To investigate the effect of aerobic exercise combined with whole-body vibration (WBV) training on metabolic syndrome risk, and inflammatory markers, and to compare its effects on arterial stiffness and several blood parameters related to metabolic syndrome with those of aerobic training alone. Thirty healthy participants were divided into 2 groups matched for age and body mass index (BMI). Fifteen subjects were assigned to the WBV group (WBV + aerobic training) and the other 15 to the control group (aerobic training only). All participants performed a treadmill exercise 3 days/week for 4 weeks, for 50 min after 30 min rest period. Exercise was performed at a heart rate (HR) corresponding to 60% of the HR at each individual’s maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max). Body weight and BMI after training were significantly lower than those before training in the WBV group (P < 0.01). Concerning arterial stiffness, the pulse-wave velocity after training was significantly lower than that before training in the WBV group (1048.7 ± 105.6 vs. 1008.4 ± 101.1 cm/s, P < 0.05). Meanwhile, the VO2max after training was significantly higher than that before training in the WBV group (47.7 ± 12.8 vs. 51.4 ± 14.1 mL·min-1·kg-1, P < 0.01). However, no significant differences were observed in any parameters before and after training in the control group. Our results suggest that aerobic exercise combined with WBV training may be effective in reducing arterial stiffness and improving cardiorespiratory fitness than aerobic training alone. 展开更多

Occupational exposure to whole-body vibration is associated with the develop-ment of musculoskeletal, neurological, and other ailments.Low back pain and other spine disorders are prevalent among those exposed to whole-body vibration in occupational and military settings.Although standards for limiting exposure to whole-body vibration have been in place for decades, there is a lack of understanding of whole-body vibration-associated risks among safety and healthcare profession-als.Consequently,disorders associated with whole-body vibration exposure remain prevalent in the workforce and military. The relationship between whole-body vibra-tion and low back pain in humans has been established largely through cohort stud-ies,for which vibration inputs that lead to symptoms are rarely,if ever, quantified. This gap in knowledge highlights the need for the development of relevant in vivo,ex vivo, and in vitro models to study such pathologies. The parameters of vibrational stimuli(eg,frequency and direction)play critical roles in such pathologies, but the specific cause-and-effect relationships between whole-body vibration and spinal pa-thologies remain mostly unknown. This paper provides a summary of whole-body vibration parameters;reviews in vivo,ex vivo, and in vitro models for spinal patholo-gies resulting from whole-body vibration;and offers suggestions to address the gaps in translating injury biomechanics data to inform clinical practice. 展开更多

Objective: The aim is to present a review about the whole-body vibration (WBV) exercises in the management of cystic fibrosis (CF). Methods: Computerized literature searches were performed using the PubMed databases. Results: A strong interest in studies, considering the number of publications, involving CF and lung was found. Although, the exercises and physical activities seem to have a high relevance in the management of the patients with CF, the number of publications involving these procedures is limited. Moreover, a modality of exercise involving WBV seems to be poorly utilized by the patients with CF and only two papers were found with positive actions. Conclusion: Oscillating platform is a promising technique to manage patients with CF. Moreover, as (i) the use of the oscillating platforms is inexpensive, (ii) the vibration exercise requires less technical abilities as compared to the performance of conventional resistance training and (iii) positive clinical findings have been noticed with the use of WBV in CF, it is suggested to implement the studies involving the application of the exercises with WBV in oscillating platforms to manage the patients with CF. 展开更多

The fatigue damage caused by flow-induced vibration(FIV)is one of the major concerns for multiple cylindrical structures in many engineering applications. The FIV suppression is of great importance for the security of many cylindrical structures. Many active and passive control methods have been employed for the vibration suppression of an isolated cylinder undergoing vortex-induced vibrations(VIV).The FIV suppression methods are mainly extended to the multiple cylinders from the vibration control of the isolated cylinder.Due to the mutual interference between the multiple cylinders, the FIV mechanism is more complex than the VIV mechanism, which makes a great challenge for the FIV suppression. Some efforts have been devoted to vibration suppression of multiple cylinder systems undergoing FIV over the past two decades. The control methods, such as helical strakes, splitter plates, control rods and flexible sheets, are not always effective, depending on many influence factors, such as the spacing ratio, the arrangement geometrical shape, the flow velocity and the parameters of the vibration control devices. The FIV response, hydrodynamic features and wake patterns of the multiple cylinders equipped with vibration control devices are reviewed and summarized. The FIV suppression efficiency of the vibration control methods are analyzed and compared considering different influence factors.Further research on the FIV suppression of multiple cylinders is suggested to provide insight for the development of FIV control methods and promote engineering applications of FIV control methods. 展开更多

