Specimens of bending cylinder under gravity are used to avoid contact problem between testing device and sample, and a beam model is presented for evaluating the curvatures of gel beams with large elastic deformation. A self-adaptive algorithm is also proposed to search for the best estimation of gels' elastic moduli by comparing the experimental bending curvatures with those computed from the beam model with preestimated moduli. There is even the possibility of solidification of the confined layer. To judge the stiffness of such a layer, we used the Hertz model to calculate the Young's modulus of the polymer layer in the confinement of AFM experiments with silicon nitride tip with a radius of curvature ofR ≈ 50 nm and a glass sphere attached to the cantilever R =5 μm. Since there is no visible indentation of the layer in the AFM experiments, the layer is either penetrated very easily, or the indentation is too small to be seen in a force curve. The latter would be the case for a polymer layer with a Young's modulus above 4 × 10^8 Pa in case of an experiment with a silicon nitride tip and 4×10^5 Pa in case of a glass sphere.展开更多

However, few studies have been conducted on this aspect. One of the most used properties to describe the impact of aggregate on the adhesiveness phenomena is the zeta potential. In this study, the first mineralogical and chemical properties were considered through the percentage of silica in the rock source of aggregates and the electric aggregate particles charge zeta. Dynamic modulus values used for regression process are determined from complex modulus test on nine asphalt concretes mix designed with aggregate types (basalt of Diack, quartzite of Bakel and Limestone of Bandia). The results showed that aggregate with high percentage of silica have higher zeta potential than aggregate with low percentage of silica. The development of a zeta potential predictive model showed a strong sensitivity to silica. The results of the complex modulus tests showed that Hot Mixture Asphalt (HMA) mixed with aggregate containing high silica contents gave better results than those mixed with aggregates containing low percentage of silica. The dynamic modulus predictive models of HMA developed shows that it is the properties of bitumen that influence more. However, the effect of silica although low, is very marked at low temperatures and high frequencies.展开更多

In the present research, the effects of pores and cracks on the Young’s modulus of a defective solid are studied. Based on the law of the conservation of energy, mathematical formulations are proposed to indicate how the shape, size, and distribution of defects affect the effective Young’s modulus. In this approach, detailed equations are illustrated to represent the shape and size of defects on the effective Young’s modulus. Different from the results obtained from the traditional empirical analyses, mixture law or statistical method, for the first time, our results from the finite element method (FEM) and strict analytical calculation show that the influence of pore radius and crack length on the effective Young’s modulus can be quantified. It is found that the longest crack in a typical microstructure of ceramic coating dominates the contribution of the effective Young’s modulus in the vertical direction of the crack.展开更多

The modulus and the number average diameter of mica aggregates in matrix were determined with tensile testing and image analysis respectively. The interface structure of the filler/matrix and the bulk structure of matrix were examined through the dielectric spectrometry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic viscoelastic spectrometry. The results show that the Young's modulus of the filial polyethylene depends to a great extent upon the state of dispersion of filler in matrix, but it is independent of the interface structure and bulk structure. The better the dispersion, the higher the Young's modulus.展开更多

In the Congo, stroke is the leading cause of mortality and the leading cardiovascular emergency, with a hospital frequency of between 49.74% and 56.2%. The aim of the study was to identify the mortality factors associated with stroke in young people in Brazzaville. Patients and Methods: This is a longitudinal analytical study conducted from February to period from February to September 2019 in the neurology, general intensive care and medical emergency departments of the Brazzaville University Hospital (CHUB). All subjects aged 18 - 55 years of completed age, admitted for arterial stroke confirmed by brain imaging, were included. Study variables were: age, gender, socioeconomic level, laterality, time to admission and CT scan, vascular risk factors, history of cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, TIA (transient ischemic attack) or stroke, NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) score, Glasgow score, blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, occurrence or non-occurrence of complications, blood glucose, creatinine, lipid profile and blood count. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 software. Descriptive analyses were performed using SPSS 21 software. Results: 103 patients were included in the study, of whom 45 (43.7%) had ischemic stroke and 58 (56.3%) with hemorrhagic stroke. Mortality was high at 29.1% in our study, and mainly concerned hemorrhagic strokes (73.7%). Two-week mortality in our study accounted for 63.33% of total lethality. After simple logistic regression, the factors associated with death within two weeks were age between 40 - 44 years (OR (odds ratio) = 2.95;p = 0.01), hemorrhagic stroke (OR = 1.41;p = 0.07), mass effect (OR = 3.26;p < 0.01), ventricular flooding (OR = 2.86;p < 0.001), Glasgow score (OR = 2.95 (0.92 - 9.43);p = 0.06), NIHSS score on admission > 15 (OR = 5.89 (2.90 - 11.95);p < 0.001) and bronchopulmonary infection (OR = 30, 95 (4.04 - 236.88), p < 0.001). From multivariate logistic regression, only NIHSS score on admission > 15 emerged as a predictor of death within two weeks (OR = 5.89 (2.90 - 11.95);p Conclusion: This study confirms the basic data of the African literature concerning stroke, as several factors were identified as independent factors associated with mortality.展开更多

