The 3D characteristic diagram of acoustically induced surface vibration was employed to study the influence of different buried landmines on the acoustic detection signal. By using the vehicular experimental system for acoustic landmine detection and the method of scanning detection, the 3D characteristic diagrams of surface vibration were measured when different objects were buried underground, including big plastic landmine, small plastic landmine, big metal landmine and bricks. The results show that, under the given conditions, the surface vibration amplitudes of big plastic landmine, big metal landmine, small plastic landmine and bricks decrease in turn. The 3D characteristic diagrams of surface vibration can be used to further identify the locations of buried landmines. 展开更多

As a widely used measurement technique in rock mechanics, spatial correlation modeling of acoustic emission(AE)scattering signals is attracting increasing focus for describing mechanical behavior quantitatively.Unlike the statistical description of the spatial distribution of randomly generated AE signals, spatial correlation modeling is based mainly on short-range correlation considering the interrelationship of adjacent signals. As a new idea from percolation models, the covering strategy is used to build the most representative cube cluster, which corresponds to the critical scale at peak stress. Its modeling process of critical cube cluster depends strongly on the full connection of the main fracture network, and the corresponding cube for coverage is termed the critical cube. The criticality pertains to not only the transition of local-to-whole connection of the fracture network but also the increasing-to-decreasing transition of the deviatoric stress with an obvious stress drop in the brittle failure of granite.Determining a reasonable critical cube guarantees the best observation scale for investigating the failure process.Besides, the topological connection induces the geometric criticality of three descriptors, namely anisotropy, pore fraction, and specific surface area, which are evaluated separately and effectively. The results show that cluster modeling based on the critical cube is effective and has criticality in both topology and geometry,as well as the triaxial behavior.Furthermore, the critical cube length presents a high confidence probability of being correlated to the mineral particle size.Besides, its pore fraction of cube cluster is influenced strongly by the critical cube length and confining pressure. 展开更多

On the purpose of accurate data acquisition for the aeroacoustic testing mostly in open jet test section of aeroacoustic wind tunnel, the large scale anechoic chamber is specifically designed to build the low background noise environment. A newly acoustic test section is presented in this paper, of which the contour is similar as the closed test section, and the wall is fabricated by the fiber fabric, both the characteristics of closed and open jet test section of conventional wind tunnel are combined in it. By thoroughly researching on the acoustics and aerodynamics of this acoustically transparent test section, significant progress in reducing the background noises in test section and improving the ratio of energy of the wind tunnel and some other aspects have been achieved. Acoustically transparent test section behaves better in acoustics and aerodynamics than conventional acoustic test section because of their high definition in detecting the sound sources and great performance in transmitting sounds. 展开更多

The physical circumstances inside an acoustically driven single gas bubble in water has been intensively explored during the past few years. Starting from the results obtained for a typical case in a well known early paper (Wu, C. C., Roberts, P. H., Phys. Rev. Lett., 1993, 70(22): 3424) and introducing successively several corrections to the physical model, this paper computes in corresponding order the temporal and spatial distributions of significant physical parameters, including the temperature and the pressure, in the bubble around the moment of the bubble's violent collapse, until expectations in consistence with the present points of view are procured. For the peak temperature our results agree with the prevailing belief that in a typical stable single bubble it is of the order of ten thousand degrees. 展开更多

In recent decades, the importance of surface acoustic waves,as a biocompatible tool to integrate with microfluidics, has been proven in various medical and biological applications. The numerical modeling of acoustic streaming caused by surface acoustic waves in microchannels requires the effect of viscosity to be considered in the equations which complicates the solution. In this paper,it is shown that the major contribution of viscosity and the horizontal component of actuation is concentrated in a narrow region alongside the actuation boundary.Since the inviscid equations are considerably easier to solve,a division into the viscous and inviscid domains would alleviate the computational load significantly. The particles'traces calculated by this approximation are excellently alongside their counterparts from the completely viscous model. It is also shown that the optimum thickness for the viscous strip is about 9-fold the acoustic boundary layer thickness for various flow patterns and amplitudes of actuation. 展开更多

