It is found that some interm... YAG: Ce^3 + phosphor particles were prepared using polyacrylamide gel method. The structure evolution of powders during annealing process was followed by X-ray diffraction determination. It is found that some intermediate phases, including θ-Al2O3, YAM and YAP, are formed when calcining polyacrylamide gel, however, the pure YAG phase can be formed directly when calcining polyacrylamide gel with α-Al2O3 as seed crystal. These facts show that the existence of α- Al2O3 seed crystal can block the formation of θ-Al2O3, YAM and YAP, and accelerate its reaction with Y2O3 to form YAG phase directly at lower temperature. The emission peak of prepared YAG : Ce^3 + phosphor is wide with maximum at 550 nm and the exitation band has two peaks, the major one is around at 460 nm, which matches the blue emission of GaN LED and is suitable for the assemble of white LED. Some fluxes can enhance the photoluminescence intensity of phosphor particles, that can be attributed both to the improvement of crystallization processes of YAG and to the stabilization of trivalence cerium ion in YAG:Ce^3 +. 展开更多

This paper reports that the ultraviolet and visible upconversion luminescence from the ^4S3/2, ^2G9/2 and ^2P3/2 levels have been observed in Er^3+:YAG following 647.2 nm excitation of the ^4F9/2 multiple. Upconversion luminescence intensity dependence on pump power was recorded. The measured decay profiles were theoretically fitted by kinetics theory and the basically good agreements were achieved. The results indicate that some energy transfer processes proposed to explain the observed upconversion phenomena are reasonable. 展开更多

Absorption spectra were measured and energy levels were assigned. According to Judd-Ofelt theory, the spectral strength parameters of Er^3+ ion were fitted to beΩ2 =0.3926 x 10^-20 cm^2, Ω4 =0.0721×10^-20 cm^2, Ω6 =0.0028 ×10.20 cm^2. Emission peaks centered at around 523,544 and 670 nm were observed under 334 nm He-Cd laser excitation and emission peaks centered at 1001 and 1534 nm were detected under 976 nm laser excitation. Strong green emission was also observed when the crystal was pumped with 808 nm and 976 nm laser. The mechanisms of frequency upconversion and sensitization were analyzed. 展开更多

Based on the Judd-Ofelt theory, the spectral parameters were obtained: the intensity parameters Wl of Tm3+ in Tm/Er:YVO4 crystal: W2 = 10.69×10-20, W4 = 0.604×10-20, W6 = 2.05×10-20 cm2 for the (100) face and W2 = 10.43×10-20, W4 = 0.13×10-20, W6 = 1.83×10-20 cm2 for the (001) face. Based on these values, the oscillator strength, radioactive lifetime and fluorescence branch ratio were calculated for Tm3+ in Tm/Er:YVO4 crystal. 展开更多

The violet and green fluorescence spectra and the kinetics of fluorescence decay in Er^3+ :YAG crystal under 408.6 nm excitation were investigated by the time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence technique. The influence of multiphonon and energy transfer on the fluorescence decay of the ^4S3/2 rnultiplet were theoretically analyzed. A good agreement of the measured and the simulated decay curves was achieved. The continuous profile variety of the decay curves in the region from 548 to 561.2 nrn is found and it originates from the fluorescence overlap of ^2G9/2 and ^4S3/2 and the intensity ratio dominates the profile. 展开更多

High index of refraction via quantum interference in a three-level system of Er^3+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet crystal

A simple three-level system is proposed to produce high index of refraction with zero absorption in an Er^3+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal, which is achieved for a probe field between the excited state 4I13/2 and ground state 4I15/2 by adjusting a strong coherent driving field between the upper excited state 4I11/2 and 4I15/2. It is found that the changes of the frequency of the coherent driving field and the concentration of Er^3+ ions in the YAG crystal can maximize the index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption. This result could be useful for the dispersion compensation in fibre communication, laser particle acceleration, high precision magnetometry and so on. 展开更多

Na_(5)Y_(9)F_(32) single crystals doped with ~0.8-mol% Ho^(3+),~1-mol% Tm^(3+),and various Er^(3+) ion concentrations were prepared by a modified Bridgman method.The effects of Er^(3+)ion concentration on 2.0-μm emission excited by an800-nm laser diode were investigated with the help of their spectroscopic properties.The intensity of 2.0-μm emission reached to maximum when the Er^(3+) ion concentration was ~1 mol%.The energy transfer mechanisms between Er^(3+),Ho^(3+),and Tm^(3+) ions were identified from the change of the absorption spectra,the emission spectra,and the measured decay curves.The maximum 2.0-μm emission cross section of the Er^(3+)/Ho^(3+)/Tm^(3+)tri-doped Na_(5)Y_(9)F_(32) single crystal reached 5.26 × 10^(-21) cm^(2).The gain cross section spectra were calculated according to the absorption and emission cross section spectra.The cross section for ~2.0-μm emission became a positive gain once the inversion level of population was reached 30%.The energy transfer efficiency was further increased by 11.81% through the incorporation of Er^(3+) ion into Ho^(3+)/Tm^(3+) system estimated from the measured lifetimes of Ho^(3+)/Tm^(3+)-and Er^(3+)/Ho^(3+)/Tm^(3+)-doped Na_(5)Y_(9)F_(32)single crystals.The present results illustrated that the Er^(3+)/Ho^(3+)/Tm^(3+)tri-doped Na_(5)Y_(9)F_(32) single crystals can be used as promising candidate for 2.0-μm laser. 展开更多
