Meanwhile, the welding heat source eficiencies obtained are compared with those of the measuring-calculating method. The research results show that the welding heat source efficiencies are almost the same as those obtained by the measuring-calculating method. Therefore, the welding heat source efficiency can be determined accurately by this method, and a new determining method of the heat source efficiency for the welding heat process calculating has been provided.展开更多

This method differs from the conventional TIG method, it places two electrodes insulated from each other in the same welding torch, and a coupling arc is generated from the two electrodes. The coupling arc pressure was measured and preliminary welding experiment was made. The results show that the coupling arc can keep arc pressure at a low level compared with conventional TIG arc, and welding can be achieved under higher current and high travel speed with sound appearance of weld. Therefore, this new method can applied widely in high effwiency welding.展开更多

Aiming at the problem of unstable droplet rotating spray transfer process in 450 A thin wire metal active gas arc(MAG) welding, a three-dimensional arc-droplet coupled model is established in this paper on the base of fluid dynamics to conduct numerical analysis for droplet transfer behavior with external magnetic controlled MAG welding, and used high-speed camera system to verify the simulation results. The results indicate that without external magnetic field, the droplet is transferred by the way of rotating spray, the arc is changeable and the spatter is serious. The electromagnetic force accelerates the radial liquid beam rotation under direct current(DC) magnetic field, and increases the angle between liquid beam and welding wire axis. Meanwhile, the rotation frequency of the liquid beam reaches 400 Hz, the area of arc column and heat loss increase under DC magnetic field. Based on the alternating magnetic field, the arc is the “bell shaped”, the arc stiffness raises, its temperature achieves 26 000 K, and the maximum speed of the liquid stream beam can reach 500 m/s. And the droplet transfer is more stable, the spatter significantly reduces, and welding quality is effectively improved.展开更多

The welding process is evaluated by high-speed photographs and electrical signals. The deposition rate and welding time are calculated to characterize the welding efficiency. The bead formation, porosity, microstructure and mechanical properties are tested and analyzed. The results indicate that though arc deflection occurs due to the electromagnetic interference between two arcs during TGMAW process, it does not affect the welding process stability significantly. The deposition rate and welding time of TGMAW process are about 15 g/min larger and about 16.7% less than those of gas metal arc welding(GMAW)process respectively, accompanied by the reduction of heat input. The TGMAW welded joint has less porosity and more refined microstructure to contribute to the improvement of mechanical properties(micro-hardness, tensile strength and ductility). It can be concluded that TGMAW process yields excellent performance of welded joint with improved welding efficiency, which makes it extremely practical during welding of thick plates.展开更多
