Synchrotron-like (betatron) radiation occurs in the process of direct laser acceleration (DLA) of electrons in a relativisticlaser channel when the electrons undergo transverse betatron oscillations in self-generated quasi-static electric and magnetic fields. In anexperiment at the PHELIX laser system, high-current directed beams of DLA electrons with a mean energy ten times higher than the ponderomotive potential and maximum energy up to 100 MeV were measured at 10^(19) W/cm^(2)laser intensity. The spectrum of directed x-raysin the range of 5–60 keV was evaluated using two sets of Ross filters placed at 0°and 10°to the laser pulse propagation axis. The differential x-ray absorption method allowed for absolute measurements of the angular-dependent photon fluence. We report 10^(13) photons/sr withenergies >5 keV measured at 0°to the laser axis and a brilliance of 10^(21) photons s^(−1) mm^(−2) mrad−2(0.1%BW)−1. The angular distributionof the emission has an FWHM of 14°–16°. Thanks to the ultra-high photon fluence, point-like radiation source, and ultra-short emissiontime, DLA-based keV backlighters are promising for various applications in high-energy-density research with kilojoule petawatt-class laserfacilities.展开更多

文摘In this study, the characteristics of heat transfer on an unsteady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)Casson nanofluid over an exponentially accelerated vertical porous plate with rotating effects were investigated. The flow was driven by the combined effects of the magnetic field, heat radiation, heat source/sink and chemical reaction.Copper oxide(CuO)and titanium oxide(TiO2)are acknowledged as nanoparticle materials. The nondimensional governing equations were subjected to the Laplace transformation technique to derive closed-form solutions.Graphical representations are provided to analyze how changes in physical parameters, such as the magnetic field, heat radiation, heat source/sink and chemical reaction, affect the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles. The computed values of skin friction, heat and mass transfer rates at the surface were tabulated for various sets of input parameters. It is perceived that there is a drop in temperature due to the rise in the heat source/sink and the Prandtl number. It should be noted that a boost in the thermal radiation parameter prompts an increase in temperature. An increase in the Prandtl number, heat source/sink parameter, time and a decrease in the thermal radiation parameter result in an increase in theNusselt number. The computed values of the skin friction, heat andmass transfer rates at the surface were tabulated for various values of the flow parameters. The present results were compared with those of previously published studies andwere found to be in excellent agreement. This research has practical applications in areas such as drug delivery, thermal medicine and cancer treatment.

文摘Directed x-rays produced in the interaction of sub-picosecond laser pulses of moderate relativistic intensity with plasma of near-critical density are investigated. Thanks to the ultra-high photon fluence, point-like radiation source, and ultra-short emissiontime, DLA-based keV backlighters are promising for various applications in high-energy-density research with kilojoule petawatt-class laserfacilities.

文摘We have recently proposed a new technique of plasma tailoring by laser-driven hydrodynamic shockwaves generated on both sides of a gas jet[Marquès et al.,Phys.Plasmas 28,023103(2021)].In a continuation of this numerical work,we study experimentally the influence of the tailoring on proton acceleration driven by a high-intensity picosecond laser in three cases:without tailoring,by tailoring only the entrance side of the picosecond laser, and by tailoring both sides of the gas jet.Without tailoring, the acceleration is transverse to the laser axis, with a low-energy exponential spectrum, produced by Coulomb explosion. When the front side of the gas jet is tailored,a forward acceleration appears, which is significantly enhanced when both the front and back sides of the plasma are tailored. This forward acceleration produces higher-energy protons, with a peaked spectrum, and is in good agreement with the mechanism of collisionless shock acceleration(CSA).The spatiotemporal evolution of the plasma profile is characterized by optical shadowgraphy of a probe beam. The refraction and absorption of this beam are simulated by post-processing 3D hydrodynamic simulations of the plasma tailoring.Comparison with the experimental results allows estimation of the thickness and near-critical density of the plasma slab produced by tailoring both sides of the gas jet. These parameters are in good agreement with those required for CSA.

