By comparing with other three designs of plate type breakwater(lower arc-shaped plate, single horizontal plate and double horizontal plate), this new type breakwater has been proved more effective. The wave exiting force, transmission and reflection coefficients are analyzed and discussed. In order to reveal the wave elimination mechanism of this type of breakwater, the velocity field around the breakwater is obtained. It is shown that:(1) The sway exciting force is minimal.(2) When the ratio of the submergence and wave amplitude is 0.05, the wave elimination effect will increase by 50% compared with other three types of breakwater.(3) The obvious backflow is found above the plate in the velocity field analysis.展开更多

Nonlinear finite element models of SCBs were established by using the finite element tool, Abaqus. Tie constraints were used to connect the binding bars and the steel plates. Surface-to-surface contact provided by the Abaqus was used to simulate the interaction between the steel plate and the core concrete. The established models could predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of SCBs with a reasonable degree of accuracy. A calculation method was developed by superposition principle to predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of SCBs for the engineering application. The concrete confined by steel plates and binding bars is under multi-axial compression; therefore, its shear strength was calculated by using the Guo-Wang concrete failure criterion. The shear strength of the steel plates of SCBs was calculated by using the von Mises yielding criterion without considering buckling. Although "special shaped precontoured plates" have been developed in recent years for surgical treatment of this region, studies comparing the traditional plates with the newly designed precontoured plates are lacking.AIM To evaluate the biomechanical properties of precontoured anatomic buttress and conventional curved reconstruction plates(CCRPs) for posterior wall acetabulum fracture treatment.METHODS Twelve pelvis models were created for testing plate treatment of fracture in the posterior wall of the acetabulum. These 12 pelvis models were used to create 24 hemipelvis models(experimental) by cutting from the sagittal plane and passing over the center of gravity, after which the posterior wall acetabular fractures(of similar type and size) were created. In these experimental models, the right acetabulum was fixed with a 5-hole CCRP, while the left was fixed with a precontoured anatomic buttress plate(PABP). Samples were placed through thetest device and were subjected to static load testing, with a constant testing velocity of 2 mm/min until the load reached 2.3 kN or the acetabular fixation failed. Dynamic tests were also performed with sinusoidal wave load, with a maximal load of 2.3 kN and a load ratio of 0.1.RESULTS The average stiffness values were 460.83 ± 95.47 N/mm for the PABP and 291.99± 118.58 N/mm for the 5-hole CCRP. The precontoured anatomic acetabulum buttress plates had significantly higher rigidity than the CCRPs(P = 0.022). There was a statistically significant difference between the unloaded and 2.3 kN-loaded values of AL(posterosuperior fracture line vertical to the ground surface) and CL(posteroinferior fracture line vertical to the ground surface) parameters for both the PABPs and the 5-hole CCRPs(P = 0.036 and P = 0.045, respectively).According to the static tests, the amount of total displacement was significantly less in the PABPs than in the CCRPs. Comparative analysis of the displacement in the BL(posterior wall fracture line horizontal to the ground) parameter yielded no statistically significant differences between the PABP and the 5-hole CCRPs(P= 0.261).CONCLUSION PABP provides more stable fixation in acetabulum posterior wall fractures than5-hole CCRP, allowing for proximal or distal fracture line screw application without reshaping.展开更多

From time-domain analytical expressions of the partial derivatives of induced voltage with respect to parameters,it is deduced that the partial derivatives are approximately linearly dependent. Then the constraints of these parameters are obtained by solving a partial linear differential equation. It is indicated that only the product of conductivity and wall thickness, and the product of relative permeability and wall thickness can be determined accurately through the inverse problem with time-domain induced voltage. In the practical testing, supposing the conductivity of the ferromagnetic plate under test is a fixed value, and then the relative variation of wall thickness between two testing points can be calculated via the ratio of the corresponding inversion results of the product of conductivity and wall thickness. Finally, this method for wall thickness measurement is verified by the experiment results of a carbon steel plate.展开更多

The capacity spectrum method (CSM) is programmed by means of MATLABT.0 computer language. A dual lateral force resisting system of 10-story steel frame-steel plate shear walls (SPSW) is designed according to the corresponding China design codes. The base shear force-roof displacement curve of structure subjected to the monotonic increasing lateral inverse triangular load is obtained by applying the equivalent strip model to stimulate SPSW and by using the finite element analysis software SAP2000 to make Pushover analysis. The seismic performance of this dual system subjected to three different conditions, i.e. the 8-intensity frequently occurred earthquake, fortification earthquake and seldom occurred earthquake, is evaluated by CSM program. The excessive safety of steel frame-SPSW system designed according to the present China design codes is pointed out and a new design method is suggested.展开更多

