A new web-based architecture that integrates the management and sharing functions is developed and implemented.Earth scientists can utilize this system to not only manage their data, but also easily communicate and share it with other researchers.Data query methods provide the core functionality of the proposed management and sharing modules. The modules in this system have been developed using cloud GIS technologies, which help achieve real-time spatial area retrieval on a map. The system has been tested by approximately 263 users at Jilin University and Beijing SHRIMP Center. A survey was conducted among these users to estimate the usability of the primary functions of the system, and the assessment result is summarized and presented.展开更多

This paper describes the development and application of a web-based watershed management spatial decision support system, WebWMPI. The WebWMPI uses the Watershed Management Priority Indices (WMPI) approach which is a prioritizing method for watershed management planning and it integrates land use/cover, hydrological data, soils, slope, roads, and other spatial data. The land is divided into three categories: Conservation Priority Index (CPI) land, Restoration Priority Index (RPI) land, and Stormwater Management Priority Index (SMPI) land. Within each category, spatial factors are rated based on their influence on water resources and critical areas can be identified for soil conservation, water quality protection and improvement. The WebWMPI has user-friendly client side graphical interfaces which enable the public to interactively run the server side Geographic Information System to evaluate different scenarios for watershed planning and management. The system was applied for Dry Run Creek watershed (Cedar Falls, Iowa, US) as a demonstration and it can be easily used in other watersheds to prioritize crucial areas and to increase public participation for soil and water conservation projects.展开更多

The general handover key derivation method which is used in handover procedures in LTE is not suitable for handover in this scenario because of its long time cost and the weak security. To solve this problem, this paper has proposed a new local gateway assisted handover key derivation schema in enterprise femtocell network. It can meet the fast derivation and good forward/backward key secrecy requirement of handover key derivation in enterprise femtocell network. The simulation result has verified that the proposed handover key derivation schema works better than the existing method.展开更多

At present, from an operational perspective, almost all contractors pay more attention to maintaining their equipment fleets in well-sustained workable conditions and having a high accessibility of the necessary equipment pieces. However, such an approach alone is not enough to maintain an efficient and sustainable business. In particular, for largescale construction companies that operate in multiple sites in the U.S. or overseas, the problem extends to an optimal allocation of available equipment. Given the current state of the construction industry in the U.S., this problem can be solved by geographically locating equipment pieces and then wisely re-allocating them among projects. Identifying equipment pieces geographically is a relatively easy task. The difficulty arises when informed decision-making is required for equipment allocation among job sites. The actual allocation of equipment should be both economically feasible and technologically preferable. To help in informed decision-making, an optimization model is developed as a mixed integer program. This model is formed based on a previously successfully developed decision-support model for construction equipment selection. The proposed model incorporates logical strategies of supply chain management to optimally select construction equipment for any construction site while taking into account the costs, availability, and transportation-relatedissues as constraints. The model benefits those responsible for informed decision-making for construction equipment selection and allocation. It also benefits the owners of construction companies, owing to its cost-minimization objective.展开更多

Toaddress the multiple demands for timely construction performance monitoring, Crossrail envisioned theunderground construction information management system (UCIMS) to monitor construction progressand structural health along the entire route, with a network of geotechnical instruments (i.e. slope inclinometers, extensometers, piezometers, etc.) and tunnel boring machine (TBM) position information. The UCIMS is a geospatially referenced relational database that was developed using an open sourcegeographic information system (GIS) that allowed all stakeholders near immediate feedback of constructionperformance. The purpose of this article is to provide a brief history of geotechnical andstructural monitoring software, to describe the structure and operation of the UCIMS, and to demonstratehow the functionality afforded by this system provided the requisite feedback to the stakeholders.Examples will be given regarding how the data management and visualization concepts incorporatedinto the UCIMS advanced the geotechnical construction industry. 2015 Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