文摘The influence of the longitudinal acceleration and the angular acceleration of detecting target based on vortex electromagnetic waves in keyhole space are analyzed. The spectrum spreads of different orbital angular momentum(OAM)modes in different non-line-of-sight situations are simulated. The errors of target accelerations in detection are calculated and compared based on the OAM spectra spreading by using two combinations of composite OAM modes in the keyhole space.According to the research, the effects about spectrum spreads of higher OAM modes are more obvious. The error in detection is mainly affected by OAM spectrum spreading, which can be reduced by reasonably using different combinations of OAM modes in different practical situations. The above results provide a reference idea for investigating keyhole effect when vortex electromagnetic wave is used to detect accelerations.

文摘Risk assessment is a crucial component of collision warning and avoidance systems for intelligent vehicles.Reachability-based formal approaches have been developed to ensure driving safety to accurately detect potential vehicle collisions. However, they suffer from over-conservatism,potentially resulting in false–positive risk events in complicated real-world applications. In this paper,we combine two reachability analysis techniques,a backward reachable set(BRS)and a stochastic forward reachable set(FRS),and propose an integrated probabilistic collision–detection framework for highway driving.Within this framework,we can first use a BRS to formally check whether a two-vehicle interaction is safe;otherwise,a prediction-based stochastic FRS is employed to estimate the collision probability at each future time step. Thus, the framework can not only identify non-risky events with guaranteed safety but also provide accurate collision risk estimation in safety-critical events. To construct the stochastic FRS,we develop a neural network-based acceleration model for surrounding vehicles and further incorporate a confidence-aware dynamic belief to improve the prediction accuracy.Extensive experiments were conducted to validate the performance of the acceleration prediction model based on naturalistic highway driving data. The efficiency and effectiveness of the framework with infused confidence beliefs were tested in both naturalistic and simulated highway scenarios. The proposed risk assessment framework is promising for real-world applications.

文摘The evolution of ablative Rayleigh–Taylor instability(ARTI)induced by single-mode stationary and time-varying perturbations in heat flux is studied numerically in two dimensions.Compared with the stationary case,time-varying heat-flux perturbation mitigates ARTI growth because of the enhanced thermal smoothing induced by the wave-like traveling heat flux.A resonance is found to form when the phase velocity of the heat-flux perturbation matches the average sound speed in the ablation region. In the resonant regime, the coherent density and temperature fluctuations enhance the electron thermal conduction in the ablation region and lead to larger ablation pressure and effective acceleration, which consequently yield higher linear growth rate and saturated bubble velocity. The enhanced effective acceleration offers increased implosion velocity but can also compromise the integrity of inertial confinement fusion shells by causing faster ARTI growth.

文摘The Moon provides a unique environment for investigating nearby astrophysical events such as supernovae.Lunar samples retain valuable information from these events, via detectable long-lived“fingerprint”radionuclides such as^(60)Fe.In this work,we stepped up the development of an accelerator mass spectrometry(AMS)method for detecting^(60)Fe using the HI-13tandem accelerator at the China Institute of Atomic Energy(CIAE).Since interferences could not be sufficiently removed solely with the existing magnetic systems of the tandem accelerator and the following Q3D magnetic spectrograph,a Wien filter with a maximum voltage of±60 kV and a maximum magnetic field of 0.3 T was installed after the accelerator magnetic systems to lower the detection background for the low abundance nuclide^(60)Fe.A 1μm thick Si_(3)N_(4) foil was installed in front of the Q3D as an energy degrader. For particle detection,a multi-anode gas ionization chamber was mounted at the center of the focal plane of the spectrograph.Finally,an^(60)Fe sample with an abundance of 1.125×10^(-10)was used to test the new AMS system. These results indicate that^(60)Fe can be clearly distinguished from the isobar^(60)Ni.The sensitivity was assessed to be better than 4.3×10^(-14)based on blank sample measurements lasting 5.8 h,and the sensitivity could,in principle,be expected to be approximately 2.5×10^(-15)when the data were accumulated for 100 h,which is feasible for future lunar sample measurements because the main contaminants were sufficiently separated.

