Dear Sir,I am Dr.Daniel Ting, from the Department of Ophthalmology,Singapore National Eye Centre,Singapore.I write to present a case of a surprising significant visual improvement following a prolonged 5-month retained subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid.Retained perfluorocarbon liquid(PFCL)has been shown to cause decreased visual acuity, retinal pigment epithelial(RPE)toxicity, retinal degeneration and gravity deformation , 展开更多

Background: As a cause of blindness, ocular injury constitutes 1.5% of all causes of blindness. In the developed world, trauma is also the leading cause of unilateral blindness and is preceded only by the cataract as a cause for vision impairment. Males are much more likely than females to sustain ocular trauma. The ocular effects of trauma can be far-reaching, so timely intervention is of prime importance to improve the visual outcome. General Objective: To evaluate the visual outcome after ocular injury. Methods: This study was conducted at Nagri Eye Hospital, Ahmadabad. In total, 68 eyes of 68 patients with eye injury were included in this study. Detail history was taken from the entire patient and a detailed ocular examination was done. Results: The mean age of incidence of the patients was 25.39 ± 16.89. The commonest age group presented with ocular trauma was i.e., 11 - 20 yrs. A great majority of patients were male with the mean age of 25.89 ± 16.55 accounting for 83.82%. The majority of the patients have visited the hospital in between the time period of 24 hrs - 1 wk (57.35%), followed by 23.52% within the time period of p-value Conclusions: The majority of cases were youth males with the age group of 25 yrs. All the cases with ocular trauma were unilateral. The trauma was common in industrial workers with the majority of the cases of blunt type. There was satisfactory visual improvement in patients who followed-up well. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate a possible correlation between visual acuity(VA) prognosis and the presence at baseline of various orbital and ocular signs in patients affected by indirect traumatic optic neuropathy(ITON). METHODS: From July 1 st, 2012 to July 1 st, 2015, 224 adults diagnosed with ITON who underwent endoscopic transethmosphenoid optic canal decompression(ETOCD) were reviewed. Visual outcome before and after treatment were taken into comparison. RESULTS: Accompanied older in age, longer time to medical treatment and existence of optic canal fracture(OCF) were the independent predictors for poor postoperative VA and lower improvement degree of visual acuity(IDVA), while worse preoperative VA was predictive factor for poor postoperative VA only. Mean value of IDVA in patients with OCF was 0.19±0.30. Mean value of IDVA in patients without OCF was 0.29±0.35. IDVA in cases without OCF was significant higher than those with OCF(t=2.272, P〈0.05). CONCLUSION: Patients suffered from ITON without OCF before ETOCD have better surgical outcome than those with OCF. Older in age, longer time to medical treatment and existence of OCF are independent factors for poor VA prognosis and lower IDVA. Preoperative VA is independent factor for VA prognosis only. 展开更多

Background:The aim of this research was to investigate the changes in the vision-related resting-state network (V-RSN) in pituitary adenoma (PA) patients after vision improvement, which was induced by operative treatment. Methods:Ten PA patients with an improved visual acuity or/and visual field after transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection were recruited and underwent a complete neuro-ophthalmologic evaluation,as well as an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocol, including structural and resting-state functional MRI sequences before and after the operation. The regional homogeneity (ReHo) of the V-RSN was evaluated. Two sample t-test was performed to identify the significant differences in the V-RSN in the PA patients before and after transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection. Results:Compared with the preoperation counterparts, the PA patients with improved vision after the operation exhibited reduced ReHo in the bilateral thalamus, globus pallidus, caudate nucleus, putamen nucleus, supplementary motor area, and left hippocampal formation, and increased ReHo in the bilateral cuneus gyrus, calcarine gyrus, right lingual gyrus, and fusiform gyrus. Conclusions:PA patients with improved vision exhibit increased neural activity within the visual cortex, but decreased neural activity in subareas of the multisensory and multimodal systems beyond the vision cortex. 展开更多
