Recently,analog visual transmission has attracted considerable attention owing to its graceful performance degradation for various wireless channels.In this study,we propose a novel analog visual communications system...Recently,analog visual transmission has attracted considerable attention owing to its graceful performance degradation for various wireless channels.In this study,we propose a novel analog visual communications system,named DVCast,in which an image denoising algorithm is used to fully utilize spatial correlation;moreover,the variable block size Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT)is used to preserve more correlation information in an image.Obviously,there is a tradeoff between system performance and computing complexity.Therefore,to improve the real-time performance of the proposed system,implementation of Block Matching with 3D filtering(BM3D)and DCT by Graphics Processing Units(GPUs)is introduced.According to DCT block size,i.e.,88,1616,and 3232,the schemes DVCast8,DVCast16,and DVCast32,respectively,are designed and implemented.Simulations show that DVCast with larger block size achieves better gain and visual quality than reference schemes.Moreover,it requires less computing time.DVCast32 outperforms conventional digital schemes by approximately 3.51 dB and achieves a 1.12 dB gain over state-of-the-art reference schemes.Furthermore,the analysis shows that DVCast can reduce overhead by at least 75%.展开更多

Female cichlid fish living in African great lakes are known to have sensory systems that are adapted to ambient light environments.These sen-sory system adaptations are hypothesized to have influenced the evolution of...Female cichlid fish living in African great lakes are known to have sensory systems that are adapted to ambient light environments.These sen-sory system adaptations are hypothesized to have influenced the evolution of the diverse male nuptial coloration.In rock-dwelling Lake Malawi mbuna cichlids,however,the extent to which ambient light environments influence female sensory systems and potentially associated male nuptial coloration remains unknown.Yet,the ubiquitous blue flank coloration and UV reflection of male mbuna cichlids suggest the potential impacts of the blue-shifted ambient light environment on these cichlid's visual perception and male nuptial coloration in the shallow water depth in Lake Malawi.In the present study,we explored whether and how the sensory bias of females influences intersexual communication in the mbuna cichlid,Metriaclima zebra.A series of choice experiments in various light environments showed that M.zebra females (1)have a pref-erence for the blue-shifted light environment,(2)prefer to interact with males in blue-shifted light environments,(3)do not show a preference between dominant and subordinate males in full-spectrum,long-wavelength filtered,and short-wavelength filtered light environments,and (4)show a"reversed"preference for subordinate males in the UV-filtered light environment.These results suggest that the visual perception of M.zebra females may be biased to the ambient light spectra in their natural habitat by local adaptation and that this sensory bias may influence the evolution of blueand UV reflectivepatterns in male nuptial coloration.展开更多

However, the distortion of the single photon counti...Single photon counting imaging technology has been widely used in space environment detection, astronomy observation, nuclear physics, and ultraweak bioluminescence. However, the distortion of the single photon counting image will badly affect the measurement results. Therefore, the correction of distortion for single photon counting image is very significant. Ultraviolet single photon imaging system with wedge and strip anode is introduced and the influence factor leading to image distortion is analyzed. To correct original distorted image, three different image correction methods, namely, the physical correction, the global correction, and the local correction, are applied. In addition, two parameters, i.e., the position index and the linearity index, are defined to evaluate the performance of the three methods. The results suggest that the correction methods can improve the quality of the initial image without losing gray information of each counting light spot. And the local correction can provide the best visual inspections and performance evaluation among the three methods.展开更多

A fast macroblock mode selection algorithm is proposed to reduce the computa- tional complexity of multiview depth video coding. The proposed algorithm, implementing on a joint coding scheme, combines an effective prediction mechanism and an object boundary discriminating method. The prediction mechanism which is designed based on the macroblock mode similarities reduces the number of macroblock mode candidates in depth video coding. The object boundary discriminating method extracts the regions, which are with discontinuous depth values and important for virtual view rendering, by using macroblock deviation factor. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly promote the coding speed of depth video by 2.00-3.40 times, while maintaining high rate distortion (RD) performance in comparison with the full search algorithm.展开更多
