Air-gapped computers are isolated both logically and physically from all kinds of existing common communication channel, such as USB ports, wireless and wired net- works. Although the feasibility of infiltrating an air-gapped computer has been proved in recent years, data exfiltration from such sys- tems is still considered to be a challenging task. In this paper we present Powermittcr, a novel approach that can exfiltrate data through an air-gapped computer via its power adapter. Our method utilizes the switched-mode pow- er supply, which exists in all of the laptops, desktop computers and servers nowadays. We demonstrate that a malware can indirectly con- trol the electromagnetic emission frequency of the power supply by leveraging the CPU utili- zation. Furthermore, we show that the emitted signals can be received and demodulated by a dedicated device. We present the proof of con- cept design of the power covert channel and implement a prototype of Powermitter consist- ing of a transmitter and a receiver. The trans- mitter leaks out data by using a variant binary frequency shift keying modulation, and the emitted signal can be captured and decoded by software based virtual oscilloscope through such covert channel. We tested Powermitter on three different computers. The experiment re-suits show the feasibility of this power covert channel. We show that our method can also be used to leak data from different types of embedded systems which use switching power supply. 展开更多

To improve energy con- sumption efficiency, a reliable IM health condition moni- toring system is very useful to detect IM fault at its earliest stage to prevent operation degradation, and malfunction of IMs. An intelligent harmonic synthesis technique is pro- posed in this work to conduct incipient air-gap eccentricity fault detection in IMs. The fault harmonic series are syn- thesized to enhance fault features. Fault related local spectra are processed to derive fault indicators for IM air- gap eccentricity diagnosis. The effectiveness of the pro- posed harmonic synthesis technique is examined experi- mentally by IMs with static air-gap eccentricity and dynamic air-gap eccentricity states under different load conditions. Test results show that the developed harmonic synthesis technique can extract fault features effectively for initial IM air-gap eccentricity fault detection. 展开更多

Many 3D IC applications such as MEMS and RF systems require Through-Silicon Via (TSV) with operations for high-speed vertical communication. In this paper, we introduce a novel air-gap coaxial TSV that is suiTab, for such RF applications. Firstly, the detailed fabrication process is described to explain how to acquire such a structure. Then, an Resistor Inductance Conductance Capacitance (RLGC) model is developed to profile the transverse electromagnetic field effect of the proposed air-gap TSV. The model is further verified by a 3D field solver program through the S-parameter comparison. With reference to the numerically simulated results, this analytical model delivers a maximum deviation of less than 6%0, on the conditions of varying diameters, outer to inner radius ratios, and SU-8 central angles, etc. Taking advantages of scalability of the model, a number of air-gap-based TSV designs are simulated, providing 1.6-4.0 times higher bandwidth than the con- ventional coaxial TSVs and leading to an efficient high frequency vertical RF interconnection solution for 3D ICs. 展开更多

Based on the results of the research project on the minimum air clearance for 800-kV HVDC substations at high altitudes, and also on the monthly and yearly statistics of the atmospheric data of last ten years and the altitude correction of the atmospheric data of last ten years, the altitude correction of the air-gaps for the 800-kV DC system under plan, 500-kV AC system to be built, and 1000-kV AC system under plan in the Inner Mongolia Plateau and the Yungui Plateau in China were studied with parameter G method. Correction factors for switching and lightning impulses were calculatod and then compared with those achieved according to IEC 71. It is shown that IEC 71 is appropriate for damp regions, and correction factors differ between plateau regions in China because of different atmospheric conditions. 展开更多

In this paper, a two-pole three-phase high-speed brushless PM (permanent magnet) motor with ratings air-gap length and stator slot number on the motor performance of 7.5 kW, 30,000 rpm is designed, and the effect of the different was analyzed. The results show that larger number of stator slot decreases the rotor loss and the rotor torque ripple. Larger air-gap length decreases the rotor loss. 展开更多

A major criticality of such machines is the occurrence of large air-gap field harmonics due to winding distribution and to slotting effects. Predicting such harmonics analytically with adequate accuracy is a good way to significantly speed-up subsequent investigations, concerning the rotor effects of the field harmonics in terms of rotor losses. This paper proposes different analytical formulations for this purpose, covering the case of a generic number of stator phases and differing by how slotting effects are taken into account. The various approaches proposed are evaluated by comparing analytical results with finite-element analysis computations on a sample machine geometries. 展开更多

Efficient generation of an accurate numerical wave is an essential part of the Numerical Wave Basin that simulates the interaction of floating structures with extreme waves.computational fluid dynamics(CFD)is used to model the complex free-surface flow around the floating structure.To minimize CFD domain that requires intensive computing resources,fully developed nonlinear waves are simulated in a large domain that covers far field by more efficient potential flow model and then coupled with the CFD solution nearfield.Several numerical models have been proposed for the potential flow model.the higher-level spectral(HLS)method presented in this paper is the extended version of HLS model for deep water recently been derived by combining efficiency and robustness of the two existing numerical models–Higher-Order Spectral method and Irrotational Green-Naghdi model(Kim et al.2022).The HLS model is extended for the application of finite-depth of water considering interaction with background current.The verification of the HLS model for finite depth is made by checking the qualification criteria of the generated random waves for a wind-farm application in the Dong-Hae Sea of Korea.A selected wave event that represents P90 crest height is coupled to a CFD-based numerical wave tank for the future air-gap analysis of a floating wind turbine. 展开更多

