Heat transport properties within living biological tissues with temperature-dependent thermal properties

Understanding of the heat transport within living biological tissues is crucial to effective heat treatments. The heat transport properties of living biological tissues with temperature-dependent properties are explored in this paper. Taking into account of variable physical properties, the governing equation of temperature is first derived in the context of the dualphase-lags model(DPL). An effective method, according to the Laplace transform and a linearization technique, is then employed to solve this nonlinear governing equation. The temperature distribution of a biological tissue exposed to a pulsed heat flux on its exterior boundary, which frequently happens in various heat treatments, is predicted and analyzed. The results state that a lower temperature can be predicted when temperature dependence is considered in the heating process.The contributions of key thermal parameters are different and dependent on the ratio of phase lag and the amplitude of the exterior pulsed heat flux. 展开更多

Eco-friendly Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) with green aqueous-organic mobile phase was applied for the simultaneous determination of febuxostat (FEB) and diclofenac (DIC) with the composition of water:ethanol (85:15<span> </span>v/v) utilizing phenomenex Kinetex C<sub>18</sub> column (4.6 × 100 mm 2.6 μm), flow rate 1 ml/min and<b><span> </span></b>UV detection at 280 nm<b><span> </span></b>with linear ranges of 0.4 - 4.0 μg/mL and 0.5 - 5.0 μg/mL for FEB and DIC, respectively. The proposed method was also successfully applied to analyze the two drugs in pharmaceutical dosage form and human plasma. The results obtained were validated and statistically analyzed and found to be in accordance with those given by reported methods. Moreover, the greenness of the developed method is assessed using suitable analytical Eco-Scale and GAPI tools<b><span> </span></b>and comparison with the previously published methods have been carried out to indicate the priority of the proposed method. As a new technique in ground improvement, geosynthetic-encased columns (GECs) have promising applications in soft soil foundation. By assuming yielding occurs in the columns while the surrounding soil and the geosynthetic remain elastic, an elastoplastic analytical procedure for foundations improved by GECs is proposed. The radial stresses that the geosynthetic provides and the elastoplastic deformations of the foundation resting on a rigid base are derived. A comparison with finite element analysis shows that the proposed method is effective and can provide a reasonable prediction of a GEC's deformation. Subsequent parametric analysis indicates that higher geosynthetic stiffness leads to better performance of the composite foundation. The optimum length of encasement is related to the load acting on the foundation and the permissible vertical and radial displacements of the column. Moreover, as the dilation angle of the column increases, the settlement decreases, especially under high loading. The influence of the encasement is more significant in soils with smaller elastic modulus. 展开更多

This paper studies the effects of integrating four inventory classification methods into constant work-in-process(CONWIP)systems in a multistage batch production.The inventory classification methods are multiple closed-loop CONWIP(MCC),parallel CONWIP(PC),analytical hierarchy procedure,and weighted linear optimization(WLO).Discrete-event simulation models were built.A full-factorial experimental design was employed.Response surface methodology generated suitable regression models for performance comparison of different ABC analysis methods.In the second stage of experiment,the ABC analysis methods from the first stage were fine-tuned and compared.PC and WLO are the most preferred methods because of higher total outputs,lower work-in-process levels,and shorter flow times compared with the other two methods.However,the revenue accrued through WLO is higher than that accrued via PC.This study complements existing literature on price setting in manufacturing organizations by delineating classification of finished goods based on both exogenous and production factors. 展开更多
