It is estimated that by 2025 the population will have reached 32 million, placing the country sixth in the world in the population of elderly people. To assess the results of respiratory training associated with functional training on respiratory muscle strength, lung function, and functionality of the elderly. The sample was composed of 40 elderlies, divided into four groups, the experimental group with functional training, one experimental group with functional training associated with respiratory training, one experimental group with respiratory training, and the fourth group, the control group. After the initial and final evaluations, the variables measured were: The Breathing Test, Sit to Stand Test, the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire, and Spirometry. Twenty appointments were conducted twice a week. There were significant differences for variables maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressure;more accentuated in the associated group when compared to the respiratory group;forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume in the first second/forced vital capacity were meaningful in the associated group;peak expiratory flow means values increased after the intervention;in the six-minute walk test, we noticed a trend to increase values after the intervention. Functional training as well as associated respiratory muscle training provide the most beneficial changes compared only to functional and respiratory training. Therefore, this may be an effective clinical training method for patients’ elderly.展开更多

Previous research highlights the benefits of isolated lumbar extension training for non-specific lower back pain, however, studies examining its efficacy in lumbar multifidus dysfunction are lacking. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of isolated lumbar extension resistance training on disability and strength in individuals with lumbar multifidus dysfunction. Methods: Subjects underwent a physiotherapy led structured rehabilitation program incorporating isolated lumbar extension. Sessions were conducted twice weekly targeting momentary muscular failure with time under load 90 - 120 seconds and progressions aimed at 5 - 10 lbs increments. Outcomes were assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index and lumbar extension strength testing at baseline and after 12 weeks, with statistical analysis using t-test and chi-squared 2 × 2. Results: Forty-five subjects (24 male, 21 female) with a median age of 48 completed the intervention. Improvements were noted in Oswestry Disability Index scores (median pre: 24, post: 15) and maximal lumbar extension strength (median pre: 122 lb, post: 186 lb), with p ≤ 0.05. Overall, 89% showed improvement in disability scores, 67% moved to a better disability category, and 51% saw at least a 50% increase in strength. No significant gender differences were observed. Conclusions: Isolated lumbar extension resistance training is effective at improving extension power and disability in subjects with lumbar multifidus dysfunction.展开更多

Nine previously untrained men (aged 25 [SD 3] years at the beginning of the study, standing height 1.73 [SD 0.07] m, body mass 68.9 [SD 8.1] kg) completed 6-week of high load-resistance training (HL-RT) (75% of one repeti-tion maximal [1RM], 3-sets, 3x/wk) followed by 12 months of detraining. Following this, subjects completed 6 weeks of low load-resistance training (LL-RT) to volitional fatigue (30% 1 RM, 4 sets, 3x/wk). Increases (p 0.05) in magnetic resonance imaging-measured triceps brachii and pectorals major muscle cross-sectional areas were similar for both HL-RT (11.9% and 17.6%, respectively) and LL-RT (9.8% and 21.1%, respectively). In addition, both groups increased (p 0.05) 1RM and maximal elbow extension strength following training;however, the percent increases in 1RM (8.6% vs. 21.0%) and elbow extension strength (6.5% vs. 13.9%) were significantly (p 0.05) lower with LL-RT. Both protocols elicited similar increases in muscle cross-sectional area, however differences were observed in strength. An explanation of the smaller relative increases in strength may be due to the fact that detraining after HL-RT did not cause strength values to return to baseline levels thereby producing smaller changes in strength. In addition, the results may also suggest that the consistent practice of lifting a heavy load is necessary to maximize gains in muscular strength of the trained movement. These results demonstrate that significant muscle hypertrophy can occur without high-load resistance training and suggests that the focus on percentage of external load as the important deciding factor on muscle hypertrophy is too simplistic and inappropriate.展开更多

Twin studies demonstrate that genetic factors partially explain the inter-individual variation of fat-free mass (FFM) and muscle strength. PURPOSE: To examine the association between the polymorphism of the gene IGF-2 with phenotypes strength and muscle mass of elderly women pre and post resistance training. METHODS: 76 elderly women participated in this analysis. These volunteers, who should be sedentary for at least 6 months before the study, were assigned four groups in relation to allele GAGG, AA, GAAA and GG. The first analysis compared 60 elderly women with GG and GA allele (GAGG) versus 16 elderly women with AA allele. The second analysis compared 54 elderly women with GA and AA (GAAA) versus 22 elderly women GG allele. The Body mass index, fat free mass, fat mass and Isokinetic Muscle Peak Torque were measured. All volunteers were participating in the Resistance Training program. The DNA was extracted from peripheral venous blood leukocytes using a salting out protocol. The primer for IGF-II gene exon 9 was 5’-GTCCCTGAACCAGCAAAGAG-3’ 0.5 μM (0.625 μl) Primer R-5’-TGATGGAAAAGGGAGTGAGG-3’ 0.5 μM (0.625 μl), Taq DNA Polimerase enzime 0.5 U (0.1 μl), água milli-Q (3.8 μl) 5 hg de DNA (3 μl). PCR amplification was performed in a programmable thermal cycler GeneAmp? PCR System 9700. RESULTS: The results of the first analysis GAGG × AA versus the group AA showed the relative increase in knee extensor peak torque relative and also in the fat-free mass and showed a decrease in the fat mass percentage in the GAGG group. The second analysis considered the group GAAA versus group GG showed decreases in the fat-free mass percentage in the GAAA group, also showed the relative increase in the fat-free mass in the GG group and decrease in the fat mass percentage in the GG group. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study show that 24 weeks of the resistance training improved strength and muscle mass and decreased the fat mass. The results confirm this assertion and suggest the G allele presents more influence over the A allele, in relation to phenotypes strength and muscle mass in elderly women after resistance training.展开更多

