College students compete in the National Standardization Olympiad

The finals of the “Mo Gan Shan” National Standardization Olympiad of College Students were held on October 12-13 in Huzhou city, Southeast China's Zhejiang province.The competition was guided by SAMR, and hosted by the China Association for Standardization(CAS), China Jiliang University, and the National Standardization League of Universities. Themed “Standards lead the future, innovation fulfills dreams”, the competition aims to stimulate college students' interest and enthusiasm for standardization knowledge, and cultivate standardization talents with international vision and innovation capability.

Standardization of meibomian gland dysfunction in an Egyptian population sample using a non-contact meibography technique

AIM:To develop normative data for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)parameters,using non-contact meibography technique of Sirius Costruzione Strumenti Oftalmici(CSO)machine,in an Egyptian population sample.METHODS:Observational,cross-sectional,analytic study,in which 104 Egyptian volunteers were included.Both upper lids were examined,using“Sirius CSO”machine.Each eyelid was given a degree of meibomian gland loss(MGL),which was calculated by the software of the machine.RESULTS:Mean percentage MGL in right upper lid was of 30.9%±12.6%,and that of left upper lid was 32.6%±11.8%.Thirty-four volunteers(32.7%)had first-degree MGL in their right upper lid,and 67.3%had second-degree loss.One volunteer(1%)had zero-degree MGL in left upper lid,28(26.9%)had first-degree loss,and 75(72.1%)had second-degree loss.Degree of MGL in right upper eyelid was not related to age,but degree of MGL in left upper eyelid increased with age.There was statistically significant difference between both genders for degree of MGL in right eye(P=0.036)and in left eye(P=0.027).CONCLUSION:Noncontact meibography is a useful non-invasive tool for diagnosing MGL.MGL is diagnosed in 100%of apparently normal individuals;26.9%-32.7%of which have first-degree MGL,and 67.3%-72.1%have second-degree MGL.

Sichuan province is home to rich traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)resources.Recent years have seen unremitting efforts of TCM standardization in the province.By analyzing the measures and existing problems,this paper provides recommendations to boost TCM development through standardization.

PDE Standardization Analysis and Solution of TypicalMechanics Problems

A numerical approach is an effective means of solving boundary value problems(BVPs).This study focuses on physical problems with general partial differential equations(PDEs).It investigates the solution approach through the standard forms of the PDE module in COMSOL.Two typical mechanics problems are exemplified:The deflection of a thin plate,which can be addressed with the dedicated finite element module,and the stress of a pure bending beamthat cannot be tackled.The procedure for the two problems regarding the three standard forms required by the PDE module is detailed.The results were in good agreement with the literature,indicating that the PDE module provides a promising means to solve complex PDEs,especially for those a dedicated finite element module has yet to be developed.

Analysis of standardization of community security fund management-Taking practice of community security fund management in Wuhou district of Chengdu as an example

The Chengdu community security funds refer to the special security funds for urban and rural community development and governance in Chengdu.At present,there are some problems in the use of community security funds,such as low participation of residents,and low efficiency of fund use.Taking the exploration of standardization of community security fund management in Wuhou district,Chengdu city,as an example,this paper suggests further strengthening the use and management of community security funds by means of standardization,ensuring the democratic,open,and transparent use of funds,and effectively enhancing the supporting role of community security funds in community governance.

A Critical Analysis of the Chinese Translation of“Zero Report”-Towards the Standardization of Terminology from the Perspective of Global Health Communication

The term“zero report,”an essential component of public health surveillance systems,is used to denote the reporting of zero cases of a specified disease during a given period.Its Chinese translation,“零报告”,has often been misinterpreted by the public as“no report”or“absence of report,”resulting in confusion and misinformation.This paper examines the linguistic and cultural factors contributing to this misinterpretation,exploring the semantic discrepancies between“zero”in English and“零”in Chinese.Using a mixed-methods approach that combines theoretical analysis and empirical survey data,the paper highlights the challenges of translating technical terminology across linguistic and cultural contexts.It also provides recommendations for improving the translation of“zero report”and other public health terms to ensure clear global communication.

