Hybrid Architecture:A Studio-Based Pedagogical Framework for Digital Architectural Design

This article intends to bring a new perspective to the discussion of how studio-based education in architectural studies can improve its quality by embedding meta-tools as paradigmatic frameworks as a learning/teaching strategy.The newly emerging creative and collaborative digital design tools and systems led to the re-shaping and re-definition of the traditional studio-based teaching/learning processes.The shift does not only comprise of a newly gained ability of using“design toolkits”,but also has substantial cognitive and pedagogical implications.The paper presents,describes and discusses the application of a new pedagogical approach through the application of a novel knowledge framework,that has been used in the teaching of DAD(Digital Architectural Design)in the context of a master’s level course.

Application of Fair-faced Concrete Material in Architectural Design

Digital Application of BIM Technology in the Architectural Design Stage

This paper discusses the digital application of building information model(BIM)technology in the architectural design stage.Taking the large-scale comprehensive development project of Guangxi headquarters base as an example,this paper analyzes in detail how BIM technology promotes the intelligence and refinement of the design process.Through the threedimensional modeling and simulation analysis of BIM technology,the project design has realized the accurate transformation from concept to operation,which not only improves the design efficiency,but also ensures the construction quality and economic benefits.This paper focuses on the application of BIM in the digital design of building structure,the deepening design of steel nodes,as well as the remarkable results in the comprehensive layout optimization of mechanical and electrical pipelines.Through the collision detection and optimization design of the BIM model,the potential design conflicts and construction problems were found and solved at the initial stage of the project,ensuring the efficient promotion and smooth implementation of the project.The research results show that BIM technology,as the core digital tool in the architectural design stage,is of great significance for improving the overall design level of the construction industry and realizing intelligent construction.

Cultural Review of the Value Conflicts of Architectural Design

There exist multiple value conflicts in Chinese modern architectural design,mainly in three forms,that is,the incongruity between architecture and natural environment,the isolation between functionalism and emotionalism and the deficiency in the virtue of architects.These led to the acts of the inappropriate trade-off,blind plagiarism and hasty decision-making in the design process.The reason is that the current popular culture of architecture is always chasing the market-oriented benefits.Examining and integrating the value conflicts is helpful to explore the rational value system of modern architectural design from the cross-cultural perspective.

Analysis of the Architectural Design Talent Development Direction by Investigating the Employment Status of Architectural Design Graduates

Based on a comprehensive investigation of the employment status of architectural design graduates at a certain university,this paper analyzes the correctness of the talent development direction of architectural design in hopes of pro-viding a valuable reference for further teaching reform and strengthening school-enterprise collaboration.The research re-sults show that architectural design is the main choice of graduates,accounting for as high as 63%,and traditional architec-tural design skills continue to be in demand in the market.Employment in fields such as interior design,BIM design,and green architecture is also included.The distribution of job positions for graduates is mainly in the areas of scheme design assistants and construction drawing design,requiring software operation,communication,scheme design,and construction drawing skills.This paper also proposes talent development measures such as optimizing the curriculum,strengthening faculty construction,and deepening school-enterprise collaboration,in order to improve the quality of talent development and the competitiveness of graduates.

Countermeasures to Promote the Training of Prefabricated Construction Talents for Architectural Design Majors in Vocational Colleges

To concentrate on cultivating prefabricated construction talents for architectural design majors in vocational colleges in China,we should adhere to the basic principles of professional coordinated development and integration of production,teaching,and research to determine the teaching objectives and contents,set up a double-teacher teaching team,and provide sufficient resources and funds.Specifically,it is necessary to optimize the curriculum system with the guidance of professional groups,create teaching situations with information platforms,introduce Building Information Modeling(BIM)technology to connect with the actual situation,adhere to the combination of education and training to improve the practice mechanism of school-enterprise cooperation,deepen the integration pattern of post-course certificate competition,and follow the ideological and political teaching route of professional course to realize the comprehensive improvement of students’knowledge,skills,and professional quality.

