Maintaining eco-health of urban waterscapes with imbedded integrating ecological entity: Experimental approach

An imbedded integrating ecological entity(IIEE) was designed to combine landscaping, replenishing-water purifying and ecosystem maintaining simultaneously. With this IIEE, within 15 d experiment, simulated replenish water(SRW) with high(SRW-Ⅰ) or low(SRW-Ⅱ) nutrients concentration was well purified. Relative removal rates of CODCr, TP, TN, Chl-a and turbidity reached 84.87%, 84.05%, 94.76%, 188.17%, 110.93% when dealing SRW-Ⅰ, and 52.62%, 90.05%, 82.44%, 166.15%, 202.99%, respectively, when dealing SRW-Ⅱ. The well grew flora and fauna of IIEE benefit eco-maintaining and landscaping. Separately, the maximal root and stem length-increments of Cyperus alternifolius Linn. were 26.1 mm and 28.4 mm, while for Potamogeton crispus Linn. 18.3 mm and 25.7 mm. Mortality for both Bellamya aeruginosa and Misgurnus anguillicaudatus was both under 2.96%. The analysis of variance(ANOVA) indicated that most experimental indexes in each group performed more significantly better than those in their control. All results indicated that the IIEE is a promising technology for future urban waterscapes construction. 展开更多

The effect of aeration and waterscape structures reaeration system on nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency in revetment wetlands was studied by laboratory simulation. The results showed that the removal efficiency of TN, TP in tranquil flow waterscape was 61% and 72%; aeration and waterscape structure system promoted nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency in revetment wetland through increasing the DO content in the water, compared with system without artificial oxygen, the removal efficiency of TP in waterscape structures increased by 11. 6%-19. 1%, and that of TN increased by 10.5%-16. 1%; meanwhile, disturbance brought by the waterscape structure systems enhanced the adsorption of TP and flocculation effect; in addition, nitrification was confirmed as the main control step of TN removal in revetment wetland system. 展开更多

Evidence-Based Design Application of Water Landscaping for Rehabilitation Gardens for Patients with Mental Disorders

The aim of the article is to explore the influence of the water landscape design of a rehabilitation garden for patients with mental disorders on the recovery effect of patients,intending to provide a better rehabilitation environment for patients with mental disorders.Based on literature research,this article reviews three aspects of evidence-based design theory,the concept of water landscape in rehabilitation gardens,and the types of water features in rehabilitation gardens.The results show that well-designed water features can significantly improve patients’psychological state and reduce anxiety and stress,and that water landscape design in rehabilitation gardens is an effective rehabilitation tool that can facilitate the recovery process of patients with mental disorders.Future designs should take into full consideration patients’needs and preferences,as well as best practices in waterscape design,to maximize its positive impact on patients’recovery. 展开更多

Taking representative hotels in Guangzhou City for examples,this study investigated ecological waterscape designs in those hotels from the perspective of eco-design of animals and plants,water and bank.It was proposed that the eco-design of animals and plants requires the scientific application and combination of indigenous plants to protect bio-diversity and create a balanced ecosystem;eco-design of water should focus on the construction of an excellent water circulation system;eco-design of bank should help enhance the relationship between waterscapes and viewers,and satisfy human's nature of loving water.Besides,problems in those hotel waterscape designs were also analyzed and corresponding suggestions put forward,for example,in view of ecological problems in the design of water circulation system and the improvement of water quality,it was proposed that a water eco-balance system should be created and water kept clean;in view of security problems caused by polluted water,protective measures should be taken to guarantee safety of customers;as for those waterscapes with poor landscape effects,various means could be applied to improve its quality and show its best artistic effects;the overall planning of waterscape operation and maintenance should be enhanced to save water resources and operation cost. 展开更多

It considers that in waterscape design, it should select a design style suitable for local climate, traditional culture and folk customs; respect the nature and be close to nature; and approach the life and fit in with the reality. In terms of flowing water and solid water, it should make a reasonable and comprehensive design in terms of time, space and pattern, develop new landscape factors, and enrich winter landscape; set indoor waterscape; and enrich color design. By taking waterscape design of the residential area "Riverbank House" for example, it has stressed the solid character of water to highlight snow and ice culture and northeastern style, so as to create a natural and vivid snowy and icy landscape. By introducing the public satisfaction theory,the 4-grade evaluation index system of public satisfaction was established on the basis of the public attitude towards waterscape project of Weihe Park as well as other research fruits.Questionnaires were designed and handed out to 196 respondents to investigate psychological status of the public.Then extension evaluation was adopted to figure out the public satisfaction,and the results showed that 86.46% of the respondents were more satisfied with the project.Therefore,citizens of Baoji City held a positive attitude towards the waterscape project of Weihe Park. 展开更多

Significance of modern campus waterscape planning and design for improving the overall image of university, enriching campus culture and promoting the moral, intellectual and physical development of students was analyzed, landscape features of water and water-loving nature of people were elaborated, moreover, Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University taken for an example to show the role of waterscape in campus design. It was stressed that water can make environment more active and define spaces; waterscapes are of great plasticity in landscape design and able to adjust microclimate. Living examples were taken to discuss waterscape design on campuses from the perspectives of spatial design, scale design, cultural and ecological properties, and design of waterfront spaces, combination of waterscapes and other campus environment elements.