Effects of King’s Theory of Goal Attainment Combined with Teach-Back Method on Improving Patients’ Standardization Rate of Eye Drop Use

Objective:To explore the effect of King’s Theory of Goal Attainment combined with teach-back method on improving the standardization rate of eye drop use in patients.Methods:A total of 200 patients who used more than two types of eye drops in the Department of Ophthalmology of our hospital were selected as the research subjects,and were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group.The control group was given routine health education,while the observation group was given King’s Theory of Goal Attainment combined with teach-back method on the basis of the control group.The standardization rate of eye drop use,knowledge awareness rate,and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention.Results:After the intervention,the standardization rate of eye drop use,the awareness rate of eye drop knowledge,and the nursing satisfaction of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:King’s Theory of Goal Attainment combined with teach-back method can effectively improve the standardization rate of eye drop use in patients,increase their awareness of eye drop knowledge,and improve nursing satisfaction,which is worthy of clinical application.

Comparative analysis of CPUE standardization of Chinese Pacific saury(Cololabis saira) fishery based on GLM and GAM

Pacific saury is an important high-seas fishery resource in the Northwest Pacific Ocean for the Chinese Mainland.Reliable and accurate catch per unit effort(CPUE)plays a significant rule in Pacific saury stock assessment.Many statistical models have been used in the previous CPUE standardization research.Here,we compare the performance of Generalized Linear Models(GLMs)and Generalized Additive Models(GAMs)using CPUE data collected from Chinese saury fishery in the Northwest Pacific Ocean from 2003 to 2017(excluding data from Chinese Taipei),and evaluate the influence of spatial,temporal,environmental variables and vessel length on CPUE.Optimal GLM/GAM models were selected using the Bayesian information criterion(BIC).Explained deviance and 5-fold bootstrap cross-validation results were used to compare the performance of the two model types.Fitted GLMs accounted for 21.57%of the total model-explained deviance,while GAMs accounted for 38.95%.Predictive performance metrics and 5-fold cross-validation results showed that the best GAM performed better than the best GLM.Therefore,we recommend GAM as the preferred model for standardizing CPUE of Pacific saury in the Northwest Pacific Ocean.

Multi-mode process monitoring based on a novel weighted local standardization strategy and support vector data description

There are multiple operating modes in the real industrial process, and the collected data follow the complex multimodal distribution, so most traditional process monitoring methods are no longer applicable because their presumptions are that sampled-data should obey the single Gaussian distribution or non-Gaussian distribution. In order to solve these problems, a novel weighted local standardization(WLS) strategy is proposed to standardize the multimodal data, which can eliminate the multi-mode characteristics of the collected data, and normalize them into unimodal data distribution. After detailed analysis of the raised data preprocessing strategy, a new algorithm using WLS strategy with support vector data description(SVDD) is put forward to apply for multi-mode monitoring process. Unlike the strategy of building multiple local models, the developed method only contains a model without the prior knowledge of multi-mode process. To demonstrate the proposed method's validity, it is applied to a numerical example and a Tennessee Eastman(TE) process. Finally, the simulation results show that the WLS strategy is very effective to standardize multimodal data, and the WLS-SVDD monitoring method has great advantages over the traditional SVDD and PCA combined with a local standardization strategy(LNS-PCA) in multi-mode process monitoring.

Standardization of CPUE for Chilean Jack Mackerel (Trachurus murphyi) from Chinese Trawl Fleets in the High Seas of the Southeast Pacific Ocean

The generalized linear model （GLM） and generalized additive model （GAM） were applied to the standardization of catch per unit effort （CPUE） for Chilean jack mackerel from Chinese factory trawl fishing fleets in the Southeast Pacific Ocean from 2001 to 2010 by removing the operational, environmental, spatial and temporal impacts. A total of 9 factors were selected to build the GLM and GAM, i.e., Year, Month, Vessel, La Nifia and E1 Nifio events （ELE）, Latitude, Longitude, Sea surface temperature （SST）, SST anomaly （SSTA）, Nino3.4 index and an interaction term between Longitude and Latitude. The first 5 factors were significant components in the GLM, which in combination explained 27.34% of the total variance in nominal CPUE. In the stepwise GAM, all factors explained 30.78% of the total variance, with Month, Year and Vessel as the main factors influencing CPUE. The higher CPUE occurred during the period April to July at a SST range of 12-15℃ and a SSTA range of 0.2-1.0℃. The CPUE was significantly higher in normal years compared with that in La Nifia and E1 Nifio years. The abundance of Chilean jack mackerel declined during 2001 and 2010, with an increase in 2007. This work provided the relative abundance index of Chilean jack mackerel for stock as- sessment by standardizing catch and effort data of Chinese trawl fisheries and examined the influence of temporal, spatial, environ- mental and fisheries operational factors on Chilean jack mackerel CPUE.

