Secondly, a new method to determine the model parameters which can be applied to the situations under different confining pressures was proposed, by deeply studying the relations between the model parameters and characteristic parameters of the full stress-strain curve under different confining pressures. Therefore, a unified statistical damage constitutive model for rock softening which can reflect the effect of different confining pressures was set up. This model makes the physical property of model parameters explicit, contains only conventional mechanical parameters, and leads its application more convenient. Finally, the rationality of this model and its parameters-determining method were identified via comparative analyses between theoretical and experimental curves.展开更多

The formulation of the problem is simplified with an uncoupled approach. Based on experimental results of plastic damage, most of the damage in the material are con- sidered as small damage with the critacal damage variable ω_c<<1. Using this approach, closed form ex- pressions of the near tip damage fields for mode Ⅲ, mode I and the temperature distribution induced by plastic dissipation in a hardening material containing damage are deduced. We point out that the temperature distribution in the process zone is strongly dependent on the damage of materials even for the small damage case. The results of the predicted value of the temperature rise near the tip region ignoring the damage effect is appreciably higher than the observed data. The main reason of this discrepancy is the presence of damage dissipation and the fact that its influence on the calculation of plas- tic dissipation have not been appropriately taken account of. The calculation is improved by taking in- to account the damage effect on the temperature rise, then the T_(max) value is in better accord with the experimental value.展开更多

The moment tensor solution and focal mechanism are inverted using the digital long-period waveform records of China Digital Seismograph Network (CDSN). Under the 355-nm laser irradiation, the size dependence of the defect embedded in the fused silica can be illustrated through the thermal conduction model. Considering CeO2 as the major initiator, the size distribution with the power law model is determined from the damage probability statistics. To verify the accuracy of the size distribution, the ion output scaling with depth for the inclusion element is obtained with the secondary ion mass spectrometer. For CeO2 particulates in size of the depth interval with ion output satisfied in the negative exponential form, the corresponding density is consistent with that of the identical size in the calculated size distribution. This coincidence implies an alternative method for the density analysis of photoactive imperfections within optical components at the semi-quantitative level based on the laser damage tests.展开更多

A total of 80 plots were systematically and randomly sampled to record damaged trees(bending, crushing and wounding) by class of hillside gradient and materials at the edge of road. Tree wounding and crushing at rock slopes was significantly greater than at hillsides with a mix of clay soil(p / 0.05). Damage on hillsides with slope gradients[45% were 2, 8.5 and 2.3 times more frequent than on hillsides with slope gradient/15% for bending, crushing and wounding, respectively. The damage distribution varied according by type and the most frequent damage was tree wounding(p / 0.05). The damage distribution was measured at distances of 4, 5 and 8 m from the road fillslope for tree bending, crushing and wounding, respectively. Using hydraulic excavators and physical barriers(wooden obstruction and synthetic holder) during earthworks for road construction could reduce these damage.展开更多

The relationships of the NBEE (NWEE) and other lifetime distribution classes are discussed. It is proved that the NBEE is very large, and increasing failure rate (IFR), new better than used (NBU) and the L class are its subclasses. The closure properties under two kinds of reliability operations, namely, convolution and mixture, are investigated. Furthermore, a Poisson shock model and a special cumulative model are also studied, in which the necessary and sufficient conditions for the NBEE (NWEE) lifetime distribution of the systems are established. In the homogenous Poisson shock model, the system lifetime belongs to NBEE(NWEE) if and only if the corresponding discrete failure distribution belongs to the discrete NBEE(NWEE). While in the cumulative model, the system has an NBEE lifetime if and only if the stochastic threshold of accumulated damage is NBEE.展开更多

The box counting method (BCM) was employed to calculate the fractal dimension (FD) of AE spatial distribution. There is a similar correlation between the fractal dimension and the load strength for different rock specimens. The fractal dimension presents a decreasing trend with the increase of load strength. For the same kind of specimens, their FD values will decrease to the level below a relatively same value when they reach failure. This value can be regarded as the critical value, which implies that the specimen will reach failure soon. The results reflect that it is possible to correlate the damage of rock with a macroscopic parameter, the FD value of AE signals. Furthermore, the FD value can be also used to forecast the final failure of rock. This conclusion allows identifying or predicting the damage in rock with a great advantage over the classic theory and is very crucial for forecasting rockburst or other dynamic disasters in mines.展开更多

In previous empirical data processing methods, the data grouping and distribution fitting were excessively coarse and contained distinctive defects. This paper proposed an effective approach to statistically group actual measured dynamic stress data and validly extrapolate the combined distribution to fit the dynamic stress spectrum distribution. This approach has been verified its effectiveness through chi-square test, stress spectrum extrapolation and damage calculation in dynamic stress study.展开更多

Precise morphologies of damaged sites display strikingly different features when the samples are subjected to various number of incident pulses, which are explained reasonably by the standing-wave field distribution within the coatings. Meanwhile, the single-pulse laser-induced damage threshold of the "standard" mirror is improved by about 14% while suppressing the normalized electric field intensity at the outmost interface of the HfO2 and SiO2 layers by 37%. Media claims have been made and the perception created that the most damaging impact of hurricanes is on the lowest income population in the affected states. If these claims are true, they may have serious implications for the insurance industry and government policy makers. We develop a panel data, fixed effects econometric model that includes hurricane-impacted states as cross-sections using annual data for a period of almost 100 years. The Gini coefficient is used as a measure of income inequality, and is a function of normalized hurricane economic damages, gross domestic product(GDP), a set of socioeconomic variables that serves as a control, time trend, and cross-sectional dummy variables.Findings indicate that for every 100 billion US dollars in hurricane economic damages there is an increase in income inequality by 5.4 % as measured by Gini coefficient.Political, sociodemographic, and economic variables are also significant. These include such variables as the political party controlling the U.S. Senate, the proportion of nonwhite population by state, and GDP. Time trend is a positive and significant variable, suggesting an increase in income inequality over time. There are significant differences among the states included in the study. Our results demonstrate that different segments of the population are differently impacted by hurricanes and suggest how that differential impact could be considered in future government policies and business decisions, particularly those made by the insurance industry.展开更多

Using hydraulic excavators and physical barriers(wooden obstruction and synthetic holder) during earthworks for road construction could reduce these damage.