The new wall is composed of three different energy dissipation elements: CFST columns; SP deep beams; and reinforced concrete (RC) strips. The RC strips are intended to allow the core structural elements - the CFST columns and SP deep beams - to work as a single structure to consume energy. Six specimens of different configurations were tested under cyclic loading. The resulting data are analyzed herein. In addition, numerical simulations of the stress and damage processes for each specimen were carried out, and simulations were completed for a range of location and span-height ratio variations for the SP beams. The simulations show good agreement with the test results. The core structure exhibits a ductile yielding mechanism characteristic of strong column-weak beam structures, hysteretic curves are plump and the composite shear wall exhibits several seismic defense lines. The deformation of the shear wall specimens with encased CFST column and SP deep beam design appears to be closer to that of entire shear walls. Establishing optimal design parameters for the configuration of SP deep beams is pivotal to the best seismic behavior of the wall. The new composite shear wall is therefore suitable for use in the seismic design of building structures.展开更多

Therefore, the suppression of vibration is an unavoidable problem during milling. A novel partial surface damping method is proposed to modify the mode of the thin walled cantilever plate and to suppress vibration during milling. Based on classical plate theory, the design criterion is analyzed and configuration of the partial surface damper is introduced, in which viscoelastic plate and constraining plate are attached to the surface of the plate to increase the system's natural frequency and loss factor. In order to obtain the energy expression of the cutting system, the Ritz method is used to describe the unknown displacements. Then, with Lagrange's equation, the natural frequency and loss factor are calculated. In addition, the plate is divided into a finite number of square elements, and the regulation of treated position is studied based on theoretic and experimental analysis. The milling tests are conducted to verify its damping performance and the experimentalresults show that with treatment of partial surface damper, the deformation of the hare plate is reduced from 0.27 mm to 0.1 mm, while the vibration amplitude of the bare plate is reduced from 0.08 mm to 0.01 mm. The proposed research provides the instruction to design partial surface damper.展开更多

We considered two plates with porosities of and . The plates were positioned at distances of 10 cm and 20 cm below the jet inlet. The experiments were realized using 2D Laser Doppler Anemometer (LDA). Different profiles of mean and fluctuating velocities are presented. The presence of a perforated plate strongly modified the airflow pattern compared to an empty enclosure. The velocities above and below the plate depend on several parameters, including the porosity and the plate’s position relative to the inlet slot and the longitudinal position. The difference between the flow velocity above and below the plates could not be related using a universal formula that depends on these parameters. We also investigated the influence of a porous media of a height of 20 cm (a stack of spheres having a diameter of 3.75 cm) located below the perforated plate. The results highlight that the porous medium strengthens the effects of the perforated plate on the flow.展开更多

The minimum wall pressure coefficient of an orifice plate can indirectly reflect its cavitation characteristics: the lower the minimum wall pressure coefficient is, the better the ability of the orifice plate to resist cavitation damage is. Thus, it is important to study the minimum wall pressure coefficient of the orifice plate. In this study, this coefficient and related parameters, such as the contraction ratio, defined as the ratio of the orifice plate diameter to the flood-discharging tunnel diameter; the relative thickness, defined as the ratio of the orifice plate thickness to the tunnel diameter; and the Reynolds number of the flow through the orifice plate, were theoretically analyzed, and their relationships were obtained through physical model experiments. It can be concluded that the minimum wall pressure coefficient is mainly dominated by the contraction ratio and relative thickness. The lower the contraction ratio and relative thickness are, the larger the minimum wall pressure coefficient is. The effects of the Reynolds number on the minimum wall pressure coefficient can be neglected when it is larger than 10^5. An emoirical expression was presented to calculate the minimum wall oressure coefficient in this study.展开更多

Limitation in available flow chambers with a constant WSSG in the testing region makes it difficult to quantify cellular responses to WSSG. The current study proposes and characterizes a type of converging parallel plate flow chamber (PPFC) featuring a constant gradient of WSS. A simple formula was derived for the curvature of side walls, which relates WSSG to flow rate (Q), height of the PPFC (h), length of the convergent section (L), its widths at the entrance (w0) and exit (w1). CFD simulation of flow in the chamber is carried out. Constant WSSG is observed in most regions of the top and bottom plates except those in close proximity of side walls. A change in Q or h induces equally proportional changes in WSS and WSSG whereas an alteration in the ratio between w0 and w1 results in a more significant change in WSSG than that in WSS. The current design makes possible an easy quantification of WSSG on endothelial cells in the flow chamber.展开更多

