This paper reports zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating of different lithologic phases in the Weiya pluton, and discusses the genesis and tectonic environment. The ages of gabbro, quartz syenite, diorite porphyrite and fine-grained granite are 236±6 Ma, 246±6 Ma, 233±8 Ma and 237±8 Ma, respectively. All these phases were formed in early-middle Indosinian (Triassic) in a post-orogenic environment. In addition to underplating, intraplating of mantle-derived magmas is also a substantial mechanism for magma generation and vertical accretion of the continental crust. Granitoid rocks are important products of vertical continental accretion as underplating evolves gradually to intraplating. The existence of post-orogenic Indosinian granites shows that the middle Tianshan orogenic belt underwent an important tectonic conversion from the Paleo-Asian ocean subduction-collision system to the Paleo-Tethys ocean regime.展开更多

This rock, with low ratios of Ce/Pb (5.74-10.16), is notably characterized by enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILE), such as Rb, K, Ba and Pb, and in high field strength elements (HSFE), such as U and Th, but depletion in Nb and Ta. All samples of the Weiya gabbro display similar chondrite-normalized patterns with moderate enrichment in LREE (72.58-135.61ppm), moderate depletion in HREE (15.26-25.31ppm) and mild fractionation between LREE and HREE (L/ H=4.09-5.98). The average initial Sr value of the rock is 0.7069, and δ18O values of the rock range from 5.67‰-8.04‰. In terms of Nd isotope ratios, the Weiya gabbro is characterized by positive eNd(t) values (0.52-0.76). All these characteristics indicate that the source region of the Weiya gabbro was metasomatized by fluids released from subducted young continental crust, with limited crustal contamination during magma ascent and emplacement. Continental (A-type) subduction was induced by northward subduction of the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic plate during the latest Permian to Triassic. From this point of view, it is supposed that tectonic conversion from the Paleo-Asian to the Paleo-Tethys regime occurred during the latest Permian or earliest Triassic.展开更多

It is distributed along the northern margin of the Central Tianshan belt in Xinjiang, NW China and is composed of mylonitized Early Palaeozoic greywacke, volcanic rocks, ophiolitic blocks as a mélange complex, HP/LT-type bleuschist blocks and mylonitized Neoproterozoic schist, gneiss and orthogneiss. Nearly vertical mylonitic foliation and sub-horizontal stretching lineation define its strike-slip feature; various kinematic indicators, such as asymmetric folds, non-coaxial asymmetric macro- to micro-structures and C-axis fabrics of quartz grains of mylonites, suggest that it is a dextral strike-slip ductile shear zone oriented in a nearly E-W direction characterized by “flower” strusture with thrusting or extruding across the zone toward the two sides and upright folds with gently plunging hinges. The Aqqikkudug-Weiya zone experienced at least two stages of ductile shear tectonic evolution: Early Palaeozoic north vergent thrusting ductile shear and Late Carboniferous-Early Permian strike-slip deformation. The strike-slip ductile shear likely took place during Late Palaeozoic time, dated at 269±5 Ma by the40Ar/39Ar analysis on neo-muscovites. The strike-slip deformation was followed by the Hercynian violent S-type granitic magmatism. Geodynamical analysis suggests that the large-scale dextral strike-slip ductile shearing is likely the result of intracontinental adjustment deformation after the collision of the Siberian continental plate towards the northern margin of the Tarim continental plate during the Late Carboniferous. The Himalayan tectonism locally deformed the zone, marked by final uplift, brittle layer-slip and step-type thrust faults, transcurrent faults and E-W-elongated Mesozoic-Cenozoic basins.展开更多

Trace element geochemistry of zircons indicates that zircons in both gabbro and quartz syenite have two-generations. Zircons of the first generations are crystallized in the magma chamber, whereas those of the second generations are formed in supercooling environment. The former is richer in Zr, but poorer in U, Th, Hf and Y. Quartz diorite porphyrite contains zircons that can be distinguished into the early and late generations. Compared to the late generation, the early generation is richer in Zr but poorer in U, Th, Hf and Y. No conspicuous disruption of zircon evolution has been found in both biotite monzogranite and fine-grained granite. However, the content of zircon in fine-grained granite is higher in U, Th and Y and lower in Zr relative to biotite monzogranite without significant contrast in mass fraction ratio of ZrO2 to HfO2 ratio. Such differences in zircon geochemistry of various intrusive phases and the occurrence of the two zircon generations within a single intrusive phase suggest that these phases of magmas are generated from diverse sources during post-collisional continental extension. These magmas ascend rapidly and cool quickly in a short interval.展开更多
