The various regressions and models may each provide excellent agreement for the depth of penetration into semi-infinite targets. But the input parameters for the empirically based procedures may have little in common with either the analytical model or the numerical model. This paper builds on previous work by Riegel and Anderson(2014) to show how the Effective Flow Stress(EFS) strength model, based on empirical data, can be used as the average flow stress in the analytical Walker–Anderson Penetration model(WAPEN)(Anderson and Walker,1991) and how the same value may be utilized as an effective von Mises yield strength in numerical hydrocode simulations to predict the depth of penetration for eroding projectiles at impact velocities in the mechanical response regime of the materials. The method has the benefit of allowing the three techniques(empirical, analytical, and numerical) to work in tandem. The empirical method can be used for many shot line calculations, but more advanced analytical or numerical models can be employed when necessary to address specific geometries such as edge effects or layering that are not treated by the simpler methods. Developing complete constitutive relationships for a material can be costly. If the only concern is depth of penetration, such a level of detail may not be required. The effective flow stress can be determined from a small set of depth of penetration experiments in many cases, especially for long penetrators such as the L/D = 10 ones considered here, making it a very practical approach. In the process of performing this effort, the authors considered numerical simulations by other researchers based on the same set of experimental data that the authors used for their empirical and analytical assessment. The goals were to establish a baseline with a full constitutive model and to determine if the EFS could be estimated from a standardized constitutive model. We were unable to accomplish this.Several papers detailing simulations using the Johnson–Cook(JC) constitutive model were located and used as a basis for comparison. The authors were somewhat surprised to find that the JC parameters employed in those studies were not actually developed for the target materials that were evaluated experimentally. More disconcerting was the fact that a number of different sets of JC parameters were published for presumably the same material. Although not intended to be a critique of the JC model, this research raises a serious concern regarding the manner in which the model has been applied to terminal ballistics problems. The details of the study are included in this paper because the authors believe it helps put the discussion of EFS into proper context.展开更多

Many researchers have studied the slope displacement based on field data from the inclinometer in combination with complicated numerical analysis. They found that there was a shear zone above the slip surface, and they usually focused on the distribution of velocity and displacement within the shear zone. In this paper, two simple methods are proposed to analyze the distribution of displacement and velocity along the whole profile of a slope from the slip surface to the slope surface during slow movement. In the empirical method, the slope soil above the shear zone is assumed as a rigid body. Dual or triple piecewise fitting functions are empirically proposed for the distribution of velocity along the profile of a slope. In the analytical method, the slope soil is not assumed as a rigid body but as a deformable material. Continuous functions of the velocity and displacement along the profile of a slope are directly obtained by solving the Newton's equation of motion associated with the Bingham model. Using the two proposed methods respectively, the displacement and velocity along the slope profiles of three slopes are determined. A reasonable agreement between the measured data and the calculated results of the two proposed methods has been reached. In comparison with the empirical method, the analytical method would be more beneficial for slope deformation analysis in slope engineering, because the parameters are material constants in the analytical solution independent of time t, and the nonlinear viscosity of the soil can be considered.展开更多

It reflects postgraduates’ research achievements and the educational quality of an institute, even a country. To construct an optimized quality evaluation system for postgraduate dissertation (QESPD), we summarized the influencing factors and invited 10 experienced specialists to rate and prioritize them based on fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. Four primary indicators (innovation, integrity, scientificity and normativity) and 16 sub-indicators were selected to form the evaluation system. The order of primary indicators by weight, was innovation (0.4269), scientificity (0.2807), integrity (0.1728) and normativity (0.1196). The top five sub-dimensions were theoretical originality, scientific value, data reliability, design rationality and evidence credibility. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system, a case study was performed. In the case study, it was demonstrated that the established two-index-hierarchy QESPD in this study was a more scientific and reasonable evaluation system worthy of promotion and application.展开更多

