As a practical style, Advertising English has gradually derived from the English language due to its particular social role. In this respect, this paper will generalise the fundamental knowledge of the advertisement including its definition, objective, and writing principles. This is followed by an analysis on language features based on vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and rhetorical devices. However, the main thrust of the thesis is not devoted to a purely linguistic study. Rather, building on the theoretical reflections of equivalent theory and cultural conversion, this paper attempts to find the joint reflecting the similar functions of both English and Chinese. Therefore, This thesis will not confine itself simply to a list of language features but rather go further and crack the "hard nut"--how to tackle translation in advertisements. Little ink, as the case stands, has been spilled over this crux. Taking into consideration the distinctive functions and stylistic features of advertisement, general principles that highlight the qualities of awareness, understanding, conviction, and action will be offered. Based on these general principles, tactics both regular and strategic are tentatively offered. As is often the case, a translator walking on a tightrope plays dual roles: a submissive servant and a defiant master. In this sense, it is proposed that a blend of regular and strategic tactics should be employed in pursuit of an optimum transfer of information. 展开更多

In order to communicate with each other, human beings must make use of the methods of translation. Thus, it shows that translation, which is a social activity of inter-language, inter-culture and inter-community, is linked closely to culture. Meanwhile, the features of translation represent similarly in advertising translation. Generally speaking, when doing advertising translation,it can not only focus on language differences between the two sides, but also pay attention to cultural differences. Or else it would be difficult to translate satisfying advertisements. By taking examples from Chinese-English and English-Chinese, this paper compares the different aspects between Chinese and Western thinking sets, traditional ideas and values in order to reflect differences of advertising translation based on different cultures. However, owing to the rich social and cultural background, the strong language features and cultural characteristics, the Internet Catchphrases' translation has been very tricky. The paper deems that the network popular words in English translation should take into account their context factors such as the social and cultural background, tap their particular semantic connotation, and at the same time consider the characteristics of the language itself, to make the graceful bearing of graphics primitives. This article by analyzing the main characteristics of the network buzzwords, describing the translation of its main guidance theory, and citing the prevalence of some words on the network analyzes and compares their various English translation methods to analyze a number of English translation skills and strategies. 展开更多

茶叶风靡英伦三岛,成为“国民饮品”的同时也走上了文人的书桌,走进了诗人的颂歌。以质性研究软件NVivo 12为工具,以11部题材各异的英语文学作品为研究样本,对其指涉的茶文化进行编码赋值。质性数据表明,英语文学作品的茶文化表现为物... 茶叶风靡英伦三岛,成为“国民饮品”的同时也走上了文人的书桌,走进了诗人的颂歌。以质性研究软件NVivo 12为工具,以11部题材各异的英语文学作品为研究样本,对其指涉的茶文化进行编码赋值。质性数据表明,英语文学作品的茶文化表现为物态文化、体制文化、行为文化和心态文化四大范式。在文学与茶的联姻中,物态文化和行为文化处于叙事模式建构的主要地位,体制文化受到故事主题的宰制最为明显;心态文化蕴含英伦茶风的哲学思考,游动于众多文学作品之中。数据揭示了英语文学作品的茶语特征,即以茶为媒的本土意识、音义结合的茶名及茶意象的美学赋予。基于以上发现,以功能对等翻译理论为指导,得出英语文学作品茶文化汉译的三大启示:尊重茶文化差异;合理进行翻译补偿;再现茶物语言的诗性美感。 展开更多