文摘A class of lifetime distributions, new better than equilibrium in expectation (NBEE), and its dual, new worse than equilibrium in expectation (NWEE), are studied based on the comparison of the expectations of lifetime X and its equilibrium Xo. While in the cumulative model, the system has an NBEE lifetime if and only if the stochastic threshold of accumulated damage is NBEE.
文摘Distribution networks denote important public infrastructure necessary for people’s livelihoods. However, extreme natural disasters, such as earthquakes, typhoons, and mudslides, severely threaten the safe and stable operation of distribution networks and power supplies needed for daily life. Therefore, considering the requirements for distribution network disaster prevention and mitigation, there is an urgent need for in-depth research on risk assessment methods of distribution networks under extreme natural disaster conditions. This paper accessesmultisource data, presents the data quality improvement methods of distribution networks, and conducts data-driven active fault diagnosis and disaster damage analysis and evaluation using data-driven theory.Furthermore, the paper realizes real-time,accurate access to distribution network disaster information. The proposed approach performs an accurate and rapid assessment of cross-sectional risk through case study. The minimal average annual outage time can be reduced to 3 h/a in the ring network through case study. The approach proposed in this paper can provide technical support to the further improvement of the ability of distribution networks to cope with extreme natural disasters.

文摘In this paper, the influence of forced installation caused by a hole-location error on the 3D stress distribution and damage of a composite bolted joint is investigated. An analytical model of stress distributed on composite holes is promoted,in view of non-uniform extrusion caused by forced installation. At first,non-uniform extrusion of the hole edge caused by forced installation is analyzed.According to the contact state, expression of hole deformation is given. Then, based on Hertz theory, the maximum extrusion load is obtained with help of deformation expression.By constructing an elastic foundation beam model,3D stress distributed on a hole could be analyzed according to the extrusion load. Then, stress distribution predicted by the above analytical method is compared with that provided by FE considering composite damage. Finally,a forced installation experiment is carried out to analyze the damage distribution of the joint. Results show that a central-symmetrically distributed stress is introduced by the hole-location error. With an increment of the error, strength of composite decreases due to extrusion damage. Therefore, stress presents a concave distribution on the hole.As the hole-location error exceeding 3%,stress decreases gradually due to failure of composite.Damage of holes does not exhibit a centrosymmetric distribution.Serious damage is mainly distributed on the entrance of the hole at the lower sheet.

文摘The spatial distribution of acoustic emission (AE) events in the failure process of several rock specimens was acquired using an advanced AE acquiring and analyzing system. This conclusion allows identifying or predicting the damage in rock with a great advantage over the classic theory and is very crucial for forecasting rockburst or other dynamic disasters in mines.

文摘The determination of structural dynamic stress spectrum distribution is of great signifi- cance in the structural fatigue strength evaluation as well as reliability design. This approach has been verified its effectiveness through chi-square test, stress spectrum extrapolation and damage calculation in dynamic stress study.

文摘Ferritic/martensitic(F/M)steel is widely used as a structural material in thermal and nuclear power plants. However,it is susceptible to intergranular damage, which is a critical issue, under service conditions. In this study,to improve the resistance to intergranular damage of F/M steel,a thermomechanical process(TMP)was employed to achieve a grain boundary engineering(GBE)microstructure in F/M steel P92.The TMP,including cold-rolling thickness reduction of 6%,9%,and 12%,followed by austenitization at 1323 K for 40 min and tempering at 1053 K for 45 min,was applied to the as-received(AR)P92 steel. The prior austenite grain(PAG)size, prior austenite grain boundary character distribution(GBCD),and connectivity of prior austenite grain boundaries(PAGBs)were investigated.Compared to the AR specimen, the PAG size did not change significantly. The fraction of coincident site lattice boundaries(CSLBs,3≤Σ≤29)and Σ3^(n) boundaries along PAGBs decreased with increasing reduction ratio because the recrystallization fraction increased with increasing reduction ratio. The PAGB connectivity of the 6%deformed specimen slightly deteriorated compared with that of the AR specimen. Moreover, potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed that the intergranular damage resistance of the studied steel could be improved by increasing the fraction of CSLBs along the PAGBs,indicating that the TMP,which involves low deformation, could enhance the intergranular damage resistance.
文摘Single-pulse and multi-pulse damage behaviors of "standard" (with A/4 stack structure) and "modified" (with reduced standing-wave field) HfO2/SiO2 mirror coatings are investigated using a commercial 50-fs, 800-nm Ti:sapphire laser system. To discuss the damage mechanism, a theoretical model based on photoionization, avalanche ionization, and decays of electrons is adopted to simulate the evolution curves of the conduction-band electron densitv during r^ulse dHratian.
文摘This article examines the impact of catastrophic hurricane events on income distribution in hurricane states in the United States. Our results demonstrate that different segments of the population are differently impacted by hurricanes and suggest how that differential impact could be considered in future government policies and business decisions, particularly those made by the insurance industry.
