The author believes that the first stage of Neolithic Wangwan I culture named in the Report should be further divided into two sub-stages corresponding to the Banpo and Miaodigou phases respectively of the Yangshao culture. Concerning the classification of the Neolithic Wangwan Ⅱ Culture remains, he agrees with the Report. As for the cultural nature of the Neolithic Wangwan Ⅲ remains, he does not subscribe to the view of the Report that they belong to the"'Sanliqiao type' of the Henan Longshan culture. " He assigns them to the “Wangwan type” of Central Plains Longshan culture or the “Wangwan Ⅲ culture.” Besides, he makes evaluation on other problems of the Report.展开更多

In the winter of 1996, the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out excavation here in coordination with the construction of the Huanghe Xiaolangdi Reservoir. The work resulted in the revelation of a pottery-making kiln, two tombs and 19 ash-pits in the excavated area of above 400 sq m. The kiln is in a rather good condition. The pottery unearthed includes the ding tripod, jar, flared-rimmed basin, bo bowl, thick-lipped basin and vessel lid. It suggests that the site belongs to the Wangwan type of Yangshao culture. Chronologically the site corresponds to the second phase of the culture, and its early stage seems conformable to the late first phase.展开更多
