial structure through mobile phone positioning data. Lastly, we identify residential areas, business off ice areas, and leisure areas in Shanghai Central City and measure the degree of functional mix by comparing the ratio of day and night user density as well as the user density at nighttime of workdays and weekends.

文摘Under the background of China's rapid urbanization, study on comparative analysis of the spatial structure of urban agglomerations between China and the US can provide the policy proposals of space optimization for the Chinese government. At last, from the perspective of space optimization of urban agglomeration, the development proposals for the BTH were proposed.
