There is a principal difference between the computer proof and the computer derivation completed by the computer, also difference between the numerical and symbolic calculations. In this investigation the computational analytical approach is extended, and an unsteady flow of non-Newtonian fluid in the gap between two rotating coaxial cylinders is studied. The Oldroyd fluid B model is used by which the Weissenberg effects are explained in a good comparison with the experiments. The governing equations are reduced to a partial differential equation of 3 rd order for the dimensionless velocity. Using the computer software Macsyma and an improved variational approach the problem with the initial and boundary conditions is then reduced to a problem of an ordinary differential equation for different approximations. The analytical solutions are given for the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd approximations. The present investigation shows the ability of the computational symbolic manipulation in solving the problems of non-Newtonian fluid flows. There is a possibility of that to solve the problems in mathematics and mechanics. An important conclusion can be drawn from the results that the transition from a steady state to another steady state is non-unique.展开更多

The cluster structures of supercritical fluids in general and Carbon Dioxide especially are important for the advanced supercritical fluid technologies and analytics development. The paper extends to near critical densities the developed earlier methods to extract the clusters’ properties from Online Electronic Database of NIST on thermophysical properties of fluids. This Database contains a hidden knowledge of cluster fractions’ properties in real gases. The discovered earlier linear chain clusters dominate at intermediate densities. Their properties can be extrapolated to high density gases, thus opening the way to study large 3D clusters in near critical zone. The potential energy density of a gas, cleared from the chain clusters’ contribution, reflects only the 3D clusters’ characteristics. A series expansion of this value by the Monomer Fraction density discovers properties of n-particle 3D clusters. The paper demonstrates a discrete row of 3D clusters’ particle numbers and gives estimations for bond energies of these clusters.展开更多

An upward-moving wetting front from the confined water was assumed and the pore water pressure distribution was then estimated and used to obtain the analytical expression of FS. Then, the validation of the theoretical analysis was applied based on an actual case in Hong Kong. It is shown that the presence of a confined aquifer leads to a lower FS value, and the impact rate of hydrostatic pressure on FS increases as the confined water pressure increases, approaching to a maximum value determined by the ratio of water density to saturated soil density. It is also presented that the contribution of hydrostatic pressure and hydrodynamic pressure to the slope stability vary with the confined aquifer pressure.展开更多

Analytic expressions for the Helmholtz free energy, internal energy and equation of state of solid oxygen have been derived based on the multi-exponential potential. The formulism for the case of double-exponential (DE) model is applied to the ε phase of solid oxygen. Its four potential parameters are determined through fitting the experimental compression data of the ε phase of solid oxygen. Numerical results of the pressure dependence of the volume calculated by using the AMFP are in good agreement with the original experimental data. This suggests that the AMFP is a useful approach to study the thermodynamic properties of the ε phase of solid oxygen. Furthermore, we predict the variation of the volume, lattice parameters and intermolecular distances with pressure, and some thermodynamic quantities versus volume, at several higher temperatures.展开更多

The mathematical models of these systems are governed by second--order nonlinear partial differential equations. Nonlinear differential equations were transferred into a single equation by using some intermediate variables. The single nonlinear differential equations are solved by using the first order of the Hamiltonian approach (HA). Different parameters, which have a significant impact on the response of the systems, are considered and discussed. Some comparisons are presented to verify the results between the Hamiltonian approach and the exact solution. The maximum relative error is less than 2.2124 % for large amplitudes of vibration. It has been established that the first iteration of the Hamiltonian approach achieves very accurate results, does not require any small perturbations, and can be used for a wide range of nonlinear problems.展开更多

Two different polystyrene materials were utilized as deformable inclusions.Lateral dynamic earth pressures and wall displacements at different elevations of the retaining wallmodel were monitored during the tests. The earth pressures and displacements of the retaining wallswith deformable inclusions were compared with those of the models without geofoam inclusions.Comparisons indicated that geofoam panels of low stiffness installed against the retaining wall modelaffect displacement and dynamic lateral pressure profile along the wall height. Depending on the inclusioncharacteristics and the wall flexibility, up to 50% reduction in dynamic earth pressures wasobserved. The efficiency of load and displacement reduction decreased as the flexibility ratio of the wallmodel increased. On the other hand, dynamic load reduction efficiency of the deformable inclusionincreased as the amplitude and frequency ratio of the seismic excitation increased. Relative flexibility ofthe deformable layer (the thickness and the elastic stiffness of the polystyrene material) played animportant role in the amount of load reduction. Dynamic earth pressure coefficients were compared withthose calculated with an analytical approach. Pressure coefficients calculated with this method werefound to be in good agreement with the results of the tests performed on the wall model having lowflexibility ratio. It was observed that deformable inclusions reduce residual wall stresses observed at theend of seismic excitation thus contributing to the post-earthquake stability of the retaining wall. Thegraphs presented within this paper regarding the dynamic earth pressure coefficients versus the wallflexibility and inclusion characteristics may serve for the seismic design of full-scale retaining walls withdeformable polystyrene inclusions. 2014 Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The formulation herein proposed extends wellknown aerodynamic theories, which are limited to thin aerofoils in incompressible flow, to generic trapezoidal wing planforms. Firstly, a thorough study is executed to assess the accuracy and limitation of analytical predictions, using unsteady results from two state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics solvers as cross-validated benchmarks. Indicial functions are calculated for a step change in the angle of attack and for a sharp-edge gust, each for four wing configurations and three Mach numbers. Then, analytical and computational indicial responses are used to predict dynamic derivatives and the maximum lift coefficient following an encounter with a one-minus-cosine gust. It is found that the analytical results are in excellent agreement with the computational results for all test cases. In particular, the deviation of the analytical results from the computational results is within the scatter or uncertainty in the data arising from using two computational fluid dynamics solvers. This indicates the usefulness of the developed analytical theories.展开更多

文摘In this paper, we obtain the quantitative bound of the exponential convergence rates of Markov chains under a weaken minorization condition, using the coupling method and the analytic approach. And also, we obtain the convergence rates for continuous time Markov processes.
