The Current Situation and Development of Chinese Animated Films:Taking Ne Zha as an Example

Taking Ne Zha as an example,this paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of Chinese animated films at the presentstage.Under the condition of both opportunities and challenges,some measures to develop Chinese animated films are proposed.

Influence of mobile education on joint function and quality of life in patients after total hip arthroplasty

Objective：To explore the influence of applying educational animated film as continuous post-discharge rehabilitation guidance for patients after total hip arthroplasty（THA）.Methods：Sixty patients discharged after THA were randomly divided into two groups.Traditional methods,such as distributing manuals of rehabilitation guidance on THA and phone call follow-ups,were adopted in the control group,whereas educational animated film was used as continuous rehabilitation guidance after discharge in the experimental group.Differences in recovery of hip joint function,accuracy of functional exercise,mastery of rehabilitation knowledge and quality of life between the two groups were compared.Results：The experimental group had superior performance on all indicators compared to the control group（P〈0.05）.Conclusions：The use of educational animated film as continuous post-discharge rehabilitation guidance in patients after THA achieved better effects than traditional education methods.

Happiness and Are You Lost in the World Like Me? A Brief Philosophical Analysis of Steve Cutts‟ Animated Films

Steve Cutts is a young English illustrator/producer who,despite being 25 or 26 years old,has already worked for large multinationals such as Sony,Toyota or Coca-Cola.His genius is evident not only because of his natural talent for drawing,but also because he uses simple programs like Adobe Flash or After Effects to create his animations,and the result surprises us.And it surprises us with the satirical,daring,carefree and ironic tone with which it presents the human universe,with its ambitions,desires,sadness,miseries.This paper examines two of his animated films,and explores a philosophical vision about the hypermodern society and the myth of happiness.

The Analysis of Color Narration of Animated Film Ne Zha

Color has an intuitive expression of the material world,and is often used by creators of animated films in the narrative process of the film to express a creator’s subjective feelings.Color narration is a special mental imagination activity.It mainly refers to human beings perceiving colors in the external environment,and judging by their own rich life experience,and finally achieving a comprehensive cognition of external things.The animated film Ne Zha has attracted the attention of the audience since its release.That is because the film uses color narration ingeniously to innovate traditional stories and familiar characters,it displays the story through shocking visual expression,so that the audience can feel the influence of traditional culture while understanding the story,reflecting the unique artistic charm of color narration.This paper analyzes three aspects of color narration in showing the binary oppositions of goodness and evil,portraying vivid characters,promoting the development of narration,and highlighting the tension of the film,and fully expounds the importance of color narration in animated films.

In the light of exchanges of international media,people attach greater importance to the translation of TV and film.Subti⁃tle translation of film is not only a simple transformation between languages,but also a communication between cultures.When we render culture in subtitles,there are two translation strategies that can not be avoided,namely,Domestication and Foreignization.Domestication is a translation strategy that conforms to the habits of language used in target language,while foreignization main⁃tains the exotic features of the source language.Nowadays,translation analysis is no longer limited to text,more and more attention is given to the cultural background and its extralinguistic cultural references.This paper will analyze the subtitles of Zootopia and investigate the role of Domestication and Foreignization in animated films.

A multimodal analysis of Piggyvest's animated advertisement videos

This study examines the persuasive strategies in selected animated advertisement videos by Piggyvest,the first and one of the fastest-growing online savings platforms in Nigeria,whose modus operandi is quite different from those of the conventional banking system.Drawing insights from Kress and van Leeuwen's(2006.Reading images:The grammar of visual design,2nd edn.New York:Routledge)Multimodal Discourse Analytic framework,12 samples of Piggyvest's animated videos(for advertisements)were randomly sampled out of the 30 videos initially purposively sampled.Findings reveal metaphorisation of financial management and discipline,playing around gender-related ideas on finances,foregrounding of aspirations and financial decisions,depiction of cognitive strength and weakness on money matters,and striking a connection between money and relationships are persuasive strategies deployed in the animated advertisement videos by Piggyvest to appeal to their target audience.

Technical and conceptual considerations forusing animated stimuli in studies of animalbehavior

Rapid technical advances in the field of computeropened new avenues in animal behavior research.animation （CA） and virtual reality （VR） haveAnimated stimuli are powerful tools as theyoffer standardization, repeatability, and complete control over the stimulus presented, thereby＂reducing＂ and ＂replacing＂ the animals used, and ＂refining＂ the experimental design in line withthe 3Rs. However, appropriate use of these technologies raises conceptual and technical questions.In this review, we offer guidelines for common technical and conceptual considerations related tothe use of animated stimuli in animal behavior research. Following the steps required to create ananimated stimulus, we discuss （I） the creation, （11） the presentation, and （111） the validation of CAsand VRs. Although our review is geared toward computer-graphically designed stimuli, consider-ations on presentation and validation also apply to video playbacks. CA and VR allow both new be-havioral questions to be addressed and existing questions to be addressed in new ways, thus weexpect a rich future for these methods in both ultimate and proximate studies of animal behavior.

