Of Studies is an important one in The Essays of Francis Bacon, of which words are concise and refining, reasoning is profound and logic. Wang Zuoliang's translated version is so efficient and smooth with classical Chinese style that it perfectly reveals the original text, turning out to be the best version among all the translation of Of Studies. This thesis compares Of Studies and Wang Zuoliang's translated version to analyze their linguistic feature in terms of diction, sentence and figures of speech.

A Contrastive Study of Reiteration between Chinese and English and its Implications on Translation Practice

Through conducting comparisons in the occurrence and frequency of reiteration between Chinese and English,this paper tries to find out the laws underlying the discrepancies and thus provides implications for translation practice.Contrastive study of reiteration between Chinese and English provides us with insightful implications for translation practice.With the abundant analysis and research in this essay,I hope that the study of Reiteration can be emphasized.

A Contrastive Study on the C-E Translation of the Verb of Perception zhijian from the Perspective of Subjective Consciousness and Objective Consciousness

Verbs of perception include sight,hearing,smell,taste and touch,of which zhijian belongs to sight is very common in literary works,and its semantic meaning also begins to change with the development of time.Based on the original text and two translated versions of the Water Margin,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the translation strategies of zhijian on the basis that Chinese emphasizes subjective consciousness and the mixed consciousness of subjectivity and objectivity,while English stresses objective consciousness with a clear boundary between subjectivity and objectivity.According to previous studies,this paper regroups the appearance of zhijian and divides it into two categories,namely zhijian at the beginning of a sentence and at the beginning of a minor sentence.On the basis of the context and the changing function of zhijian,that is,the function of being a verb and being a discourse marker,it can be concluded that as the meaning of a verb,the real action,the meaning of zhijian is expressed by“seeing”,so translators usually adopt literal translation;while as a discourse marker,it is no longer the main component of sentence structure,but to highlight the following information,translators will adopt deletion,conversion and retaining.It can be seen that translators often need to convert Chinese characterized by subjective consciousness into English dominated by objective consciousness,thus conforming to various meaning of zhijian.

The Harmony of Eco-translation in Chinese Version of“Of Studies”

A study on Eco-translatology starting at the beginning of the 2000 s aims at studying the harmony and unity between a translator and eco-translation. It requires translators to acclimatize themselves to translating ecosystem so that their translation as adaptation and selection may follow the dynamic variation of eco-translatology, which is the prerequisite for the balance between the original text and the version, the translator and the writer, the translator and readers, the culture of the original language and the target language. This paper shows the harmony of eco-translation by analyzing Wang Zuoliang's translation of Of Studies in light of eco-translatology.

In the article,Corpus Linguistics for Translation and Contrastive Studies:A Guide for Research is reviewed.Overall,the book can act as a handy guide to the field of corpus-based contrastive and translation studies for researchers,particularly beginning ones.It informs readers of parallel corpus building and using such a corpus for various research purposes with different software,etc.However,the book can be improved,apart from some minor errors,by covering studies on parallel corpora involving language pairs other than European ones,those on interpretation corpora,and so on.

Feng Chen's work on translational and clinical imaging

Dr. Feng Chen is a chief medical doctor and the vice chairman of the Department of Radiology in Zhong Da Hospital at Southeast University, Nanjing, China and a senior researcher in the Department of Radiology at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. His main areas of interest are translational imaging research including stroke, tumor angiogenesis, assessment of therapeutic response in solid tumors, and magnetic resonance contrast media. Dr. Feng Chen has published 44 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals. He and his colleagues have developed an imaging platform which includes animal models, animal preparations and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocols for translational animal imaging research using clinical machines. His MRI findings on rodent stroke are considered to "serve as a model for future laboratory investigations of treatment of acutestroke and unify the approaches developed for clinical studies". He and his colleagues have introduced a novel liver tumor model in rodents, in which a series of studies concerning the antitumor activity of vascular disrupting agents have been successively conducted and assessed by in vivo MRI, especially by diffusion weighted imaging as an imaging biomarker. His goal is to provide valuable references for clinical practice and to contribute to the translation of animal imaging research into patient applications.