Rock fracture mechanisms can be inferred from moment tensors(MT)inverted from microseismic events. However,MT can only be inverted for events whose waveforms are acquired across a network of sensors. This is limiting for underground mines where the microseismic stations often lack azimuthal coverage. Thus, there is a need for a method to invert fracture mechanisms using waveforms acquired by a sparse microseismic network. Here,we present a novel,multi-scale framework to classify whether a rock crack contracts or dilates based on a single waveform. The framework consists of a deep learning model that is initially trained on 2400000+manually labelled field-scale seismic and microseismic waveforms acquired across 692 stations.Transfer learning is then applied to fine-tune the model on 300000+MT-labelled labscale acoustic emission waveforms from 39 individual experiments instrumented with different sensor layouts, loading, and rock types in training. The optimal model achieves over 86%F-score on unseen waveforms at both the lab-and field-scale.This model outperforms existing empirical methods in classification of rock fracture mechanisms monitored by a sparse microseismic network. This facilitates rapid assessment of,and early warning against, various rock engineering hazard such as induced earthquakes and rock bursts. 展开更多

Acoustic radiation force(ARF), as an important particle manipulation method, has been extensively studied in recent years. With the introduction of the concept of “acoustic tweezers”, negative acoustic radiation has become a research hotspot. In this paper, a scheme of realizing negative ARF based on the multiple-layered spherical structure design is proposed. The specific structure and design idea are presented. Detailed theoretical calculation analysis is carried out.Numerical simulations have been performed to verify the correctness of this prediction. The conjecture that the suppression of backscattering can achieve negative ARF is verified concretely, which greatly expands the application prospect and design ideas of the ARF. This work has laid a theoretical foundation for realizing precise control of the structure. 展开更多

Compared with traditional piezoelectric ultrasonic devices, optoacoustic devices have unique advantages such as a simple preparation process,anti-electromagnetic interference, and wireless long-distance power supply. However, current optoacoustic devices remain limited due to a low damage threshold and energy conversion efficiency, which seriously hinder their widespread applications. In this study, using a self-healing polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS,Fe-Hpdca-PDMS)and carbon nanotube composite,a flexible optoacoustic patch is developed, which possesses the self-healing capability at room temperature, and can even recover from damage induced by cutting or laser irradiation. Moreover, this patch can generate high-intensity ultrasound(>25 MPa)without the focusing structure. The laser damage threshold is greater than 183.44 mJ cm^(-2),and the optoacoustic energy conversion efficiency reaches a major achievement at 10.66×10^(-3),compared with other carbon-based nanomaterials and PDMS composites. This patch is also been successfully examined in the application of acoustic flow, thrombolysis, and wireless energy harvesting. All findings in this study provides new insight into designing and fabricating of novel ultrasound devices for biomedical applications. 展开更多

Rock has mechanical characteristics and a fracture damage mechanism that are closely related to its loading history and loading path. The mechanical properties, fracture damage features, acoustic emission(AE) characteristics, and strain energy evolution of the Beishan shallow-layer granite used in triaxial unloading tests were investigated in this study. Three groups of triaxial tests, namely, conventional triaxial compression test(Group Ⅰ), maintaining deviatoric stress synchronously unloading confining pressure test(Group Ⅱ), and loading axial pressure synchronously unloading confining pressure test(Group Ⅲ), were carried out for the cylindrical granite specimens. AE monitoring device was utilized in these tests to determine the degree to which the AE waves and AE events reflected the degree of rock damage. In addition, the crack stress thresholds of the specimens were determined by volumetric strain method and AE parameter method, and strain energy evolution of the rock was explored in different damage stages. The results show that the shallow-layer granite experiences brittle failure during the triaxial loading test and unloading test, and the rock has a greater damage degree during the unloading test. The crack stress thresholds of these samples vary greatly between tests, but the threshold ratios of all samples are similar in the same crack damage stage. The Mogi-Coulomb strength criterion can better describe the unloading failure strength of the rock. The evolution of the AE parameter characteristics and strain energy differs between the specimens used in different stress path tests. The dissipative strain energy is the largest in Group Ⅱ and the smallest in Group Ⅰ. 展开更多