文摘Integrated computational materials engineering(ICME)is to integrate multi-scale computational simulations and key experimental methods such as macroscopic, mesoscopic, and microscopic into the whole process of Al alloys design and development, which enables the design and development of Al alloys to upgrade from traditional empirical to the integration of compositionprocess-structure-mechanical property, thus greatly accelerating its development speed and reducing its development cost. This study combines calculation of phase diagram(CALPHAD),Finite element calculations, first principle calculations, and microstructure characterization methods to predict and regulate the formation and structure of composite precipitates from the design of highmodulus Al alloy compositions and optimize the casting process parameters to inhibit the formation of micropore defects in the casting process, and the final tensile strength of Al alloys reaches420 MPa and Young's modulus reaches more than 88 GPa,which achieves the design goal of the high strength and modulus Al alloys, and establishes a new mode of the design and development of the strength/modulus Al alloys.
文摘The mineralogical composition of an aggregate influences its adhesion with bitumen and therefore its dynamic modulus. However, the effect of silica although low, is very marked at low temperatures and high frequencies.

文摘In nature, there are widely distributed bi-modulus materials with different deformation characteristics under compressive and tensile stress states, such as concrete, rock and ceramics.Due to the lack of constitutive model that could reasonably consider the bi-modulus property of materials, and the lack of simple and reliable measurement methods for the tensile elastic parameters of materials, scientists and engineers always neglect the effect of the bi-modulus property of materials in engineering design and numerical simulation. To solve this problem, this study utilizes the uncoupled strain-driven constitutive model proposed by Latorre and Montáns(2020)to systematically study the distributions and magnitudes of stresses and strains of bi-modulus materials in the three-point bending test through the numerical method.Furthermore,a new method to synchronously measure the tensile and compressive elastic moduli of materials through the four-point bending test is proposed. The numerical results show that the bi-modulus property of materials has a significant effect on the stress, strain and displacement in the specimen utilized in the three-point and four-point bending tests.Meanwhile, the results from the numerical tests,in which the elastic constitutive model proposed by Latorre and Montáns(2020)is utilized, also indicate that the newly proposed measurement method has a good reliability.Although the new measurement method proposed in this study can synchronously and effectively measure the tensile and compressive elastic moduli,it cannot measure the tensile and compressive Poisson’s ratios.

文摘It is difficult to establish structure-property relationships in a defective solid because of its inhomogeneous-geometry microstructure caused by defects. It is found that the longest crack in a typical microstructure of ceramic coating dominates the contribution of the effective Young’s modulus in the vertical direction of the crack.

文摘Three-dimensional(3D)bioprinting has been used widely for the construction of hard tissues such as bone and cartilage. However, constructing soft tissues with complex structures remains a challenge. In this study, complex structures characterized by both tunable elastic modulus and porosity were printed using freeform reversible embedding of suspended hydrogels(FRESHs)printing methods.A mixture of alginate and gelatin was used as the main functional component of the bioink.Rheological analysis showed that this bioink possesses shear thinning and shear recovery properties, supporting both cryogenic and FRESH printing methods.Potential printing capabilities and limitations of cryogenic and FRESH printing were then analyzed by printability tests.A series of complex structures were printed by FRESH printing methods which could not be realized using conventional approaches.Mechanical tests and scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the printed structure is of excellent flexibility and could be applied in various conditions by adjusting its mechanical modulus and porosity.L929 fibroblast cells maintained cell viability in cell-laden-printed structures, and the addition of collagen further improved the hydrogels’biocompatibility.Overall, all results provided useful insight into the building of human soft tissue organ blocks.

文摘The correlation between Young's modulus of mica-filled high density polyethylene (HDPE), low density polyethylene(LDPE) and the state of dispersion of plasma-treated mica in the polymer matrices was studied. The better the dispersion, the higher the Young's modulus.
文摘Introduction: Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) are an absolute neurovascular emergency and the main cause of mortality and acquired disability in adults. From multivariate logistic regression, only NIHSS score on admission > 15 emerged as a predictor of death within two weeks (OR = 5.89 (2.90 - 11.95);p Conclusion: This study confirms the basic data of the African literature concerning stroke, as several factors were identified as independent factors associated with mortality.