To address this problem, a method for detecting the DF attacks based on the fourteen Machine Learning(ML) algorithms is proposed in this paper. First, we collect a number of data about Power Spectral Density(PSD) and frequency of the sound wave from the Hard Disk Drive(HDD). Second, the corresponding machine learning models are trained respectively using the collected data. Third, the trained ML models are employed to detect whether a DF attack occurs or not respectively, if given pair of values of PSD and frequency are input. Methods A single muscle spindle was isolated from sartorial mus cle of toad. Using air-gap technique, afferent discharge of the muscle spindle was recorded. Effects of Angelica Sinensis, Salvia Miltiorrhiza, and Safflower o n afferent discharge of the muscle spindle were observed. Results Angelica Sinensis could distinctly increase afferent di scharge frequency of the muscle spindle, and this increase was dose-dependent. But Salvia Miltiorrhiza and Safflower had no this excitatory effect. Conclusion It is known that Angelica Sinensis can invigorate bl ood circulation, and we have found its excitatory effect on muscle spindle which makes it possible to serve people with muscle atrophy if more evidences from cl inical experiments are available. 展开更多

In this paper,the equivalent reluctance network model(ERNM)is used to calculate the magnetic circuit of a permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor(PMASynRM)and calculate no-load air-gap magnetic field and electromagnetic torque.Iteration method is used to solve the relative permeability of iron core.A novel reluctance network model based on actual distribution of the magnetic flux inside the motor is established.The magnetomotive force(MMF)generated by armature winding affects the relative permeability of iron core,which is considered in the calculation of ERNM to improve the accuracy when the motor is under load.ERNM can be used to measure air-gap flux density,no-load back electromotive force(EMF),the average value of motor torque,the armature winding voltage under load,and power factor.The method of calculating the motor performance is proposed.The results of calculation are consistent with finite element method(FEM)and the computational complexity is much less than that of the FEM.The results of ERNM has been verified,which will provide a simple method for motor design and analysis. 展开更多

A novel embedded-type permanent magnetic motor for hybrid motorcycle, which employs asymmetric design of eccentric air-gap, is proposed in the paper. This special design of air-gap well conforms to the mono-directional operation characteristic of motorcycle and effectively suppresses the distortion of air-gap magnetic field caused by armature reaction. Hence the torque ripple is reduced. A drive system consisting of the newly-designed Nd-Fe-B permanent magnet synchronous motor and parallel-MOSFET three-phase inverter for hybrid motorcycle propulsion is established. Wide-range speed operation is realized through a simple and novel control strategy. Computer simulation is described and experimental results given to verify the practicality of the proposed motor design and control strategy. 展开更多

Study on regurgitation of a bearing-less mini axial aortic valvo-pump with closed impeller

The back-flow of an aortic valvo-pump will re-duce the pumping flow rate but can wash out the gap between the rotor and the stator, and thus can improve the antithrombogenicity of the de-vice. To investigate the regurgitation of a 23mm OD aortic valvo-pump, its closed impeller was replaced by a cylinder and hereby the valvo- pump had lost its pumping function. The pres-sure head crossing the aortic valvo-pump was maintained by a locally made pulsatile centrifugal pump, beating rhythmically from 30 to 120mmHg. The back flow from outlet to inlet of valvo-pump via the above-mentioned gap was measured. Results demonstrated that this gap and the pressure head had remarkable effect on back- flow;a larger gap and/or a larger pressure head would lead to a larger back-flow. By 0,20mm gap and 100mmHg pressure head, the valvo-pump had ca. 0,8 l/min back-flow. Instantaneous meas-urement indicated that the back-flow had a pul-satile form with high rate during diastole while low rate during systole of the natural heart imi-tated by pulsatile centrifugal pump. The pump rotated at 12500rpm, 15000rpm and 17500rpm respectively, but it was found the rotating speed had no affection on back-flow. This investigation provides a basis for pump design seeking for both increase of the flow rate and improvement of the compatibility;the former is particularly important for a mini axial pump and the latter is extremely difficult for closed impeller. 展开更多

The experiments of plane-plane gap discharge was carried out in an environment of artificial sandstorm. By comparing and analyzing the differences in gap breakdown voltage between the sand & dust environment and clean air, some problems were investigated, such as effects of wind speed and particle concentration on the breakdown voltage, differences of gap discharge characteristics between the dust & sand medium and the clean air medium. The results showed that compared with the clean air environment, the dust & sand environment had a decreased gap breakdown voltage. The longer the gap distance, the greater the voltage drop; the breakdown voltage decreased with the increase of particle concentration in flow. With the increase of wind speed, the breakdown voltage decreased at the beginning and rose afterwards. The results of the paper may helpful for further research regarding the unidentified flashover and external insulation characteristics of the HV power grid in the dust & sand environment. 展开更多