AI brings gamechanging approaches for soccer analytics where soccer has been a typical benchmark for AI research. The combination has been an emerging topic. In this paper, soccer match analytics are taken as a complete observation-orientation-decision-action(OODA) loop.In addition, as in AI frameworks such as that for reinforcement learning, interacting with a virtual environment enables an evolving model. Therefore, both soccer analytics in the real world and virtual domains are discussed. With the intersection of the OODA loop and the real-virtual domains, available soccer data, including event and tracking data, and diverse orientation and decisionmaking models for both real-world and virtual soccer matches are comprehensively reviewed. Finally, some promising directions in this interdisciplinary area are pointed out. It is claimed that paradigms for both professional sports analytics and AI research could be combined. Moreover, it is quite promising to bridge the gap between the real and virtual domains for soccer match analysis and decision-making.展开更多

文摘A series of direct shear tests under constant normal loading conditions were carried out on specimens of bolted sandstone single-joint treated with different numbers of dryewet cycles. The experimental results show that the peak shear strength and shear stiffness of bolted sandstone joints were significantly reduced after 12 dryewet cycles. The decrease in the shear strength of rough joints is more significant than that of flat joints.Due to the decrease in the strength of the surrounding rock, the deformation characteristics of the bolts are significantly affected by the number of dryewet cycles performed. With an increase in the number of dryewet cycles, the plastic hinge length of the bolt gradually increases, resulting in an increase in the corresponding shear displacement when the bolt breaks.Compared with the tensileeshear failure mode of the bolts in flat joints, the tensileebending failure mode arises for bolts in rough joints.A shear curve model describing the whole process of bolted rock joints is established based on the deterioration of rock mechanical parameters caused by dry‒wet cycles. The model proposed considers the change in the friction angle of the joint surface with the shear displacement, which is applied to the derivation of the model by introducing the dynamic evolutionary friction angle parameter. The reasonably good agreement between a predicted curve and the corresponding experimental curve indicates that this method can effectively predict the shear strength of a bolted rock joint involving rough joint under dryewet cycling conditions.

文摘To date, few models are available in the literature to consider the creep behavior of geosynthetics when predicting the lateral deformation(d)of geosynthetics-reinforced soil(GRS)retaining walls. In this study,a general hyperbolic creep model was first introduced to describe the long-term deformation of geosynthetics, which is a function of elapsed time and two empirical parameters a and b.The conventional creep tests with three different tensile loads(Pr)were conducted on two uniaxial geogrids to determine their creep behavior,as well as the a-Pr and b-Pr relationships. The test results show that increasing Pr accelerates the development of creep deformation for both geogrids.Meanwhile,a and b respectively show exponential and negatively linear relationships with Pr,which were confirmed by abundant experimental data available in other studies.Based on the above creep model and relationships,an accurate and reliable analytical model was then proposed for predicting the time-dependent d of GRS walls with modular block facing, which was further validated using a relevant numerical investigation from the previous literature.Performance evaluation and comparison of the proposed model with six available prediction models were performed. Then a parametric study was carried out to evaluate the effects of wall height, vertical spacing of geogrids, unit weight and internal friction angle of backfills, and factor of safety against pullout on d at the end of construction and 5 years afterwards. The findings show that the creep effect not only promotes d but also raises the elevation of the maximum d along the wall height. Finally, the limitations and application prospects of the proposed model were discussed and analyzed.