《论语》英译文语篇的情态责任对比研究——以Arthur Waley、刘殿爵英译本为例

《论语》作为儒家思想的经典巨著,蕴含了丰富的中国传统文化,典籍译文的情态系统翻译直接关涉到译本质量。文章通过语料库工具Power Conc进行检索,从系统功能语言学角度对比了Arthur Waley和刘殿爵的《论语》英译文语篇中实现情态责任赋值的语言表达方式。研究发现,Waley多使用情态附加语、表心理过程的动词和否定形式表达情态责任,刘殿爵则多运用中心词为形容词的谓语扩展式、被动句和"there be"结构,Waley译本总体情态责任值高,刘译本则反向显示为偏向低情态责任。显著异质性的情态责任资源与译者再现《论语》人际功能的态度倾向密切相关。

再释“在所”

汉译佛经中,经常见到“在所V”和“在所N”两种结构。“在所V”应分析为“在/所V”,可理解为“想要怎么样就怎么样”,“在”表“任凭”,是“自在”的省缩;“在所N”应分析为“在所/N”,可理解为“任何N”,N一般为表方所的名词。“在所”的成词是在“在所V处”这一结构中完成的:汉语的“在所V处”原本是介词“在”与方所宾语组合,因常用来翻译梵语表方所的关系小句,获得了任指义,由于“所”字功能的变化,加之四字格和双音化影响,“在/所V处”发生了重新分析,成为“在所/V处”,“在所”就成为一个主要修饰方所成分、表任指的词。“在在”则是对原典语言仿译,“在”也是来自表方所的“在”。

从“不易”到“变译”:生态翻译学视角的《易经》英译本对比研究

从生态翻译学视角出发,对比研究汪榕培/任秀桦之《英译易经》及2014年闵福德之《智慧之书》所译《易经》在“语言维”“文化维”“交际维”上适应性选择转换程度的不同。从语言维来看,汪榕培/任秀桦译本在爻数翻译上适应性转译程度优于闵福德译本,而在词汇选择及修辞手法的还原上则逊于闵福德译本;从文化维来看,汪榕培/任秀桦译本在文化负载词“君子”上的翻译较闵福德译本更灵活;从交际维来看,《智慧之书》整体上的选择转换程度远超汪榕培/任秀桦译本。

翻译写作学视域下政治文献中国特色词汇英译探析——以《习近平谈治国理政》英文版为例

汉英两种语言的巨大差异,加上不同的社会文化背景,使得如何正确英译政治文献中的中国特色词汇成为无法避免的难题之一。以“直译与意译”“异化与归化”为代表的翻译方法与策略未能在翻译实践中将语言层面的操作与文化层面的取向统一起来。翻译写作学将翻译原则与方法进行梳理,提出“直译、意译、归译”三分法,并修正长期以来对“意译”的误解,将翻译中语言与文化的操作进行统一,既简化了翻译原则,又为同一原文衍生出多种不同译文提供了合理解释的依据,有助于更好地理解翻译效果,从而采用合适的翻译策略。

基于语料库的《论语》两个英译本的翻译风格研究

本研究基于自建《论语》英译语料库,使用语料库检索工具Word Smith将《论语》的理雅各和辜鸿铭英译本在词汇、句子和语篇三个层面的基本特征进行数据统计和对比分析,考察两个译本的翻译风格异同。通过多层面对比分析,发现两个译本行文都很地道流畅、语篇连贯、阅读难度不高、译语明晰化和简化特征明显。相较而言,理雅各译本用词更为灵活丰富,句子更加简洁流畅,篇幅较短,语体更加正式,可读性更高。

基于知网与万方数据库的中国莎士比亚研究

莎士比亚研究在中国已历经170年,中国学者从多视角对其进行相关研究,研究成果卓著,促进了中国莎士比亚研究乃至世界莎士比亚研究的蓬勃发展,正在逐渐形成中国的莎学研究特色。但依据中国目前两大数据库(即知网与万方数据库)有关查询结果来看,在研究模式、译本出版研究与译本修订、版本及注释本研究、译本研究、莎剧演出研究上依然存在一些不足,需要在研究中引起学者的关注。

中西翻译观对比研究

词汇化拟人和修辞性拟人——英汉拟人法使用对比研究

拟人可以分为两类:词汇化拟人和修辞性拟人。英汉语法特征与语言心理的差异导致了两种语言词汇化拟人功能的差异:英语动词系统中拟人表现法词化程度高,而汉语指称系统中拟人表现法词化程度高。就词汇化拟人而言,英汉语是不完全对应的。至于修辞性拟人,英汉语则具有共性。汉译英中拟人的转换,要根据语言的习惯,并不一定是从拟人向非拟人的转换。

回译与翻译研究、英汉对比研究之间的关系

本文根据关联理论回译观讨论了回译与翻译研究、英汉对比研究之间的关系,提出回译研究必须以承认回译和翻译一样是一种交际为前提,但回译实质是一种复制原交际的交际行为。回译者和译者一样同样受到了一定时间和空间等多种因素制约,而传统上为了比较两种语言结构差异的回译,则只能是一种新的翻译交际行为。为此,在利用回译进行相关领域的研究时,不仅要认真审视译文和回译文,还必须认真审视译者和回译者,这样才能真正认识到回译在相关领域中的价值和作用。