With its complex nonlinear dynamic behavior, the tristable system has shown excellent performance in areas such as energy harvesting and vibration suppression, and has attracted a lot of attention. In this paper,an asymmetric tristable design is proposed to improve the vibration suppression efficiency of nonlinear energy sinks(NESs)for the first time. The proposed asymmetric tristable NES(ATNES)is composed of a pair of oblique springs and a vertical spring. Then, the three stable states, symmetric and asymmetric, can be achieved by the adjustment of the distance and stiffness asymmetry of the oblique springs. The governing equations of a linear oscillator(LO)coupled with the ATNES are derived. The approximate analytical solution to the coupled system is obtained by the harmonic balance method(HBM)and verified numerically. The vibration suppression efficiency of three types of ATNES is compared. The results show that the asymmetric design can improve the efficiency of vibration reduction through comparing the chaotic motion of the NES oscillator between asymmetric steady states. In addition, compared with the symmetrical tristable NES(TNES),the ATNES can effectively control smaller structural vibrations. In other words, the ATNES can effectively solve the threshold problem of TNES failure to weak excitation. Therefore, this paper reveals the vibration reduction mechanism of the ATNES,and provides a pathway to expand the effective excitation amplitude range of the NES. 展开更多

An observer-based adaptive backstepping boundary control is proposed for vibration control of flexible offshore riser systems with unknown nonlinear input dead zone and uncertain environmental disturbances. The control algorithm can update the control law online through real-time data to make the controller adapt to the environment and improve the control precision.Specifically, based on the adaptive backstepping framework, virtual control laws and Lyapunov functions are designed for each subsystem.Three direction interference observers are designed to track the timevarying boundary disturbance. On this basis, the inverse of the dead zone and linear state transformation are used to compensate for the original system and eliminate the adverse effects of the dead zone.In addition, the stability of the closed-loop system is proven by Lyapunov stability theory. All the system states are bounded, and the vibration offset of the riser converges to a small area of the initial position. Finally, four examples of flexible marine risers are simulated in MATLAB to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller. 展开更多

When investigating the vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of marine risers, extrapolating the dynamic response on the entire length based on limited sensor measurements is a crucial step in both laboratory experiments and fatigue monitoring of real risers. The problem is conventionally solved using the modal decomposition method, based on the principle that the response can be approximated by a weighted sum of limited vibration modes. However, the method is not valid when the problem is underdetermined,i.e.,the number of unknown mode weights is more than the number of known measurements. This study proposed a sparse modal decomposition method based on the compressed sensing theory and the Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit(Co Sa MP)algorithm, exploiting the sparsity of VIV in the modal space. In the validation study based on high-order VIV experiment data, the proposed method successfully reconstructed the response using only seven acceleration measurements when the conventional methods failed.A primary advantage of the proposed method is that it offers a completely data-driven approach for the underdetermined VIV reconstruction problem, which is more favorable than existing model-dependent solutions for many practical applications such as riser structural health monitoring. 展开更多

The modeling and self-excited vibration mechanism in the magnetic levitation-collision interface coupling system are investigated. The effects of the control and interface parameters on the system's stability are analyzed. The frequency range of self-excited vibrations is investigated from the energy point of view. The phenomenon of self-excited vibrations is elaborated with the phase trajectory. The corresponding control strategies are briefly analyzed with respect to the vibration mechanism. The results show that when the levitation objects collide with the mechanical interface, the system's vibration frequency becomes larger with the decrease in the collision gap;when the vibration frequency exceeds the critical frequency, the electromagnetic system continues to provide energy to the system, and the collision interface continuously dissipates energy so that the system enters the self-excited vibration state. 展开更多