文摘Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)has become a widely used atomic spectroscopic technique for rapid coal analysis. However, the vast amount of spectral information in LIBS contains signal uncertainty, which can affect its quantification performance. In this work,we propose a hybrid variable selection method to improve the performance of LIBS quantification.Important variables are first identified using Pearson's correlation coefficient, mutual information, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)and random forest, and then filtered and combined with empirical variables related to fingerprint elements of coal ash content.Subsequently, these variables are fed into a partial least squares regression(PLSR).Additionally,in some models, certain variables unrelated to ash content are removed manually to study the impact of variable deselection on model performance. The proposed hybrid strategy was tested on three LIBS datasets for quantitative analysis of coal ash content and compared with the corresponding data-driven baseline method. It is significantly better than the variable selection only method based on empirical knowledge and in most cases outperforms the baseline method. The results showed that on all three datasets the hybrid strategy for variable selection combining empirical knowledge and data-driven algorithms achieved the lowest root mean square error of prediction(RMSEP)values of 1.605,3.478 and 1.647,respectively,which were significantly lower than those obtained from multiple linear regression using only 12 empirical variables, which are 1.959,3.718 and 2.181,respectively.The LASSO-PLSR model with empirical support and 20 selected variables exhibited a significantly improved performance after variable deselection, with RMSEP values dropping from 1.635,3.962 and 1.647 to 1.483,3.086 and 1.567,respectively.Such results demonstrate that using empirical knowledge as a support for datadriven variable selection can be a viable approach to improve the accuracy and reliability of LIBS quantification.
文摘Normalizable analytic solutions of the quantum rotor problem with divergent potential are presented here as solution of the Schrödinger equation. These solutions, unknown to the literature, represent a mathematical advance in the description of physical phenomena described by the second derivative operator associated with a divergent interaction potential and, being analytical, guarantee the optimal interpretation of such phenomena.

文摘The precise correction of atmospheric zenith tropospheric delay(ZTD)is significant for the Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)performance regarding positioning accuracy and convergence time.In the past decades, many empirical ZTD models based on whether the gridded or scattered ZTD products have been proposed and widely used in the GNSS positioning applications. But there is no comprehensive evaluation of these models for the whole China region, which features complicated topography and climate. In this study,we completely assess the typical empirical models, the IGGtropSH model(gridded,non-meteorology),the SHAtropE model(scattered,non-meteorology),and the GPT3 model(gridded, meteorology)using the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China(CMONOC)network. In general, the results show that the three models share consistent performance with RMSE/bias of 37.45/1.63,37.13/2.20,and 38.27/1.34 mm for the GPT3,SHAtropE and IGGtropSH model, respectively. However, the models had a distinct performance regarding geographical distribution, elevation, seasonal variations, and daily variation. In the southeastern region of China,RMSE values are around 50 mm,which are much higher than that in the western region, approximately 20 mm.The SHAtropE model exhibits better performance for areas with large variations in elevation. The GPT3 model and the IGGtropSH model are more stable across different months, and the SHAtropE model based on the GNSS data exhibits superior performance across various UTC epochs.

文摘The layout forms of several breakwater structures can be generalized as asymmetrical arrangements in actual engineering. However, the problem of wave diffraction around asymmetrically arranged breakwaters has not been adequately investigated. In this study,we propose an analytical method of wave diffraction for regular waves passing through asymmetrically arranged breakwaters, and we use the Nyström method to obtain the analytical solution numerically. We compared the results of this method with those of previous analytical solutions and with numerical results to demonstrate the validity of our approach. We also provided diffraction coefficient diagrams of breakwaters with different layout forms. Moreover,we described the analytical expression for the problem of diffraction through long-wave incident breakwaters and presented an analysis of the relationship between the diffraction coefficients and the widths of breakwater gates. The analytical method presented in this study contributes to the limited literature on the theory of wave diffraction through asymmetrically arranged breakwaters.
文摘A dissertation is a research report or scientific paper written by an author to obtain a certain degree. In the case study, it was demonstrated that the established two-index-hierarchy QESPD in this study was a more scientific and reasonable evaluation system worthy of promotion and application.

文摘In regard to unconventional oil reservoirs, the transient dual-porosity and triple-porosity models have been adopted to describe the fluid flow in the complex fracture network. It has been proven to cause inaccurate production evaluations because of the absence of matrix-macrofracture communication. In addition, most of the existing models are solved analytically based on Laplace transform and numerical inversion.Hence,an approximate analytical solution is derived directly in real-time space considering variable matrix blocks and simultaneous matrix depletion. To simplify the derivation, the simultaneous matrix depletion is divided into two parts:one part feeding the macrofractures and the other part feeding the microfractures. Then,a series of partial differential equations(PDEs)describing the transient flow and boundary conditions are constructed and solved analytically by integration. Finally,a relationship between oil rate and production time in real-time space is obtained. The new model is verified against classical analytical models. When the microfracture system and matrix-macrofracture communication is neglected, the result of the new model agrees with those obtained with the dual-porosity and triple-porosity model, respectively.Certainly, the new model also has an excellent agreement with the numerical model. The model is then applied to two actual tight oil wells completed in western Canada sedimentary basin. After identifying the flow regime, the solution suitably matches the field production data, and the model parameters are determined.Through these output parameters,we can accurately forecast the production and even estimate the petrophysical properties.