Computer animations of color markings revealthe function of visual threat signals inNeolamprologus pulcher

Visual signals, including changes in coloration and color patterns, are frequently used by animalsto convey information. During contests, body coloration and its changes can be used to assess anopponent＇s state or motivation. Communication of aggressive propensity is particularly importantin group-living animals with a stable dominance hierarchy, as the outcome of aggressive inter-actions determines the social rank of group members. Neolamprologus pulcher is a cooperativelybreeding cichlid showing frequent within-group aggression. Both sexes exhibit two vertical blackstripes on the operculum that vary naturally in shape and darkness. During frontal threat displaysthese patterns are actively exposed to the opponent, suggesting a signaling function. To investi-gate the role of operculum stripes during contests we manipulated their darkness in computeranimated pictures of the fish. We recorded the responses in behavior and stripe darkness of testsubjects to which these animated pictures were presented. Individuals with initially darker stripeswere more aggressive against the animations and showed more operculum threat displays.Operculum stripes of test subjects became darker after exposure to an animation exhibiting a paleoperculum than after exposure to a dark operculum animation, highlighting the role of the dark-ness of this color pattern in opponent assessment. We conclude that （i） the black stripes on theoperculum of N. pulcherare a reliable signal of aggression and dominance, （ii） these markings playan important role in opponent assessment, and （iii） 2D computer animations are well suited to elicitbiologically meaningful short-term aggressive responses in this widely used model system ofsocial evolution.

Animated images in the analysis of zebrafish behavior

This invited review is based upon a recent oral paper I presented at the Virtual Reality Symposiumof the 34th International Ethological Conference （2015, Cairns, Australia）, and as such it describesstudies conducted mainly in my own laboratory. It reviews how we utilized visual stimuli for induc-ing behavioral responses in the zebrafish with a focus on shoaling, group forming behavior. Thezebrafish is gaining increasing popularity in neuroscience. With this interest, its behavior is alsomore frequently studied. One of the many advantages of the zebrafish over traditional laboratoryrodents is that this species is diurnal, and it relies heavily upon its visual system. Thus, similarly toour own species, zebrafish respond to visual stimuli in a robust and easily quantifiable manner. Forthe past decade, we have been exploring how to use such visual stimuli, and have developed nu-merous paradigms with which we can induce and quantify a variety of behavioral responses,including shoaling. This review summarizes some of these studies, and discusses questions includ-ing whether one should use live fish as stimulus, whether and how one could present animated（moving images） of fish, and how one could optimize a range of stimulus presentation parametersto elicit the most robust responses in zebrafish. Although the zebrafish is a relative newcomer inethology and behavioral neuroscience, and although many of our findings only represent the firststeps in this research, our results suggest that the behavioral analysis of the zebrafish will have animportant place in biomedical research.

A Study of Animated Transition in Similarity-Based Tiled Image Layout

For many information visualization applications, showing the transition when interacting with the data is critically important as it can help users better perceive the changes and understand the underlying data. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of animated transition in a tiled image layout where the spiral arrangement of the images is based on their similarity. Three aspects of animated transition are considered, including animation steps, animation actions, and flying paths. Exploring and weighting the advantages and disadvantages of different methods for each aspect and in conjunction with the characteristics of the spiral image layout, we present an integrated solution, called AniMap, for animating the transition from an old layout to a new layout when a different image is selected as the query image. We show the effectiveness of our animated transition solution by demonstrating experimental results and conducting a comparative user study.

Toward flexible visual analytics augmented through smooth display transitions

Visualizing big and complex multivariate data is challenging.To address this challenge,we propose flexible visual analytics(FVA)with the aim to mitigate visual complexity and interaction complexity challenges in visual analytics,while maintaining the strengths of multiple perspectives on the studied data.At the heart of our proposed approach are transitions that fluidly transform data between userrelevant views to offer various perspectives and insights into the data.While smooth display transitions have been already proposed,there has not yet been an interdisciplinary discussion to systematically conceptualize and formalize these ideas.As a call to further action,we argue that future research is necessary to develop a conceptual framework for flexible visual analytics.We discuss preliminary ideas for prioritizing multi-aspect visual representations and multi-aspect transitions between them,and consider the display user for whom such depictions are produced and made available for visual analytics.With this contribution we aim to further facilitate visual analytics on complex data sets for varying data exploration tasks and purposes based on different user characteristics and data use contexts.