In order to suppress the low-frequency ultrasound vibration in the broadband range of 20 k Hz—100 k Hz,this paper proposes and discusses an acoustic metamaterial with low-frequency ultrasound vibration attenuation properties, which is configured by hybrid arc and sharp-angle convergent star-shaped lattices. The effect of the dispersion relation and the bandgap characteristic for the scatterers in star-shaped are simulated and analyzed. The target bandgap width is extended by optimizing the geometry parameters of arc and sharp-angle convergent lattices. The proposed metamaterial configured by optimized hybrid lattices exhibits remarkable broad bandgap characteristics by bandgap complementarity, and the simulation results verify a 99%vibration attenuation amplitude can be obtained in the frequency of20 k Hz—100 k Hz.After the fabrication of the proposed hybrid configurational star-shaped metamaterial by 3D printing technique, the transmission loss experiments are performed, and the experimental results indicate that the fabricated metamaterial has the characteristics of broadband vibration attenuation and an amplitude greater than 85%attenuation for the target frequency. These results demonstrate that the hybrid configurational star-shaped metamaterials can effectively widen the bandgap and realize high efficiency attenuation, which has capability for the vibration attenuation in the application of highprecise equipment. 展开更多

The purpose of this study is to investigate the suppression effect of a nonlinear energy sink(NES)on the wind-vortex-induced pipe vibration and explore the influence of damping, stiffness, and NES installation position on the suppression effect. In this work, the wind-vortex-induced vibration of an elastic pipe of a deepwater jacket was studied, and vibrations were suppressed by using an NES.A van der Pol wake oscillator was used to simulate vortex-induced force, and the dynamic equation of the pipe considering the NES was established. The Galerkin method was applied to discretize the motion equation, and the vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of the pipe at reduced wind speeds was numerically analyzed. The novelty of this research is that particle swarm optimization was used to optimize the parameters of the NES to improve vibration suppression. The influence of the installation position, nonlinear stiffness, and damping parameters of the NES on vibration suppression was analyzed. Results showed that the optimized parameter combinations of the NES can effectively reduce wind-vortex-induced pipe vibration. The installation position of the NES had a significant effect on vibration suppression, and the midpoint of the pipe was the optimal NES installation position. An increase in stiffness or a 10% decrease in damping may cause vibration suppression failure. The results of this study provide some guidance for VIV suppression in deepwater jacket pipes. 展开更多

For bipartite angle consensus tracking and vibration suppression of multiple Timoshenko manipulator systems with time-varying actuator faults, parameter and modeling uncertainties, and unknown disturbances,a novel distributed boundary event-triggered control strategy is proposed in this work.In contrast to the earlier findings,time-varying consensus tracking and actuator defects are taken into account simultaneously. In addition, the constructed event-triggered control mechanism can achieve a more flexible design because it is not required to satisfy the input-to-state condition. To achieve the control objectives, some new integral control variables are given by using back-stepping technique and boundary control. Moreover, adaptive neural networks are applied to estimate system uncertainties. With the proposed event-triggered scheme, control inputs can reduce unnecessary updates.Besides, tracking errors and vibration states of the closed-looped network can be exponentially convergent into some small fields, and Zeno behaviors can be excluded. At last, some simulation examples are given to state the effectiveness of the control algorithms. 展开更多

Functionally graded materials(FGMs)are a novel class of composite materials that have attracted significant attention in the field of engineering due to their unique mechanical properties. This study aims to explore the dynamic behaviors of an FGM stepped beam with different boundary conditions based on an efficient solving method.Under the assumptions of the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the governing differential equations of an individual FGM beam are derived with Hamilton’s principle and decoupled via the separation-of-variable approach. Then, the free and forced vibrations of the FGM stepped beam are solved with the transfer matrix method(TMM).Two models,i.e.,a three-level FGM stepped beam and a five-level FGM stepped beam, are considered, and their natural frequencies and mode shapes are presented. To demonstrate the validity of the method in this paper, the simulation results by ABAQUS are also given. On this basis, the detailed parametric analyses on the frequencies and dynamic responses of the three-level FGM stepped beam are carried out.The results show the accuracy and efficiency of the TMM. 展开更多

