For solving the difficult problem of leakage detection in city gas pipelines, a method using acoustic technique based on instantaneous energy (IE) distribution and correlation analysis was proposed. Firstly, the basic theory of leakage detection and location was introduced. Then the physical relationship between instantaneous energy and structural state variation of a system was analyzed theoretically. With HILBERT-HUANG transformation (HHT), the instantaneous energy distribution feature of an unstable acoustic signal was obtained. According to the relative contribution method of the instantaneous energy, the noise in signal was eliminated effectively. Furthermore, in order to judge the leakage, the typical characteristic of the instantaneous energy of signal in the input and output end was discussed using correlative analysis. A number of experiments were carried out to classify the leakage from normal operations, and the results show that the leakages are successfully detected and the average recognition rate reaches 93.3% among three group samples. It is shown that the method using acoustic technique with IED and correlative analysis is effective and it may be referred in other pipelines. 展开更多

A non- invasive acoustical system was developed for the measurement of transmission properties of acoustic waves in the hip joints. The instrumentation consisted of three sub- system s. An excitation system employed a vibratory force at the sacrum of the test subjects.A transduction system included a pair of identical microphones installed in the tubes of two stethoscopes, which were placed at the greater trochanters on both sides for picking up the acoustical signals transm it- ted across the hip joints. The data acquisition and analysis system was a portable signal analyzer with a program of dual channel digital filter for m easuring the power of acoustical signal in 1/ 3- oc- tave frequency bands.2 7normal adults,2 0 normal pre- school children and 4 0 norm al neonates were random ly selected for testing.Coherence function (CF) and discrepancy(D) was measured during the testing. Results from the three groups showed that there was a high coherence of the signals (CF>0 .9) and a sm all discrepancy(D<3d B) between bilateral hips in the frequency range of2 0 0— 315 Hz.For normal neonates, there was a wider frequency range of16 0 - 315 Hz in which the acoustical signals m aintained a high coherence (CF>0 .93) and a smaller discrepancy (D <2 d B) was observed. This study showed that the development of the acoustical technique pro- vided a practical m ethod with objective parameters. The results obtained in this study can offer a baseline for further investigation of hip disorders particularly those related to structural abnorm ali- ties of the hip. 展开更多

The continental shale reservoirs of Jurassic Lianggaoshan Formation in Sichuan Basin contain thin lamina, which is characterized by strong plasticity and developed longitudinal shell limestone interlayer. To improve the production efficiency of reservoirs by multi-cluster fracturing,it is necessary to consider the unbalanced propagation of hydraulic fractures and the penetration effect of fractures. This paper constructed a numerical model of multi-fracture propagation and penetration based on the finite element coupling cohesive zone method;considering the construction cluster spacing, pump rate, lamina strength and other parameters studied the influencing factors of multi-cluster fracture interaction propagation;combined with AE energy data and fracture mode reconstruction method, quantitatively characterized the comprehensive impact of the strength of thin interlayer rock interfaces on the initiation and propagation of fractures that penetrate layers, and accurately predicted the propagation pattern of hydraulic fractures through laminated shale oil reservoirs.Simulation results revealed that in the process of multi-cluster fracturing, the proportion of shear damage is low,and mainly occurs in bedding fractures activated by outer fractures.Reducing the cluster spacing enhances the fracture system's penetration ability, though it lowers the activation efficiency of lamina. The high plasticity of the limestone interlayer may impact the vertical propagation distance of the main fracture.Improving the interface strength is beneficial to the reconstruction of the fracture height, but the interface communication effect is limited.Reasonable selection of layers with moderate lamina strength for fracturing stimulation, increasing the pump rate during fracturing and setting the cluster spacing reasonably are beneficial to improve the effect of reservoir stimulation. 展开更多

A measuring method of the echo reduction of passive materials by using the time reversal(TR) technique is presented. To measure the echo reduction of a sample with this approach, the received signals are firstly focused according to the TR theory. Then, the sample is removed and the TR processing is again employed to realize the focus of the received signal. Finally, the echo reduction of the sample is evaluated with these focusing signals. Besides, to calibrate the measured echo reduction via the TR technique, a standard sample is employed to measure a constant coefficient that only depends on the measurement environment. An aluminum plate sample and a steel plate sample with the same size of 1.1 mxl.O m x0.005 m axe tested in a wave guide tank. The experimental results show that the calibrated values are well consistent with theoretical results under the free field at the measured frequency range of0.5-20 kHz. The relative errors of all the measured values are less than 10% and the values of the expanded uncertainty are less than 1.5 dB. The TR processing focuses the energy in spatial domain and temporal domain, so it can be used to measure the echo reduction of passive materials in the environments with reflections induced by boundaries and low frequency sources. 展开更多

