Sublimation for Yeats is essentially the transmutation and elevation of bitterness and tragic facts of being into happiness, into tranquility of mind, then into the emotionless emotion, as Yeats names it as "innocence". The process of sublimation enriches the creativity of Yeats as artist when he is confronted with severity of aging spiritually and physically.展开更多

Mtiller's theory of myth, this paper will analyze the deconstruction and revision of myths in The Green Helmet. Irish mythology, as described by M^iller, has in its inheritance a myth of Ireland being personified in an image of a woman, a goddess of the land. This Ireland-as-woman image, as well as Irish heroism and their fighting spirit will be investigated in Yeats' drama to show its simplification and to mock its nature. The analysis will also give an insight into the diversified and complex image of the Irish nation.展开更多

The question whether Yeats is the "last romantic" or the first Modernist remains controversial for a long time in academic field. Whether critics term Yeats a modernist or not, they generally agree that the poems produced in his late creative period are definitively modernist works. This paper targets Yeats's realization of poetic modernization through his mask theory applied in "Crazy Jane" poems. It discusses the poetic movement in the beginning of the 20th century, the poetic theory Yeats proposed and instances Yeats's mask theory as the manifestation of his poetic modernization. The author argues that with his innovation in verse writing particularly demonstrated by application of mask theory in "Crazy Jane" poems, Yeats unquestionably played a very important role in Anglo-American modernist poetry.展开更多

Yeats' s poems are inspired and influenced by Maud Gonne, as his love of the life, whose images have been changing from hi"sRose"with beauty and untouchability to"Helen"with destructive power and"Phoenix"with spiritual eternity during different Irish historical and social backgrounds. By analyzing three selected poems, this paper reveals that Yeats' s creating of the images of Maud Gonne is not single but multiple, which are not only concerned with the eulogy of her beauty but also her powerful mind and faithful dedication towards Irish national independence and liberation.展开更多