Global energy and environmental issues are becoming increasingly problematic, and the vibration and noise problem of 110 kV transformers, which are the most widely distributed, have attracted widespread attention from both inside and outside the industry.DC bias is one of the main contributing factors to vibration noise during the normal operation of transformers. To clarify the vibration and noise mechanism of a 110 kV transformer under a DC bias,a multi-field coupling model of a 110 kV transformer was established using the finite element method. The electromagnetic, vibration, and noise characteristics during the DC bias process were compared and quantified through field circuit coupling in parallel with the power frequency of AC,harmonic, and DC power sources. It was found that a DC bias can cause significant distortions in the magnetic flux density, force, and displacement distributions of the core and winding. The contributions of the DC bias effect to the core and winding are different at Kdc=0.85.At this point, the core approached saturation, and the increase in the core force and displacement slowed. However, the saturation of the core increased the leakage flux, and the stress and displacement of the winding increased faster. The sound field distribution characteristics of the 110 kV transformer under a DC bias are related to the force characteristics. When the DC bias coefficient was 1.25,the noise sound pressure level reached 73.6 dB. 展开更多

With the ongoing advancements in sensor networks and data acquisition technologies across various systems like manufacturing, aviation, and healthcare, the data driven vibration control(DDVC)has attracted broad interests from both the industrial and academic communities.Input shaping(IS),as a simple and effective feedforward method,is greatly demanded in DDVC methods. It convolves the desired input command with impulse sequence without requiring parametric dynamics and the closed-loop system structure, thereby suppressing the residual vibration separately.Based on a thorough investigation into the state-of-the-art DDVC methods, this survey has made the following efforts:1)Introducing the IS theory and typical input shapers;2)Categorizing recent progress of DDVC methods;3)Summarizing commonly adopted metrics for DDVC;and 4)Discussing the engineering applications and future trends of DDVC.By doing so,this study provides a systematic and comprehensive overview of existing DDVC methods from designing to optimizing perspectives, aiming at promoting future research regarding this emerging and vital issue. 展开更多

A transition to clean hydrogen energy will not be possible until the issues related to its production, transportation, storage, etc., are adequately resolved. Currently, however, it is possible to use methane-hydrogen mixtures.Natural gas can be transported using a pipeline system with the required pressure being maintained by gascompression stations. This method, however, is affected by some problems too. Compressors emergency stopscan be induced by vibrations because in some cases, mechanical methods are not able to reduce the vibrationamplitude. As an example, it is known that a gas-dynamic flow effect in labyrinth seals can lead to increasedvibrations. This paper presents the numerical simulation of rotor oscillations taking into account a gas-dynamicload. The influence of a transported mixture on the oscillatory process is investigated. Mixtures consisting ofmethane and hydrogen in various proportions and an air mixture are considered. The results are discussed forvarious operating pressures and include the rotor motion trajectories and oscillation frequency spectra obtainednumerically. It is shown that the gas mixture composition has a significant effect on the oscillations and theiroccurrence. Hydrogen as a working fluid reduces the vibration amplitude. Operating a compressor with hydrogenleads to a decrease in the resonant frequency, bringing it closer to the operating one. However, the operatingpressure at which maximum oscillations are observed depends slightly on the gas mixture composition. 展开更多

Due to technical limitations, existing vibration isolation and energy harvesting(VIEH)devices have poor performance at low frequency. This paper proposes a new multilink-spring mechanism(MLSM)that can be used to solve this problem. The VIEH performance of the MLSM under harmonic excitation and Gaussian white noise was analyzed. It was found that the MLSM has good vibration isolation performance for low-frequency isolation and the frequency band can be widened by adjusting parameters to achieve a higher energy harvesting power.By comparison with two special cases, the results show that the MLSM is basically the same as the other two oscillators in terms of vibration isolation but has better energy harvesting performance under multistable characteristics. The MLSM is expected to reduce the impact of vibration on high-precision sensitive equipment in some special sites such as subways and mines, and at the same time supply power to structural health monitoring devices. 展开更多

Stirred reactors are key equipment in production, and unpredictable failures will result in significant economic losses and safety issues. Therefore,it is necessary to monitor its health state. To achieve this goal,in this study, five states of the stirred reactor were firstly preset:normal, shaft bending, blade eccentricity, bearing wear, and bolt looseness.Vibration signals along x,y and z axes were collected and analyzed in both the time domain and frequency domain.Secondly,93 statistical features were extracted and evaluated by ReliefF,Maximal Information Coefficient(MIC)and XGBoost. The above evaluation results were then fused by D-S evidence theory to extract the final 16 features that are most relevant to the state of the stirred reactor. Finally, the CatBoost algorithm was introduced to establish the stirred reactor health monitoring model. The validation results showed that the model achieves 100%accuracy in detecting the fault/normal state of the stirred reactor and 98%accuracy in diagnosing the type of fault. 展开更多