Understanding the differences in mechanical properties and damage characteristics of granitoid under high temperatures is crucial for exploring deep geothermal resources. This study analyzes the evolution of the acoustic emission(AE)characteristics and mechanical parameters of granodiorite and granite after heating and water cooling by uniaxial compression and variable-angle shear tests under different temperature gradients. We identify their changes in mesostructure and mineral composition with electron probe microanalysis and scanning electron microscopy. Results show that these two hot dry rocks have similar diagenetic minerals and microstructure, but show significantly different mechanical and acoustic characteristics, and even opposing evolution trends in a certain temperature range. At the temperatures ranging from 100℃to 500℃,the compressive and shear mechanical properties of granodiorite switch repeatedly between weakening and strengthening, and those of granite show a continuous weakening trend. At 600℃,both rocks exhibit a deterioration of mechanical properties. The damage mode of granite is characterized by initiating at low stress, exponential evolutionary activity, and intensified energy release. In contrast, granodiorite exhibits the characteristics of initiating at high stress, volatile evolutionary activity, and intermittent energy release, due to its more stable microstructure and fewer thermal defects compared to granite. As the temperature increases, the initiation and propagation of secondary cracks in granodiorite are suppressed to a certain extent, and the seismicity and brittleness are enhanced. The subtle differences in grain size, microscopic heterogeneity, and mineral composition of the two hot dry rocks determine the different acoustic-mechanical characteristics under heating and cooling, and the evolution trends with temperature. These findings are of great significance for the scientific and efficient construction of rock mass engineering by rationally utilizing different rock strata properties. 展开更多

To investigate the mechanical failure characteristics of volcanic breccia with different bedding dip angles in deep layers, triaxial compression experiments were conducted on specimens taken from volcanic rock layers in the Junggar Basin,Xinjiang.By changing the confining pressure,we compared the mechanical properties, acoustic emission characteristics, and fractal features of the acoustic emission sequence for volcanic breccia with different bedding dip angles. The research results indicate that as the bedding dip angle increases, peak strength, internal friction angle, and cohesion exhibit a“U-shaped”variation pattern. The correlation dimension of the acoustic emission amplitude was calculated using the G-P algorithm, revealing that volcanic breccia exhibits fractal characteristics.Furthermore,a positive correlation between the correlation dimension and the bedding dip angle was observed. When the stress of the test specimen reaches 0.8σ_(c),there is a significant decrease in the fractal dimension, serving as a criterion for predicting the failure of the specimen.By analyzing the changes in fractal dimension at different stress levels, the slope of the fractal dimension△D<-0.5 can be used as a precursor to failure for test specimens with a bedding dip angle of 15°≤β≤45°.Similarly,when the bedding dip angle of the specimen is 0°≤β<15°or 45°<β≤90°,△D<0 can be considered as a precursor to specimen failure. This study provides theoretical references for understanding the failure patterns of volcanic rock. 展开更多

The morphological changes in isolated bubbles in gassy silt play a critical role in the microscopic structures between soil particles and bubbles and macroscopic physical properties.Based on X-ray CT scanning experiments under various vertical loads(four levels),self-designed acoustic macro experiments, and a series of formula revisions to the macro-air-bearing silt sound-velocity prediction model, this paper discusses the macro-and micro-scale features of gassy silts from the Yellow River Delta. The samples consisted of different proportions of silt from the Yellow River Delta and porous media, and they were used to form two types of aerosol silts with initial gas contents of 4.23%and 7.67%.The results show that the air bubble content and external load considerably affect the microstructural parameters and acoustic behavior of gassy silt in the Yellow River Delta. The macroscopic sound velocity showed a linear positive correlation with vertical load and relation to microstructural parameters in varying manners and degrees.Based on the traditional Biot-Stoll acoustic model, the gas-phase medium coefficient was introduced for the proper calculation and prediction of the sound velocity of air-bearing silt. The errors of the overall prediction varied between 5.6%and 9.6%. 展开更多

