ZODIAC was a randomized, open-label, one-year, large simple trial (LST) that enrolled 18,239 individuals with schizophrenia. Methods: Subjects were randomized to open-label treatment with ziprasidone (n = 9120) or olanzapine (n = 9119) in naturalistic (usual care) settings and followed for one year. Study sites (n = 749) applied minimal selection criteria in an attempt to make the study population as representative as possible of those receiving treatment in “real world” circumstances across the countries. Results: Mean patient age was 41 years, 55% were male, 34% were markedly ill or presented with more severe disease, and 66% of subjects had one or more select comorbid conditions [i.e. heart attack, stroke, hypertension, CAD/angina, high cholesterol/triglycerides, diabetes, or overweight (BMI ≥ 25)] at baseline. History of suicide attempt was greatest in the US (38%), compared with Sweden (34%), Brazil/South America (26%), Asia (23%), and Eastern Europe (20%). Overweight or obesity was the most prevalent comorbid risk factor, representing 60% of enrolled subjects, 70% of US subjects compared with 30% in Asia and 52% - 64% in the other regions studied. High cholesterol/triglycerides levels were found in 23% of US subjects compared with a relatively low prevalence in other countries (3% - 11%). History of cardiovascular or diabetes-related comorbidities was found in 31% of subjects. Current smoking (46.5%) and past smoking (11.8%) were common with men dominating the proportion of current smokers: US (61%);Asia (60%);Sweden (50%);Eastern Europe (49%);and Latin America (44%). Conclusions: Our findings indicate substantial baseline variations across countries in demographics, comorbid conditions, and psychiatric disease history. These data provide an international epidemiologic picture of schizophrenia and may help guide future research and treatment initiatives.展开更多

This Italian Romanesque cathedral was dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata or Saint Mary of The Annunciation. In the interior, the floor design in the shape of a tree contains an elaborate biblical program. The encyclopedic narrative of the mosaic symbolically unveils the meaning of the Tree of Life. The ieonography of the pavement's program combines biblical and pagan narratives evolving from a natural realm into a heavenly realm. The natural realm begins at the church's entrance with the symbolism of the earth-the roots of a tree-expanding through the nave and transept via the tree's trunk and its branches, culminating in the apse, at the end of the church, with the foliage oftbe top of the tree. This natural realm meets with the heavenly realm in two ways: at the crossing of the church or at the sacrificial altar, and at the apse of the church. Before reaching the altar or holy area, between the natural realm and the heavenly realm, the zodiac signs with the labors of the months are depicted.展开更多

Haleakala, Hawaii. The resulting two dimensional map of the ZL brightness covers the sky over 40°≤λ-λ ⊙≤320° and -40°≤β≤40° and its angular resolution 2°×2°is fine enough to reveal optical counterparts of the structures in the zodiacal emission first found from the IRAS space observations.展开更多

These characters, like Yingying, are endowed with special meanings with the zodiac culture, so it would not be easy to understand clearly without analyzing the impact of zodiac in The Joy Luck Club. So The purpose is trying to find out what are the impacts of the zodiac culture on one of the mother figure, Yingying, by using the relevant data and information from zodiac experts to evaluate the zodiac Tiger of Yingying from two sides, which includes"gold"and"black", then wecan conclude more profound understandings about other Chinese American literary works connected with Chinese zodiac culture.展开更多
