In this study, an approximately 10-mm-long nerve segment from the ischial tuberosity in the rat was transected and its proximal and distal ends were inverted and sutured. The spinal cord was subjected to pulsed electrical stimulation at T10 and L3, at a current of 6.5 m A and a stimulation frequency of 15 Hz, 15 minutes per session, twice a day for 56 days. After pulsed electrical stimulation, the number of neurons in the dorsal root ganglion and anterior horn was increased in rats with sciatic nerve injury. The number of myelinated nerve fibers was increased in the sciatic nerve. The ultrastructure of neurons in the dorsal root ganglion and spinal cord was noticeably improved. Conduction velocity of the sciatic nerve was also increased. These results show that pulsed electrical stimulation protects sensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia as well as motor neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord after peripheral nerve injury, and that it promotes the regeneration of peripheral nerve fibers.展开更多

[Method] Limonium bicolor (Bunge) Kuntze was treated with 0, 100, 200 and 400 mmol/L NaCl, respectively. After two weeks, root vitality, biomass and other physiological indicators were measured. [Result] Salt stress had significant influences on the growth of roots. Root vitality of Limonium bicolor increased firstly and reduced gradually with the increase of salt concentration. [Conclusion] The results indicate that Limonium bicolor has certain salt tolerance ability at low salt concentrations; under relatively high salt concentrations, Limonium bicolor roots can maintain high vitality; however, with the continuous increase of salt concentration, Limonium bicolor roots are damaged, with decreasing vitality.展开更多

[Method] With Shangqie1 as an experiment material, the effects of red light, blue light, red-blue light, red-blue light and white light(control) on the carbon-nitrogen metabolism and root vitality of eggplant were investigated. [Result] Different light quality significantly affected sugar and starch contents in leaves of eggplant. Under the red-blue light(5∶1) treatment, the sucrose, total sugar and starch contents were the highest, and the values were higher than those under the white light treatment by 3.47%, 13.61% and 33.49%,respectively. The fructose content was the highest under white light. Under red-blue light(3∶1) and red-blue light(5∶1), the nitrate nitrogen contents were higher than that under white light, indicating that compound light affects nitrate content not only by simple superposition of light quality, but also by other type of interaction effect. The free amino acid and soluble protein contents under blue, red-blue(3∶1), red-blue(5∶1) and red light treatments were all higher than those under the white light treatment, and the blue light treatment exhibited the highest values, which were higher than those under white light by 24.89% and 46.62%, respectively, with significant differences. The red-blue light(5 ∶1) treatment exhibited the highest root vitality of eggplant, which was higher than that under the white light treatment by 31.85%. The red light treatment had the second highest root vitality, which was higher than that under the white light treatment by 19.30%, followed by the red-blue light(5∶1) treatment, and the blue light treatment showed the lowest value. [Conclusion] Under red-blue light(5 ∶1) treatment, eggplant had vigorous carbon-nitrogen metabolism and the highest root vitality.展开更多

Saraca asoca (Roxb.) Willd. (Family-Caesalpinaceae) is one such tree which has become vulnerable in nature due to over exploitation of its bark. Four nutrient media [MS (Murashige and Skoog Medium), WPM (Woody Plant Medium), B5 (Gamborg’s Medium) and NN (Nitsch and Nitsch Medium, 1969)] and five doses of BA (N6-Benzyladenine) (0, 2.2, 4.4, 8.8 and 17.8 μM) and their all possible interactions were tested for shoot induction and proliferation from nodal segments of 3-year-old plants. B5 medium supplemented with 2.2 μM BA was screened out as the most suitable medium shoot induction, proliferation and elongation of regenerated shoots. In order to enhance shoot number, the nitrogen source in B5 medium was modified and five strengths of KNO3 (0.25×, 0.5×, 1.0×, 1.25× and 1.5×) were tested. The different strengths of KNO3 (Potassium nitrate) had statistically significant effect on number of shoots and on 0.25× strength of KNO3, maximum number of shoots (1.92) were obtained. The modified strengths of KNO3 did not significantly affect the elongation of shoots. Effect of 5 durations (quick dip, transfer of shoots after 1 day, after 3 days, after 5 days and after 7 days) of pulse treatment with 200 μM IBA (Indole-3-butyric acid) in 1/2 strength MS liquid medium was tested. Thereafter, the shoots were transferred to semi-solid half strength MS medium supplemented with 0.2 μM IBA and 3.96 μM phloroglucinol. Pulse treatment of 5 days duration resulted in 37.5% in vitro rooting of shoots. Plantlets were hardened in soilrite soaked with half strength MS medium in culture room and later shifted to a soil mixture in shade house.展开更多

Report 1 describes a case of a 29-year-old patient who suffered a mandibular trauma affecting mainly the lower central incisors, caused by a car accident. A panoramic radiograph was taken right after the accident and showed a horizontal root fracture in the middle third of tooth 42, which went untreated. Report 2 illustrates a case of a 17-year-old male patient who searched for orthodontic therapy and the periapical radiograph showed horizontal root fracture in tooth 11 caused by a previous trauma, which went untreated as well. There was healing through the reestablishment of pulp activity and dental coloration without professional intervention.展开更多