A transient 3D model was established to investigate the effect of spatial interaction of ultrasounds on the dual-frequency ultrasonic field in magnesium alloy melt. The effects of insertion depth and tip shape of the ultrasonic rods, input pressures and their ratio on the acoustic field distribution were discussed in detail.Additionally, the spacing, angle, and insertion depth of two ultrasonic rods significantly affect the interaction between distinct ultrasounds. As a result, various acoustic pressure distributions and cavitation regions are obtained. The spherical rods mitigate the longitudinal and transversal attenuation of acoustic pressure and expand the cavitation volume by 53.7%and 31.7%,respectively,compared to the plate and conical rods.Increasing the input pressure will enlarge the cavitation region but has no effect on the acoustic pressure distribution pattern. The acoustic pressure ratio significantly affects the pressure distribution and the cavitation region, and the best cavitation effect is obtained at the ratio of 2:1(P15:P20). 展开更多

Acoustic emission(AE)localization algorithms based on homogeneous media or single-velocity are less accurate when applied to the triaxial localization experiments. To the end,a robust triaxial localization method of AE source using refraction path is proposed.Firstly, the control equation of the refraction path is established according to the sensor coordinates and arrival times.Secondly, considering the influence of time-difference-of-arrival(TDOA)errors,the residual of the governing equation is calculated to estimate the equation weight.Thirdly, the refraction points in different directions are solved using Snell’s law and orthogonal constraints. Finally, the source coordinates are iteratively solved by weighted correction terms. The feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method are verified by pencil-lead breaking experiments. The simulation results show that the new method is almost unaffected by the refraction ratio, and always holds more stable and accurate positioning performance than the traditional method under different ratios and scales of TDOA outliers. 展开更多

In this paper, a two-dimensional(2D) DOA estimation algorithm of coherent signals with a separated linear acoustic vector-sensor(AVS) array consisting of two sparse AVS arrays is proposed. Firstly, the partitioned spatial smoothing(PSS) technique is used to construct a block covariance matrix, so as to decorrelate the coherency of signals. Then a signal subspace can be obtained by singular value decomposition(SVD) of the covariance matrix. Using the signal subspace, two extended signal subspaces are constructed to compensate aperture loss caused by PSS.The elevation angles can be estimated by estimation of signal parameter via rotational invariance techniques(ESPRIT) algorithm. At last, the estimated elevation angles can be used to estimate automatically paired azimuth angles. Compared with some other ESPRIT algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows higher estimation accuracy, which can be proved through the simulation results. 展开更多

In the realm of acoustic signal detection, the identification of weak signals, particularly in the presence of negative signal-to-noise ratios, poses a significant challenge. This challenge is further heightened when signals are acquired through fiber-optic hydrophones,as these signals often lack physical significance and resist clear systematic modeling.Conventional processing methods,e.g.,low-pass filter(LPF),require a thorough understanding of the effective signal bandwidth for noise reduction, and may introduce undesirable time lags. This paper introduces an innovative feedback control method with dual Kalman filters for the demodulation of phase signals with noises in fiber-optic hydrophones.A mathematical model of the closed-loop system is established to guide the design of the feedback control, aiming to achieve a balance with the input phase signal. The dual Kalman filters are instrumental in mitigating the effects of signal noise, observation noise, and control execution noise, thereby enabling precise estimation for the input phase signals. The effectiveness of this feedback control method is demonstrated through examples, showcasing the restoration of low-noise signals, negative signal-to-noise ratio signals, and multi-frequency signals. This research contributes to the technical advancement of high-performance devices, including fiber-optic hydrophones and phase-locked amplifiers. 展开更多