文摘We propose an efficient scheme to produce ultrahigh-brightness tens of MeV electron beams by designing a density-tailored plasma to induce a wakefield in the weakly nonlinear regime with a moderate laser energy of 120 mJ.In this scheme, the second bucket of the wakefield can have a much lower phase velocity at the steep plasma density down-ramp than the first bucket and can be exploited to implement longitudinal electron injection at a lower laser intensity, leading to the generation of bright electron beams with ultralow emittance together with low energy spread.Three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations are carried out and demonstrate that high-quality electron beams with a peak energy of 50 MeV,ultralow emittance of28 nm rad, energy spread of 1%,charge of 4.4 pC,and short duration less than 5 fs can be obtained within a 1-mm-long tailored plasma density, resulting in an ultrahigh six-dimensional brightness B6D,n of2×1017 A/m2/0.1%.By changing the density parameters, tunable bright electron beams with peak energies ranging from 5 to 70 MeV,a small emittance of B0.1 mm mrad, and a low energy spread at a few-percent level can be obtained. These bright MeV-class electron beams have a variety of potential applications, for example,as ultrafast electron probes for diffraction and imaging,in laboratory astrophysics,in coherent radiation source generation, and as injectors for GeV particle accelerators.

文摘The China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS) upgrade project(CSNS-Ⅱ) aims to enhance the beam power from 100 to 500 kW. A dual-harmonic accelerating method has been adopted to alleviate the stronger space-charge effect in rapid-cycling synchrotrons owing to the increased beam intensity. To satisfy the requirements of dual-harmonic acceleration, a new radiofrequency(RF) system based on a magnetic alloy-loaded cavity is proposed. This paper presents design considerations and experimental results regarding the performance evaluation of the proposed RF system through high-power tests and beam commissioning. The test results demonstrate that the RF system satisfies the desired specifications and affords significant benefits for CSNS-Ⅱ.

文摘The acceleration of electrons near three-dimensional(3D)magnetic nulls is crucial to the energy conversion mechanism in the 3D magnetic reconnection process. To explore electron acceleration in a 3D magnetic null topology,we constructed a pair of 3D magnetic nulls in the PKU Plasma Test(PPT)device and observed acceleration of electrons near magnetic nulls. This study measured the plasma floating potential and ion density profiles around the 3D magnetic null. The potential wells near nulls may be related to the energy variations of electrons,so we measured the electron distribution functions(EDFs)at different spatial positions. The axial variation of EDF shows that the electrons deviate from the Maxwell distribution near magnetic nulls. With scanning probes that can directionally measure and theoretically analyze based on curve fitting, the variations of EDFs are linked to the changes of plasma potential under 3D magnetic null topology. The kinetic energy of electrons accelerated by the electric field is 6 eV(v_(e)~7v_(Alfvén-e))and the scale of the region where accelerating electrons exist is in the order of serval electron skin depths.
文摘Prompt radiation emitted during accelerator operation poses a significant health risk, necessitating a thorough search and securing of hazardous areas prior to initiation.Currently, manual sweep methods are employed. However, the limitations of manual sweeps have become increasingly evident with the implementation of large-scale accelerators.By leveraging advancements in machine vision technology, the automatic identification of stranded personnel in controlled areas through camera imagery presents a viable solution for efficient search and security.Given the criticality of personal safety for stranded individuals, search and security processes must be sufficiently reliable. To ensure comprehensive coverage,180°camera groups were strategically positioned on both sides of the accelerator tunnel to eliminate blind spots within the monitoring range. The YOLOV8 network model was modified to enable the detection of small targets, such as hands and feet,as well as larger targets formed by individuals near the cameras.Furthermore, the system incorporates a pedestrian recognition model that detects human body parts, and an information fusion strategy is used to integrate the detected head, hands, and feet with the identified pedestrians as a cohesive unit. This strategy enhanced the capability of the model to identify pedestrians obstructed by equipment, resulting in a notable improvement in the recall rate.Specifically, recall rates of 0.915 and 0.82were obtained for Datasets 1 and 2,respectively.Although there was a slight decrease in accuracy,it aligned with the intended purpose of the search-and-secure software design.Experimental tests conducted within an accelerator tunnel demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach in achieving reliable recognition outcomes.

