I will first discuss different definitions of Web accessibility. The beneficiaries of accessible Web or the sufferers from inaccessible Web will be discussed based on the type of disability. The importance of Web accessibility will be introduced from the perspectives of ethical, demographic, legal, and financial importance. Web accessibility related standards and legislations will be discussed in great detail. Previous research on evaluating Web accessibility will be presented. Lastly, a system for automated Web accessibility transformation will be introduced as an alternative approach for enhancing Web accessibility.展开更多

Instead of focusing on the user traffic for web pages, we capture the user interaction at the object level of the web pages. Our framework model consists of three sub-models: one for user file access, one for web pages, and one for storage servers. Web pages are assumed to consist of different types and sizes of objects, which are characterized using several categories: articles, media, and mosaics. The model is implemented with a discrete event simulation and then used to investigate the performance of our system over a variety of parameters in our model. Our performance measure of choice is mean response time and by varying the composition of web pages through our categories, we find that our framework model is able to capture a wide range of conditions that serve as a basis for generating a variety of user request patterns. In addition, we are able to establish a set of parameters that can be used as base cases. One of the goals of this research is for the framework model to be general enough that the parameters can be varied such that it can serve as input for investigating other distributed applications that require the generation of user request access patterns.展开更多

This may lead to a biased evaluation when the distribution of checkpoint violations in a website is skewed and the selected samples do not provide a good representation of the entire website. To improve sampling quality, stratified sampling methods first cluster web pages in a site and then draw samples from each cluster. In existing stratified sampling methods, however, all the pages in a website need to be analyzed for clustering, causing huge I/O and computation costs. To address this issue, we propose a novel page sampling method based on URL clustering for web accessibility evaluation, namely URLSamp. Using only the URL information for stratified page sampling, URLSamp can efficiently scale to large websites. Meanwhile, by exploiting similarities in URL patterns, URLSamp cluster pages by their generating scripts and can thus effectively detect accessibility problems from web page templates. We use a data set of 45 web sites to validate our method. Experimental results show that our URLSamp method is both effective and efficient for web accessibility evaluation.展开更多

Nevertheless, many tools, which could help them to access the web, are available. E-commerce websites have been also intensively and widely used. The e-commerce market in Saudi Arabia will hit $13.3 billion by 2015. This huge investment requires e-commerce websites to be accessible by different types of users. This paper explores the tools that usually used by disabled users while using the web. It also discusses a number of available tools that help designers, developers and testers to assess web accessibility. It also evaluates the accessibility of 3 popular Arab e- commerce websites using 5 accessibility testing tools;namely Achecker, TAW, Eval Access, MAUVE and FAE. This research has found that Most accessibility guidelines are covered by Achecker tool. Navigation, readability, input assistance and timing are the common found accessibility problems while assessing the accessibility of the targeted websites. It has been also revealed that HTML can influence accessibility evaluation as HTML errors are considered as accessibility problems. It has been clearly observed that improvements are needed for better web accessibility, although some tools did report a small number of accessibility problems for some websites.展开更多

Currently, the WCAG documents are maintained as a non-computable dictionary like resources. In this study, we proposed a methodology to develop an ontological knowledge base with rules for the WCAG 2.0. Two WCAG techniques in different groups of techniques are used to illustrate the creation of the knowledge base and their application programming interfaces. For demonstrating purpose, a web-based WCAG validation system is built. With the proposed knowledge base and interfaces, computer programs can decide whether certain web content satisfies a particular WCAG technique. In other words, the WCAG documents have been successfully trans-formed to a computable recourse. Such sharable knowledge base and programming interfaces can be embedded into any system requiring the WCAG knowledge.展开更多

Software developers can build their systems by multiple invocations of these services. This research is devoted to investigating the management and data flow control over enterprise academic web applications where web services and developed academic web application are constructing infrastructure-networking scheme at the application level. Academic web services are invoked over http port and using REST based protocol;thus traditional access control method is not enough to control the follow of data using host and port information. The new cloud based access control rules proposed here are to be designed and implemented to work at this level. The new proposed access control architecture will be a web service gateway, and it published itself as a service (SaaS). We used three case studies to test our moodle and then we apply JSON parsers to perceive web service description file (WSDL file) and supply policies according to data are to be allowed or denied based on user roll through our parsing.展开更多