Because they are flexible and pliable, titanium plates are proposed to reconstruct the chest wall, even though such chest wall reconstruction has been performed in only a few cases worldwide. We present a case of a 49-year-old man with a chondrosarcoma arising from the left 1st rib, invading the manubrium, clavicle, 2nd and 3rd ribs, and the anterior segment of the left upper lobe. After wide resection, the chest wall was reconstructed using titanium rib plates and Marlex mesh- the Bovine pericardium sandwich type. The patient tolerated the pain well, and fourteen months after surgery, the chest wall was well preserved function mobility and improved pulmonary function test.展开更多

A similar situation can be found when a jet flow interacts with a perforated plate. The numerical modeling of a perforated plate by meshing in detail each hole is most often impossible in a practical case (many holes with different shapes). Therefore, perforated plates are often modeled as porous zones with a simplified hypothesis based on pressure losses related to the normal flow through the plate. Nevertheless, previous investigations of flow over permeable walls highlight the impossibility of deducing a universal analytical law governing the slip velocity coefficient since the latter depends on many parameters such as the Reynolds number, porosity, interface structure, design of perforations, and flow direction. This makes the modeling of such a configuration difficult. The present study proposes an original numerical interface law for a perforated plate. It is used to model the turbulent jet flow interacting with a perforated plate considered as a fictitious porous medium without a detailed description of the perforations. It considers the normal and tangential effects of the flow over the plate. Validation of the model is realized through comparison with experimental data.展开更多

In order to study the multi-energy dissipation behavior and restorability after an earthquake, two stages of low cyclic loading tests were carded out on ten test specimens. In the first stage, test on five specimens with different number of SP deep beams was carried out, and the test lasted until the displacement drift reached 2%. In the second stage, thin SPs were welded to both sides of the five specimens tested in the first stage, and the same test was carried out on the repaired specimens (designated as new specimens). The load-bearing capacity, stiffness, ductility, hysteretic behavior and failure characteristics were analyzed for both stages and the results are discussed herein. Extrapolating from these results, strength calculation models and formulas are proposed herein and simulations using ABAQUS carried out, they show good agreement with the test results. The study demonstrates that SRC columns, SP deep beams, concrete wall and energy dissipation strips cooperate well and play an important role in energy dissipation. In addition, this study shows that the shear wall has good recoverability after an earthquake, and that the welding of thin SP's to repair a deformed wall is a practicable technique.展开更多

For this, scrap tires are used as light- weight alternative materials in many engineering applications, such as retaining wall backfilling. In the present study, 90 laboratory models were prepared to evaluate the stability of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls with plate anchors. Then, the bearing capacity and horizontal displacements of the retaining walls were monitored by exerting a static loading to investigate the effects of adding different contents (5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt% and 20 wt%) of recycled crumb rubber (RCR) to the fill of a mechanically stabilized retaining wall with plate anchors. To visualize the critical slip surface of the wall, the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique was employed. Results showed that the circular anchor plates almost continually provided a higher bearing capacity and wall stability than the square plates. Moreover, the backfill with 15 wt% RCR provided the maximum bearing capacity of the wall. Increasing the weight percentage of RCR to 20 wt% resulted in a significant reduction in horizontal displacement of the wall, which occurred due to the decrease in lateral earth pressure against the whole walls. An increase in RCR content resulted in the decrease in the formation of failure wedge and the expansion of the wall slip surface, and the failure wedge did not form in the sand mixtures with 15 wt% and 20 wt% RCRs.展开更多

This study is to evaluate the results of Trochanteric Buttress Plate (TBP) combined with PFN in an unstable IT fractures for buttressing lateral wall and reinforcing fixation. Materials and Methods: We carried out a consecutive study of 32 patients of Unstable intertrochanteric fracture femur with lateral wall comminution. It was studied at Ashwini Sahakari Rugnalaya and Sanshodhan Kendra Solapur India and Government medical college Chandrapur India from April-2015 to December-2017 using innovative Trochanteric buttress plate along with PFN. Eighteen male and fourteen female in the age group of 55 to 80 years were included in the study. There were 26 cases of A3 and six cases of A2 were fixed by PFN combined with trochanteric buttress plate to augment the comminuted lateral wall. Results: The bone healing is observed in all the cases in the mean period of 12.6 weeks. Four patients developed complications, including lateral migration of neck screws (n = 2), superficial infection (n = 2). Patients were followed up for a mean of 10.6 months. At the end of follow-up the Salvati and Wilson hip function was 36 (out of 40) in 87.5% of patients [twenty eight patients]. The clinical, radiological and functional outcomes were found to be satisfactory. Conclusion: The stabilization of lateral trochanteric wall with trochanteric buttress plate restores anatomy, increases the stability of construct and prevents inherent complication of screw migration and cutout.展开更多