文摘Kazakhstan is currently drafting new construction regulations that comply with the major provisions of the Eurocodes.Such regulations are created on the basis of seismic zoning maps of various degrees of detail, developed by our Institute of Seismology using a new methodological approach for Kazakhstan. The article is about creating the first normative map of the Detailed Seismic Zoning on a probabilistic foundation for the Republic of Kazakhstan’s East Kazakhstan region. We carried out the probabilistic assessment of seismic hazard using a methodology consistent with the main provisions of Eurocode 8and updated compared with that used in developing maps of Kazakhstan’s General Seismic Zoning and seismic microzoning of Almaty. The most thorough and current data accessible for the area under consideration were combined with contemporary analytical techniques.Updates have been done to not only the databases being used but also the way seismic sources were shown, including active faults now.On a scale of 1:1000000,precise seismic zoning maps of the East Kazakhstan region were created for two probabilities of exceedance:10%and 2%in 50 years in terms of peak ground accelerations and macroseismic intensities. The obtained seismic hazard distribution is generally consistent with the General Seismic Zoning of Kazakhstan’s previous findings. However, because active faults were included and a thoroughly revised catalog was used, there are more pronounced zones of increased danger along the fault in the western part of the region. In the west of the territory, acceleration values also increased due to a more accurate consideration of seismotectonic conditions.Zoning maps are the basis for developing new state building regulations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

文摘Flexible damping technology considering aseismic materials and aseismic structures seems be a good solution for engineering structures. In this study,a constrained damping structure for underground tunnel lining, using a rubber-sand-concrete(RSC)as the aseismic material,is proposed. The aseismic performances of constrained damping structure were investigated by a series of hammer impact tests. The damping layer thickness and shape effects on the aseismic performance such as effective duration and acceleration amplitude of time-domain analysis, composite loss factor and damping ratio of the transfer function analysis, and total vibration level of octave spectrum analysis were discussed. The hammer impact tests revealed that the relationship between the aseismic performance and damping layer thickness was not linear, and that the hollow damping layer had a better aseismic performance than the flat damping layer one.The aseismic performances of constrained damping structure under different seismicity magnitudes and geological conditions were investigated. The effects of the peak ground acceleration(PGA)and tunnel overburden depth on the aseismic performances such as the maximum principal stress and equivalent plastic strain(PEEQ)were discussed. The numerical results show the constrained damping structure proposed in this paper has a good aseismic performance, with PGA in the range(0.2-1.2)g and tunnel overburden depth in the range of 0-300 m.

文摘High-speed railway bridges are subjected to normative limitations concerning maximum permissible deck accelerations. For the design of these structures, the European norm EN 1991-2 introduces the high-speed load model(HSLM)—a set of point loads intended to include the effects of existing high-speed trains.Yet,the evolution of current trains and the recent development of new load models motivate a discussion regarding the limits of validity of the HSLM.For this study,a large number of randomly generated load models of articulated, conventional, and regular trains are tested and compared with the envelope of HSLM effects. For each type of train, two sets of 100,000 load models are considered:one abiding by the limits of the EN 1991-2 and another considering wider limits. This comparison is achieved using both a bridge-independent metric(train signatures)and dynamic analyses on a case study bridge(the Canelas bridge of the Portuguese Railway Network). For the latter,a methodology to decrease the computational cost of moving loads analysis is introduced. Results show that some theoretical load models constructed within the stipulated limits of the norm can lead to effects not covered by the HSLM.This is especially noted in conventional trains, where there is a relation with larger distances between centres of adjacent vehicle bogies.
