Impact of training specificity on exercise-induced cardiac troponin elevation in professional athletes: A pilot study

BACKGROUND Release of cardiac biomarkers is common after strenuous endurance exercise,but data on intermittent exercise are scarce.It has not been investigated whether cardiac troponin elevation is influenced depending on the type of exercise that an athlete is adapted to perform.We hypothesized that intermittent but not continuous exercise induces cardiac troponin elevation in professional athletes adapted to high-intensity intermittent exercise.AIM To examine how training specificity impacts high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T(hs-cTnT)release.METHODS Nine professional floorball players participated in the study,which comprised two different exercise tests:a continuous incremental cycle ergometer test and a Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery 2(Yo-Yo IR2)test.Serial assessment of hs-cTnT was performed after the cycle ergometer test and the Yo-Yo IR2 test(baseline,0,2,6,and 24 h).RESULTS No hs-cTnT elevation above the myocardial damage cutoff(≥14 ng/L)was shown after the cycle ergometer test,whereas hs-cTnT levels rose over the cutoff in three of nine participants after the Yo-Yo IR2 test.The hs-cTnT levels peaked at 6 h after both tests,but were significantly higher after the Yo-Yo IR2 test compared to the cycle ergometer test(median hs-cTnT concentration 10.6 ng/L vs 7.8 ng/L,P=0.038).All levels returned to baseline within 24 h.CONCLUSION In professional athletes adapted to high-intensity intermittent exercise,hs-cTnT was significantly elevated after intermittent but not continuous exercise.This principle of specificity training should be considered when designing future studies to avoid misinterpretation of hs-cTnT elevation. 展开更多

Effect of Low-Dose Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation on Intermittent Endurance Performance

In this study, we investigated the effect of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) supplementation at a dose of 0.2 g&middot;kg&minus;1 40 min before an exercise on intermittent endurance performance and gastrointestinal distress. The participants were six healthy male students of a university. The Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test level 2 (Yo-Yo IR2) was used for the evaluation of intermittent endurance. The participants ingested water (Cont) or NaHCO3 independently at three timings. After drinking water, the Yo-Yo IR1 was performed for 2 min as warm-up. After resting for 5 min, the Yo-Yo IR2 was initiated. The measurement items were exercise distance, nutrition intake, biochemical test results, and blood gas analysis findings. The participants who ingested NaHCO3 had a 14% extended distance than those who ingested Cont, and 2/3 of those who took NaHCO3 showed a better motor performance. No significant difference was observed between the participants who took Cont and NaHCO3 in terms of pH level at baseline, and the NaHCO3 level was significantly higher during pre- and post-exercise (p 3 in terms of bicarbonate ion level at baseline, and the NaHCO3 level was significantly higher during pre- and post-exercise (p 3 at a low dose (0.2 g&middot;kg&minus;1), their exercise ability during an intermittent endurance test has improved. 目的:评价逍遥散对2型糖尿病兼抑郁症模型大鼠的作用效果。方法:采用高脂饲料喂养加腹腔注射小剂量链脲佐菌素(STZ)的方法制备2型糖尿病模型,在其基础上用21d慢性束缚的方法建立2型糖尿病兼抑郁症大鼠模型。将Wistar大鼠随机分为5组,每... 目的:评价逍遥散对2型糖尿病兼抑郁症模型大鼠的作用效果。方法:采用高脂饲料喂养加腹腔注射小剂量链脲佐菌素(STZ)的方法制备2型糖尿病模型,在其基础上用21d慢性束缚的方法建立2型糖尿病兼抑郁症大鼠模型。将Wistar大鼠随机分为5组,每组8只:正常组(N组),2型糖尿病组(T组),2型糖尿病兼抑郁症组(T+D组),氟西汀组(F组),逍遥散组(XYS组)。在慢性束缚的21d,从大鼠的宏观表征、体质量、空腹血糖、血清胰岛素及HOMA-IR指数、血脂、旷场行为学实验,评价逍遥散对2型糖尿病兼抑郁症大鼠的作用效果。结果:逍遥散可以增加模型大鼠的体质量,改善大鼠的行为学,降低血脂,通过改善抑郁症状从而降低血糖,改善大鼠胰岛素抵抗。结论:逍遥散对模型大鼠有较好的作用效果,适用于后续研究。 展开更多