Improved Measurement Performance of Inorganic Elements in Coal by Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Coupled with Internal Standardization

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy was employed to determine the inorganic elements in coal. To improve the measurement＇s accuracy and precision, a new internal standardization scheme, which we named changed internal standardization, was compared with the traditional internal standardization and no internal standardization for the analysis of inorganic elements. The new internal standardization scheme used the atomic line of carbon at 247.86 nm and the molecular band of CN at 388.34 nm and C2 at 516.32 nm to normalize the lines of inorganic elements that were distributed in the same spectral channel. The performance of the utilization of the new internal standardization scheme was evaluated using a set of coal samples, including twenty calibration samples and five validation samples. The results show that the coefficients of determination R2 and the slope of calibration models coupled with changed internal standard- ization are better than that of the calibration models coupled with fixed internal standardization and no internal standardization. Moreover, the measurement accuracy and reproducibility of changed internal standardization for the analysis of five validation samples also yielded further improvement. The results that we obtained suggest that changed internal standardization could compensate for the matrix effects, as well as the influence of the difference in the spectral response of the light collection system.

Balancing the customization and standardization:exploration and layout surrounding the regulation of the growing field of 3D-printed medical devices in China

Medical devices are instruments and other tools that act on the human body to aid clinical diagnosis and disease treatment,playing an indispensable role in modern medicine.Nowadays,the increasing demand for personalized medical devices poses a significant challenge to traditional manufacturing methods.The emerging manufacturing technology of three-dimensional(3D)printing as an alternative has shown exciting applications in the medical field and is an ideal method for manufacturing such personalized medical devices with complex structures.However,the application of this new technology has also brought new risks to medical devices,making 3D-printed devices face severe challenges due to insufficient regulation and the lack of standards to provide guidance to the industry.This review aims to summarize the current regulatory landscape and existing research on the standardization of 3D-printed medical devices in China,and provide ideas to address these challenges.We focus on the aspects concerned by the regulatory authorities in 3D-printed medical devices,highlighting the quality system of such devices,and discuss the guidelines that manufacturers should follow,as well as the current limitations and the feasible path of regulation and standardization work based on this perspective.The key points of the whole process quality control,performance evaluation methods and the concept of whole life cycle management of 3D-printed medical devices are emphasized.Furthermore,the significance of regulation and standardization is pointed out.Finally,aspects worthy of attention and future perspectives in this field are discussed.

Improved EEMD-based standardization method for developing long tree-ring chronologies

Long tree-ring chronologies can be developed by overlapping data from living trees with data from fossil trees through cross-dating.However,low-frequency climate signals are lost when standardizing tree-ring series due to the"segment length curse".To alleviate the segment length curse and thus improve the standardization method for developing long tree-ring chronologies,here we first calculated a mean value for all the tree ring series by overlapping all of the tree ring series.The growth trend of the mean tree ring width(i.e.,cumulated average growth trend of all the series)was determined using ensemble empirical mode decomposition.Then the chronology was developed by dividing the mean value by the growth trend of the mean value.Our improved method alleviated the problem of trend distortion.Long-term signals were better preserved using the improved method than in previous detrending methods.The chronologies developed using the improved method were better correlated with climate than those developed using conservative methods.The improved standardization method alleviates trend distortion and retains more of the low-frequency climate signals.

Standardization of Fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet

Fieldbus and industrial Ethernet standards can guide the specification andcoordinate bus optimization. The standards are the basis for the development of field-bus and industrial Ethernet. In this paper, we review complex standard systems allover the world. We discuss 18 fieldbus standards, including the International Electro-technical Commission(IEC) 61158, the IEC 61784 standard matched with IEC 61158,the controller and device interface standard IEC 62026 for low voltage distributionand control devices, and the International Organization for Standardization(ISO)11898 and ISO 11519 standards related to the controller area network(CAN) bus. Wealso introduce the standards of China, Europe, Japan and America. This paper pro-vides a reference to develop fieldbus and industrial Ethernet products for Chinese en-terprises.

Potential Impact of Mobile Phone Charger Standardization in China

The standardization of mobile phone charger is proceeding steadily in Europe. This paper makes a quantitative analysis on the potential impact of this move in China. The demands for mobile handset and phone charger in China after the introduction of standardization are predicted based on Bass diffusion model. The results indicate that the standardization would have little influence on mobile phone producers, but may charger makers face a fierce turbulence. Standardization would not only reduce the size of charger market, but also change the stable demand to a fluctuating pattern. Standardization of mobile phone charger can contribute to green economy greatly and provide the ICT industry a directive signal for green innovation in the future. Finally, suggestions for policy makers are provided based on the analysis.