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise order of combined aerobic and resistance training into the same session on body composition, muscle strength and arterial stiffness in the elderly. Thirty-one elderly subjects (70.5 ± 3.5 years) were randomly assigned to 3 groups; AR: aerobic before resistance training, RA: resistance before aerobic training and CON: no training. Subjects trained 2 times per week for 10 weeks. Resistance training consisted of 3 sets of 8-12 repetitions for 5 different exercises, 70%-80% of one repetition maximum (1RM). Aerobic exercise consisted of cycling at 60% of heart rate reserve (HRR). Significant interaction effects were observed in body fat percentage (P 〈 0.01) and 1RM (P 〈 0.01). However, no significant differences were observed between AR and RA. In contrast, pulse wave velocity (PWV) significantly reduced in the RA (8.8± 2.1 m/s to 7.6 ± 1.9 m/s, P 〈 0.05), while PWV increased in the AR (7.9 ± 2.8 m/s to 10.0 ± 2.6 m/s, P 〈 0.01), and there was significant difference between AR and RA (P 〈 0.05). In conclusion, no effects of the exercise order were observed in body composition and muscle strength. However, aerobic exercise after resistance training reduced arterial stiffness and difference of exercise order was observed.展开更多

文摘The purpose of this study was to determine whether the training responses observed with low-load resistance exercise to volitional fatigue translates into significant muscle hypertrophy, and compare that response to high-load resistance training. These results demonstrate that significant muscle hypertrophy can occur without high-load resistance training and suggests that the focus on percentage of external load as the important deciding factor on muscle hypertrophy is too simplistic and inappropriate.
文摘There is a recent and growing interest in assessing differential responders to resistance training(RT)for diverse outcomes. Thus, the individual ability to respond to an intervention for a specific measurement, called responsiveness, remains to be better understood. Thus, the current study aimed to summarize the available information about the effects of RT on functional performance and muscle strength, power, and size in healthy adults, through the prevalence rate in different responsiveness classifications models.A systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA)and was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews(PROSPERO,CRD42021265378).PubMed/MEDLINE,Scopus,and Embase databases were systematically searched in October 2023.A total of 13 studies were included, totaling 921 subjects.Only two studies presented a low risk of bias.Regarding the effectiveness of RT,the prevalence rate for non-responders ranged from 0%to 44%for muscle strength, from 0%to 84%for muscle size, and from 0%to 42%for functional performance, while for muscle power, the only study found showed a responsiveness rate of 37%.In conclusion,a wide range of differential responders is described for all variables investigated. However, the evidence summarized in this systematic review suggested some caution while interpreting the findings, since the body of evidence found seems to be incipient, and widely heterogeneous in methodological and statistical aspects.

文摘Different from limb rehabilitation training, the purpose of muscle strength training is to reduce muscle atrophy and increase muscle strength and tolerance through strength training of limb muscles, and then improve the muscle strength level of muscles(groups),mainly for sports fitness and muscle strengthening groups and patients with muscle atrophy or muscle weakness caused by various diseases. In this paper,we developed a new reconfigurable muscle strength training robot,a bionic robot by imitating physicians to conduct muscle strength training for patients, which was developed with six training modes for 17 joint movements, that is,the shoulder flexion/extension,the shoulder internal/external rotation, the shoulder adduction/abduction,the elbow flexion/extension,the wrist supination/pronation,the wrist flexion/extension,the wrist radial/ulnar deviation, the hip flexion/extension,the hip internal/external rotation, the hip adduction/abduction,the knee flexion/extension,the ankle dorsiflexion/plantarflexion,the ankle adduction/abduction,the ankle inversion/eversion,the waist flexion/extension,the waist left/right rotation, and the waist left/right flexion. The reconfigurable mechanism was designed with fully electric adjuster and reconfigurable adaptors deployed on the driving unit, and six training modes were developed, namely, continuous passive motion, active exercise, passive–active exercise, isotonic exercise, isometric exercise and isokinetic exercise.Experiments with knee joint and elbow joint have shown that the developed reconfigurable muscle strength training robot can realize the multi-mode trainings for the 17 joint movements.

文摘BACKGROUND: It is well established that the human aging process is associated with a significant decline in neuromuscular function and performance. The results confirm this assertion and suggest the G allele presents more influence over the A allele, in relation to phenotypes strength and muscle mass in elderly women after resistance training.
文摘When combined aerobic and resistance training into the same session is performed, the exercise order may lead to different effects with respect to factors such as muscle strength, hormone responses, energy metabolism, and vascular function. However, aerobic exercise after resistance training reduced arterial stiffness and difference of exercise order was observed.