Identifying a device and detecting a change in its position is critical for secure devices management in the Internet of Things(IoT).In this paper,a device management system is proposed to track the devices by using audio-based location distinction techniques. In the proposed scheme, traditional cryptographic techniques, such as symmetric encryption algorithm,RSA-based signcryption scheme, and audio-based secure transmission, are utilized to provide authentication,non-repudiation,and confidentiality in the information interaction of the management system. Moreover,an audio-based location distinction method is designed to detect the position change of the devices.Specifically, the audio frequency response(AFR)of several frequency points is utilized as a device signature. The device signature has the features as follows.(1)Hardware Signature:different pairs of speaker and microphone have different signatures;(2)Distance Signature:in the same direction, the signatures are different at different distances;and(3)Direction Signature:at the same distance, the signatures are different in different directions.Based on the features above, amovement detection algorithmfor device identification and location distinction is designed. Moreover,a secure communication protocol is also proposed by using traditional cryptographic techniques to provide integrity, authentication, and non-repudiation in the process of information interaction between devices,Access Points(APs),and Severs.Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposedmethod has a good performance in accuracy and energy consumption. 展开更多

Staggered-grid finite-difference(SGFD)schemes have been widely used in acoustic wave modeling for geophysical problems. Many improved methods are proposed to enhance the accuracy of numerical modeling. However, these methods are inevitably limited by the maximum Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy(CFL)numbers,making them unstable when modeling with large time sampling intervals or small grid spacings. To solve this problem,we extend a stable SGFD scheme by controlling SGFD dispersion relations and maximizing the maximum CFL numbers.First,to improve modeling stability,we minimize the error between the FD dispersion relation and the exact relation in the given wave-number region, and make the FD dispersion approach a given function outside the given wave-number area, thus breaking the conventional limits of the maximum CFL number.Second,to obtain high modeling accuracy,we use the SGFD scheme based on the Remez algorithm to compute the FD coefficients. In addition, the hybrid absorbing boundary condition is adopted to suppress boundary reflections and we find a suitable weighting coefficient for the proposed scheme.Theoretical derivation and numerical modeling demonstrate that the proposed scheme can maintain high accuracy in the modeling process and the value of the maximum CFL number of the proposed scheme can exceed that of the conventional SGFD scheme when adopting a small maximum effective wavenumber, indicating that the proposed scheme improves stability during the modeling. 展开更多

The present study explores the physical and acoustic characteristics of fine sand and clay in novel seabed marine sediments from of Pakistan coastline of the Arabian Sea.The measured physical parameters included mean grain size, mass density, bulk density, salinity, porosity, permeability, pore size and mineralogical composition.Acoustic properties, including sound speed and attenuation,in the high frequency range of 90-170 kHz were analyzed.A controlled laboratory setup with the acoustic transmission method and Fourier transform techniques was utilized to examine the sound propagation and absorption of novel seabed sediments. The standard deviation of mean sound speed in fresh water was 0.75 m/s,and attenuation was observed in the range of 0.43 to 0.61 dB/m.The mean sound velocity in sand and clay varied from 1706 to 1709 m/s and 1602 to 1608 m/s,respectively.Corresponding average attenuation was observed at 80 to 93 dB/m in sandy sediments and from 31.8 to 38.6 dB/m in clayey sediments.Sound velocity variation within sandy sediment is low, consistent with expected results, and smaller than the predicted uncertainty. However, clay sediment exhibited a positive linear correlation and low sound speed variation.Attenuation increased linearly with frequency for both sediments. Finally, the laboratory results were validated by using the Biot−Stoll model. The dispersion of sound speed in sandy and clayey sediments was consistent with the predictions of the Biot−Stoll model.Measured attenuation aligned more with Biot−Stoll model predictions due to improved permeability, tortuosity and pore size parameter fitting. 展开更多
