The Color Purple is a well known work of Alice Walker, which describes black women living in the bottom of that society and a course of them keep fighting for realizing spiritual liberation and personality independence, as well as equality in politics and race. Many scholars at home and abroad prefer to study this novel from feminism, womanism, and writing technique, but few study it from ecowamnism perspcctive. This thesis intends to take The Color Purple of Alice Walker as a research object, ecowomanism as a theoretical basis for reflecting ecowomanism in it and actual meanings. Only when women bravely realized their selfvalue, beauty and preciousness and knew the self-importance and being an independent person from spiritual and body, can they achieve happiness. Only we respect, close, head for nature, can harmonious coexistence with nature be realized. 展开更多

The novel Hypatia:Or New Foes With an Old Face by Charles Kingsley, published in 1853,provided valuable insight into Hypatia’s achievements and the unfortunate circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.Kingsley’s novel portrayed a fiercely intelligent woman,Hypatia, who sparked the interest of many artists, particularly sculptors. They were eager to capture in their statues the personification of this remarkable ancient mathematician, philosopher, and scientist of ancient Egypt,Hypatia of Alexandria(355-415).This essay has two parts. The first provides a brief overview of Hypatia’s life and accomplishments. The second part focuses on four sculptures from the 19th century created by different artists:Hypatia(1873-1876)by the American Howard Roberts,Hypatia(1874)by the Italian Odoardo Tabacchi,Hypatia(1890)by Francis John Williamson, and Hypatia(1894)by Richard Claude Belt. The two latter works are by British sculptors. 展开更多

What happens when a fat black woman shows up(or is exhibited)in environments with the highest media visibility? What are the relationships built between these bodies and viewers whose eyes are accustomed to consuming more homogeneous and controlled images? In this article,we see, through the analysis of famous women of modest social origin, among them the Brazilian singer MC Carol and the American presenter Oprah Winfrey, how the presence of dark skin and fat bodies, besides the markers of poverty,is still seen as faults that disorganize the idealized scenario of celebrities. In this sense,it is noticed that there is a hierarchy of celebrities, and that getting to the pulpit of high visibility and staying there are more dramatic tasks for those who do not belong to the subjective and imaginary repertoire of celebrities. This paper examines this question drawing on the concept of Weberian status as it is used in celebrity studies,at the same time that indicates the limitations of such approach. 展开更多

Introduction: The acronym SAPHO (Synovitis, Acne, Pustulosis, Hyperostosis and Osteitis) is a syndrome combining osteoarticular and cutaneous manifestations. It occurs mainly between the ages of 30 and 50. Sternocostoclavicular hyperostosis is one of the main distinguishing features. We report a case of SAPHO in Dakar diagnosed by bone scintigraphy. Observation: 28-year-old Senegalese women presented with left shoulder pain and relative functional impotence for over 2 years. Examination revealed right sternoclavicular hyperostosis and left shoulder pain on palpation. Questioning revealed a history of acne and hyperostosis of the right first toe. Bone scintigraphy, performed after injection of 630 MBq of 99mTc-HMDP, revealed: hyperfixation of the bilateral (right++) manubrio-sternal and sternoclavicular junction, producing the classic bull’s horn image;hyperfixation of the left shoulder with an inflammatory appearance;hyperfixation of the sacroiliac joints suggestive of bilateral sacroiliitis;hyperfixation of the right first toe;two mandibular hyper fixations probably related to dental damage. This scintigraphic appearance in one was strongly suggestive of SAPHO syndrome. Conclusion: SAPHO syndrome, related to spondyloarthropathy, associates cutaneous and osteoarticular signs. It is characterized by frequent delays in diagnosis due to poor recognition. Soy is an invaluable diagnostic tool, enabling us to assess the extent of the disease and its evolution. 展开更多

Black writers adapted jazz music to“say the unsayable”or employed the“jazz aesthetic,”which includes improvisation, citation, and variation as a stylistic device to distance their literature from European forms of narration. These elements can also be found in M.NourbeSe Philipp poetry collection She Tries Her Tongue,Her Silence Sofily Breaks(1988)which rigorously challenges the way language and words are perceived.Philip denounces the Western ideology of non-ambiguity,dichotomies,and narration altogether by engaging the reader as jazz musicians engage their audience. What role did music play in the Black resistance? What is the“jazz aesthetic”and how is it incorporated into Black diasporic literature? How does jazz music create community and how did Black female musicians speak up in a rather hypermasculine jazz universe? How does Philip incorporate the jazz aesthetic, improvisation, and womanist thoughts in her poems? And what is the intention of noise, dissonance, and(musical)violence? 展开更多