A method using the time reversal(TR) technique to measure the insertion loss(IL) of passive materials is presented.Firstly the received signals are focused according to the TR theory when there is not a sample between the source and the received array. Then, the sample is placed near the received array and the TR processing is again employed to realize the focus of the received signal. Finally, the IL of the sample is evaluated from these focusing signals.Because the TR processing can focus the energy in spatial domain and time domain, the method can be used to measure acoustic properties of passive materials in a waveguide tank with reflections induced by boundaries or with low source frequencies. Two samples with the same size of 1.1 m×1.0 m×5 mm are tested in the waveguide tank. The method is demonstrated by the comparison of the theoretical and the experimental results in the measured frequency range of 1-20 kHz. 展开更多

The nonlinearity has significant effect on the ultrasonic therapy using phased ar- rays. A numerical approach is developed to calculate the nonlinear sound field generated from a phased array based on the Gaussian superposition technique. The parameters of the phased array elements are first estimated from the focal parameters using the inverse matrix algorithm; Then the elements are expressed as a set of Gaussian functions; Finally, the nonlinear sound field can be calculated using the Gaussian superposition technique. In the numerical simulation, a 64~ 1 phased array is used as the transmitter. In the linear case, the difference between the results of the Gaussian superposition technique and the Fresnel integral is less than 0.5%, which verifies the feasibility of the approach. In the nonlinear case, the nonlinear fields of single-focus modes and double-focus modes are calculated. The results reveal that the nonlinear effects can improve the focusing performance, and the nonlinear effects are related with the source pressures and the excitation frequencies. 展开更多

With the more complete acoustic emission(AE)catalog improved by the multi-channel AE matched-filter technique(MFT),we study the spatiotemporal evolution of the AE activities after laboratory stick-slip events incorporate with the slip data recorded by displacement transducers on an^1.5 m granite fault. The results show that the number of the AE events identified by MFT is about 9 times larger than that of the traditional method.A logarithmic expansion of early AE events along the fault strike is observed as a function of time, whereas the fault does not slip in the same manner. Thus,we related the expansion of the early AE events along the fault to the stress transfer caused by the adjacent AE events. Moreover, there is a good correlation between the cumulative number of the later AE events and the amount of fault slip.It suggests that the stress change caused by the continuous slip of the simulated fault after the stick-slip events response for the later AE events near or on the simulated fault. 展开更多

It is usually difficult to measure acoustic velocities through a casing, especially when the casing is poorly bonded with formation. An acoustic logging technique using the dual source of opposite polarity is proposed to enhance the Signal to Noise Ratio of the formation signal and to reduce the casing wave in the data acquisition process. In what follows, a theoret- ical modeling is used to caculate the wavefroms of cased wells. And then, a scaled experiment was conducted in the 1:10 scaled experimental well using the proposed technique in the poorly- bonded condition. The results show that this technique can effectively suppress the casing wave and enhance the formation wave, even in the poorly-bonded condition. By analyzing the measured wavefroms, the amplitude of casing wave is reduced to 12% compared to the conventional one-source technique, and the compressional wave velocity can be easily obtained by using this technique. Both the theoretical modeling and experiment results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technique. This study establishes the theoretical and experimental foundation for the cased-hole, dual source of opposite polarity, acoustic logging tool development. 展开更多

This study empirically investigated the influence of freeze-thaw cycling on the dynamic splitting tensile properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC).Brazilian disc splitting tests were conducted using four loading rates(0.002,0.02,0.2,and 2 mm/s)on specimens with four steel fiber contents(0%,0.6%,1.2%,and 1.8%)subjected to 0 and 50 freeze-thaw cycles. The dynamic splitting tensile damage characteristics were evaluated using acoustic emission(AE)parameter analysis and Fourier transform spectral analysis. The results quantified using the freeze-thaw damage factor defined in this paper indicate that the degree of damage to SFRC caused by freeze-thaw cycling was aggravated with increasing loading rate but mitigated by increasing fiber content. The percentage of low-frequency AE signals produced by the SFRC specimens during loading decreased with increasing loading rate, whereas that of high-frequency AE signals increased.Freeze-thaw action had little effect on the crack types observed during the early and middle stages of the loading process;however, the primary crack type observed during the later stage of loading changed from shear to tensile after the SFRC specimens were subjected to freeze-thaw cycling.Notably, the results of this study indicate that the freeze-thaw damage to SFRC reduces AE signal activity at low frequencies. 展开更多