The result shows that the actuator not only effectively leads to a local rise in near-wall velocity, but also efficiently causes a decrease in the displacement thickness of the boundary layer. Actuator-induced vorticity is generated to intensify the energy exchange between the main flow and the boundary layer, and dynamic energy is thus added directly to the low-energy fluid by the actuator. Although the increase in fluid velocity also brings a rise in dynamic energy loss, the energy added by the actuator can cover this to provide growth in the energy of the boundary layer. The plasma actuator presents a better performance when the free-stream velocity is lower.展开更多

We also investigated the influence of a porous media of a height of 20 cm (a stack of spheres having a diameter of 3.75 cm) located below the perforated plate. The results highlight that the porous medium strengthens the effects of the perforated plate on the flow.

文摘Orifice plate energy dissipaters have been successfully used in large-scale hydropower projects due to their simple structure, convenient construction procedure, and high energy dissipation ratio. An emoirical expression was presented to calculate the minimum wall oressure coefficient in this study.
文摘Many in vitro studies focus on effects of wall shear stress (WSS) and wall shear stress gradient (WSSG) on endothelial cells, which are linked to the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis in the arterial system. The current design makes possible an easy quantification of WSSG on endothelial cells in the flow chamber.
文摘In spite of the good performance of the steel plate shear wall(SPSW)in recent earthquakes and experimental studies, the need for huge columns to surround the infill plate is a major shortcoming of the system. This shortcoming can be resolved by using semi-supported SPSW.The semi-supported SPSW has secondary columns that prevent the transfer of stress from the infill plate to the main columns. In spite of extensive experimental and numerical investigations on SPSWs,there are many ambiguities regarding the behavior of the semi-supported SPSW.Although stress in the columns is reduced, incomplete diagonal tension field action is formed in the infill plate that creates new problems. In this paper,a new type of semi-supported SPSW is presented in which the steel plate and the secondary columns are angled. The creation of the angle of the plate and the secondary column makes it possible to use the full capacity of the steel plate as well as the capacity of the secondary columns.Numerical results showed that the wall with a 60°angle has a favorable performance relative to the semi-supported wall. Moreover, with the 60°angle,stiffness,strength and energy absorption is increased. The angle of the secondary columns has little effect on the non-elastic stiffness.Nevertheless, using a wall with an angle of more than 90°can neutralize the wall’s behavior relative to conventional walls. Therefore, the wall with a 60°angle as an optimal angle is recommended.
文摘Chest wall reconstruction after en-bloc tumor resection is very important to preserve functional mobility and to enhance the cosmetic effect. The patient tolerated the pain well, and fourteen months after surgery, the chest wall was well preserved function mobility and improved pulmonary function test.
文摘This paper presents a new type of two sides slotted steel plate shear wall, and carries on the analysis to the finite element elastic buckling, respectively discusses the critical buckling load and the buckling mode. For the steel plate shear wall without stiffening ribs on both sides, the paper given the buckling coefficient formula, and give design proposal and reference value of steel plate shear wall with stiffened on both sides.
文摘When performing numerical modeling of fluid flows where a clear medium is adjacent to a porous medium, a degree of difficulty related to the condition at the interface between the two media, where slip velocity exists, is encountered. Validation of the model is realized through comparison with experimental data.

文摘In this paper, a steel-concrete multi-energy dissipation composite shear wall, comprised of steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) columns, steel plate (SP) deep beams, a concrete wall and energy dissipation strips, is proposed. In addition, this study shows that the shear wall has good recoverability after an earthquake, and that the welding of thin SP's to repair a deformed wall is a practicable technique.
文摘Traditional techniques for treatment of waste rubber, such as burning, generate some highly non- degradable synthetic materials that cause unrepairable environmental damages by releasing heavy metals, such as arsenic, chromium, lead, manganese and nickel. An increase in RCR content resulted in the decrease in the formation of failure wedge and the expansion of the wall slip surface, and the failure wedge did not form in the sand mixtures with 15 wt% and 20 wt% RCRs.
文摘Introduction: Proximal femoral nail is a better choice of implant for the treatment of an unstable trochanteric fracture, however it is associated with screw migration and cutout because of greater trochanteric comminution and coronal split. Conclusion: The stabilization of lateral trochanteric wall with trochanteric buttress plate restores anatomy, increases the stability of construct and prevents inherent complication of screw migration and cutout.

文摘Particle image velocimetry experiments and simulations were conducted in this study to clarify the influence of the DBD plasma actuator on the flow over a flat plate. The plasma actuator presents a better performance when the free-stream velocity is lower.