BACKGROUND Extragonadal yolk sac tumors(YSTs)are rare, with only a low reported tumor occurrence outside the gonads locally and abroad.Extragonadal YSTs are usually a diagnostic challenge, because they are infrequent, but also because a thoughtful and detailed differential diagnostic process must be performed.CASE SUMMARY Here we present a case of an abdominal wall YST in a 20-year-old woman admitted with a tumor in the lower abdomen close to the umbilicus. The tumorectomy was performed. The histological examination revealed characteristic findings such as Schiller-Duval bodies, loose reticular structures, papillary structures, and eosinophilic globules.According to the immunohistochemical staining, the tumor tissue was positive for broad-spectrum cytokeratin,Spalt-like transcription factor 4,glypican-3,CD117,and epithelial membrane antigen.Based on the clinical information, histological features, and immunohistochemical staining profile, the tumor was diagnosed as a YST present in the abdominal wall.CONCLUSION Based on the clinical information, histological features, and immunohistochemical staining profile described above, the tumor was diagnosed as a primary YST in the abdominal wall. 展开更多

Lament of a Northwestern Woman(Qin Fu Yin),composed by Wei Zhuang after the Huangchao uprising,is a long poem that showcases the sufferings of the civilians and embodies the people’s character of the poem, which is the profound empathy and compassion of the poet towards the civilians’plight. The poem was written during the reign of Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty in the year Gengmao(883 AD).2023 is also the year Gengmao,so this poem has existed for a remarkable 1140 years. For over a millennium, this long poem remained submerged in history until the opening of the Dunhuang Grottoes at the turn of the 20th century. The deep compassion and commiseration towards the underprivileged masses conveyed in this long poem are reminiscent of Du Fu’s renowned“Three Poems of Separation.”Moreover,it is widely believed that this poem foretells the decline of the Tang Dynasty. 展开更多

The prevalence of mental health problems among women is also increasing. However, few studies conducted in Africa provide epidemiological data on women. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological profile of women with mental health problems in Dakar. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, retrospective, descriptive study over a five-year period, from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2021. It concerned all women hospitalised for psychiatric reasons at the Psychiatry Department of Fann Hospital, Dakar, Senegal. The data collection form provided information on the sociodemographic profile, i.e., age, current address, marital status, ethnicity, religion, level of education, professional activity, and use of psychoactive substances. Results: The prevalence of mental disorders was 34.9% and concerned the following ICD-10 pathology groups [F00 - 09], [F10 - F19], [F20 - F29], [F30 - F39], [F40 - 48], [F50 - F59] and [F60 - F69]. The mean age of the patients was 37 years, with a standard deviation of 13 and extremes from 16 to 74 years. Most patients were unmarried (56%). Among the married patients, the monogamous regime was in the majority in our study: 56% compared with 44% for the polygamous regime. Women had to attend French school in 74% of cases. In our study, 32% of patients had reached university level. The majority were unemployed (67%). The notion of mourning was found in 214 patients (30.2%). The birth of one or more children marked the lives of 184 patients (26%). Divorce was noted in 103 patients (14.5%). Marital conflicts were experienced by 94 patients (13.3%). Twenty percent of the patients had used psychoactive substances. Conclusion: The epidemiological profile of a woman with a mental disorder in Dakar is that of a single woman in her forties who had attended university and was a housewife. She does not use psychoactive substances and has experienced at least one mourning in her life. 展开更多

Introduction: In Senegal, knowledge of the clinical profile of mental disorders in women has not been the subject of many studies, even though it is of vital importance to those involved in mental health. Thus, the aim of our study was to describe the clinical aspects of psychiatric disorders in women hospitalized at Fann. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, retrospective, and descriptive study over a five-year period. We identified 402 cases that met the selection criteria. The data collection form provided information on aspects of the clinical profile of mental disorders, such as medical, surgical, gynecological, obstetrical and psychiatric history, instigator of the request for care, diagnosis, duration and number of hospitalizations. ICD-10 was used for the various pathologies identified. Results: Asthma was noted in 7% of patients, as was hypertension. Gynecological surgery was found in 43 patients (11%). Eight patients were menopausal (2%). The mean number of gestations was 2.09, with a standard deviation of 2.257 and extremes between 0 and 10 gestations. Patients with a history of abortion numbered 58 (14%). The decision to hospitalize the patients was made by 96% (384 patients) of those around them. Hetero aggression was the most recurrent reason for hospitalization (19%). Pathology group F20-29 (schizophrenia, schizotypal disorder, and delusional disorders) was the majority group. Conclusion: The clinical profile of the mentally ill woman in Dakar is a woman in her mid-forties who most often presents with a personal psychiatric history, and her hospitalization is prompted by hetero-aggression and/or logorrhea. She usually suffers from schizophrenia and related disorders. Hospitalization usually lasts between 11 and 20 days. 展开更多