Aiming at the air-gap magnetic field excited by wall armatures,Laplace’s partial differential equation of air-gap magnetic potential is achieved by means of the electromagnetic field theory.According to the magnetic boundary conditions and the method of separation of variables,the magnetic potential of the air-gap magnetic field is obtained.Based on the magnetization force model and Lorentz force of ferromagnetic thin-walled structures,and introducing the electromagnetic constitutive relations and boundary conditions,the calculation model of electromagnetic force of the soft ferromagnetic thin plate moving in air-gap magnetic field is established.Considering geometric nonlinearity,expressions of strain energy and kinetic energy of the elastic thin plate and the work of forces are given,respectively.The magnetic-structure coupling nonlinear vibration equations of ferromagnetic thin plate parallel moving in the air-gap magnetic field excited by armatures are obtained by using the Hamilton principle,which can be of the characterization of the system dynamics model with electro-magneto-velocity-mechanical interaction.Through numerical examples,primary resonance characteristics of the strip thin plate under the action of air-gap magnetic force are obtained.The results show that the two stable amplitude values will increase as amplitude of magnetic potential increases and thickness of air-gap decreases,and the amplitude’s multi-valued region will change due to the varieties of magnetic potential,air-gap and velocity.The model established in this paper is a theoretical reference for investigation on the multi-field coupling dynamic behaviors of structures moving in complex electromagnetic fields. 展开更多

Effect of Complex Parameters of Porous Media on Desalination Performance in Air-Gap Diffusion Distillation Based on Multiple Regression Analysis

Air-Gap Diffusion Distillation(AGDD) is a new technology aiming at solving the problem of the safety of drinking water for residents in remote areas that uses a super hydrophilic porous medium as the hot channel and evaporation surface. In the experiment, it was found that the parameters of porous media have a significant influence on the desalination(evaporation) efficiency of AGDD. Although porous media are widely used as evaporation components, the factors affecting their evaporation efficiency are not fully understood. The evaporation process in super hydrophilic porous media is rarely discussed. A large number of experiments have been carried out based on AGDD. The introduction of statistical methods solves the problem that experiments cannot distinguish the contribution of complex parameters of porous media to evaporation efficiency. Stepwise regression analysis is used to reduce the dimensionality of the independent variables and construct regression equations(coefficient of determination R~2 reached 81.3%-96.8%). Evaporation flux correlations and dimensionless mass transfer correlations are established based on porous media parameters. We found that the surface evaporation of super hydrophilic porous media can be divided into three stages: diffusion evaporation, capillary evaporation, and thermal evaporation. The evaporation efficiency of these three stages is controlled by the vapor diffusion process resistance, capillary force, and energy supply. At low saturation, evaporation efficiency is limited by the resistance of the vapor diffusion process. The evaporation efficiency of the porous media is affected predominantly by the pore size, the specific surface area, porosity and the characteristic length. At high saturation, the evaporation efficiency becomes influenced primarily by the permeability. A small thickness and a high hydrophilicity also improve the evaporation efficiency. 展开更多

In this paper, firstly, a basic nonlinear magnetic network model considering iron saturations is proposed for a three-phase 12-stator-slot/10-rotor-pole flux-switching permanent magnet(FSPM) machine. This model is built under cylindrical coordinates and enables the open-circuit air-gap flux-density distributions, phase permanent magnet(PM) flux-linkage, and electromotive-force(EMF) to be predicted with acceptable accuracy. However, large discrepancies are found in the predictions of armature inductances. Then, the basic model is modified by taking into account the localized saturation effect. As a result, the electromagnetic performance can be predicted more accurately, especially for the air-gap flux-density distributions. Furthermore, two improved models are proposed by adding bypass-bridge branches in stator network, to enhance the calculating accuracy of both saturated and unsaturated armature inductances. Finally, the predicted results from the four magnetic network models are validated by both 2D finite element analysis(FEA) and experimental measurements on a machine prototype. Overall, comparisons indicate that the model with bypass-bridge branches between stator teeth and back irons exhibits best performances. 展开更多

A tensile-plate-on-air-spring model (or called TDK model for short) for micromachined electrostatic ultrasonic transducers has been developed based on a thorough investigation of their dynamic mechanism. The mechanical stiffness effects caused by the compressibility of air gaps, bending stiffness of the diaphragm and in-plane tension applied to the diaphragm, together with an electrostatic negative stiffness effect are included completely in the model. Desired particular fundamental frequency and bandwidth can be obtained by only properly tailoring the geometry, dimensions and materials of transducers according to the model, which provides thereby a reliable theoretical basis for the understanding and optimised design of such transducers. 展开更多