文摘An anisotropic diffusion filter can be used to model a flow-dependent background error covariance matrix, which can be achieved by solving the advection-diffusion equation.Because of the directionality of the advection term, the discrete method needs to be chosen very carefully. The finite analytic method is an alternative scheme to solve the advection-diffusion equation. As a combination of analytical and numerical methods,it not only has high calculation accuracy but also holds the characteristic of the auto upwind. To demonstrate its ability, the one-dimensional steady and unsteady advection-diffusion equation numerical examples are respectively solved by the finite analytic method. The more widely used upwind difference method is used as a control approach. The result indicates that the finite analytic method has higher accuracy than the upwind difference method. For the two-dimensional case, the finite analytic method still has a better performance. In the three-dimensional variational assimilation experiment, the finite analytic method can effectively improve analysis field accuracy, and its effect is significantly better than the upwind difference and the central difference method. Moreover,it is still a more effective solution method in the strong flow region where the advective-diffusion filter performs most prominently.

文摘Due to ever-growing soccer data collection approaches and progressing artificial intelligence(AI) methods, soccer analysis, evaluation, and decision-making have received increasing interest from not only the professional sports analytics realm but also the academic AI research community. Moreover, it is quite promising to bridge the gap between the real and virtual domains for soccer match analysis and decision-making.

文摘Two soy protein 11S fractions with different surface sulfhydryl contents were prepared.Utilizing analytical ultracentrifugation, the effects of storage time and hydrogen peroxide at different concentrations(0.5-100 mmol/L)on the two 11S fractions were investigated. Results show that after removing 2-mercaptoethanol(2-ME)by size exclusion chromatography, the 11S fraction with high surface sulfhydryl content(2.0 mol sulfhydryl/mol 11S)progressively formed 15S and 21S in dilute solutions during storage at 4℃ for 82 days. While, the 11s fraction with low surface sulfhydryl content(0.2 mol sulfhydryl/mol 11S)was stable under the same condition. Moreover, after treating the 11s with high surface sulfhydryl content with 1 mmol/L H_(2)O_(2),the weight percentage of 15S reached the maximum value of 20%.The 15S induced by air and H_(2)O_(2)could be totally converted to 11S with the addition of 10 mmol/L 2-ME,which could be attributed to that the disulfide bond linking two 11S molecules is on the surface of the 15S and easily accessible to the reducing agent 2-ME.This study helps us to deeply understand the formation mechanism of 15S and the stability of 11S.

文摘The utilization of stone columns has emerged as a popular ground improvement strategy, whereas the drainage performance can be adversely hampered by clogging effect.Despite the ample progress of calculation methods for the consolidation of stone column-improved ground, theoretical investigations into the clogging effect have not been thoroughly explored.Furthermore,it is imperative to involve the column consolidation deformation to mitigate computational error on the consolidation of composite ground with high replacement ratios. In this context,an analytical model accounting for the initial clogging and coupled time and depth-dependent clogging of stone columns is established. Then, the resulting governing equations and analytical solutions are obtained under a new flow continuity relationship to incorporate column consolidation deformation. The accuracy and reliability of the proposed model are illustrated by degradation analysis and case studies with good agreements.Subsequently, the computed results of the current study are juxtaposed against the existing models, and an in-depth assessment of the impacts of several crucial parameters on the consolidation behavior is conducted. The results reveal that ignoring column consolidation deformation leads to an overestimate of the consolidation rate, with maximum error reaching up to 16%as the replacement ratio increases.Furthermore, the initial clogging also has a significant influence on the consolidation performance.Additionally, the increment of depth and time-clogging factors a and b will induce a noticeable retardation of the consolidation process, particularly in the later stage.