Tele-COVID: A Telemedicine SOA-Based Architectural Design for COVID-19 Patients

In Wuhan,China,a novel Corona Virus(COVID-19)was detected in December 2019;it has changed the entire world and to date,the number of diagnosed cases is 38,756,2891 and 1,095,2161 people have died.This happened because a large number of people got affected and there is a lack of hospitals for COVID-19 patients.One of the precautionary measures for COVID-19 patients is isolation.To support this,there is an urgent need for a platform that makes treatment possible from a distance.Telemedicine systems have been drastically increasing in number and size over recent years.This increasing number intensies the extensive need for telemedicine for the national healthcare system.In this paper,we present Tele-COVID which is a telemedicine application to treat COVID-19 patients from a distance.Tele-COVID is uniquely designed and implemented in Service-Oriented Architecture(SOA)to avoid the problem of interoperability,vendor lock-in,and data interchange.With the help of Tele-COVID,the treatment of patients at a distance is possible without the need for them to visit hospitals;in case of emergency,necessary services can also be provided.

Reflection on Full Life Cycle Green Architectural Design of Passive Priority——Taking the Award Design of China Merchants Property 2013 Green Architectural Design Competition as an Example

In the China merchants property 2013 green architectural design competition,feature of this awardwinning program is the design method based on the principles of passive priority and comprehensive utilization of full life cycle. The passive priority can be achieved by building form derived from the simulation and analysis of wind environment,improvement of the building envelope insulation and the dehumidification of fresh air,the use of solar energy. The full life cycle utilization can be accomplished by the combination of exhibition and residents' leisure activities, and the integration with local cultural tradition, thereby improving energy efficiency and the utilization of the building.

Exploration of nature-based biomimetic approach in landscape architectural design: parametric study of candelabra model design

This research provides an exploration of a biomimetic approach in the process of designing a candelabra model using linear shaped leaves of a Bell flower.The design process described in this research contains two steps:biological and geometrical.In the first biological step,a proper model for the creation of an urban element was found from nature in a Bell flower(Campanula persicifolia L.).The upper leaves of the selected plant,which are small with a linear spear and sharpening at the top,were chosen for the modeling process.The second step included applying two geometrical methods,i.e.,Voronoi diagrams and Delaunay triangulation.A geometrical leaf form of the selected plant species and the modeling process were obtained using aparametric modeling software,Blender.Using different Blender plug-ins and modifiers,Delaunay triangulation and Voronoi diagram were implemented by marking the starting points on the leaf form in the image data source,adjusting the Delaunay triangulation parameters,and creating Voronoi diagrams in which the Voronoi points were located at the shortest distance from the edges of the Voronoi polygon.Consequently,a three dimensional model of a candelabra was developed through this study.

Application of Flipped Classroom in Architectural Design Course of Architecture Discipline

Through the study of the teaching reform design of the course in Architecture Design using the flipped classroom,this paper discussed the effectiveness of the information-based teaching method for students’ learning. It integrated the flipped classroom into all aspects of Architectural Design teaching. By using the flipped classroom,it is expected to effectively solve the problems related to the traditional Architectural Design teaching,enhance the students’ participation in the teaching process,create a learning atmosphere for students,enhance the initiative of self-learning,and promote the improvement in the quality of Architectural Design teaching.

Interpretation of Visual Culture in Architectural Design

Before the invention of characters, human beings used images to convey information and express ideas, and such a mode of transmission has still been maintained and even presented in more diversified forms with the passage of time. Architecture is a significant branch of visual art, it meets functional needs of daily use, and also reflects social culture and its development tendency. This paper analyzed the relationship between architectural design and visual form, explored the expression means of architectural cultures, so as to grasp the development context of history precisely, enrich architectural design and make it a motive of social cultural development.

Importance of building maintenance at the time of architectural design of buildings rehabilitated with heritage value

During architectural conception phase,building maintenance problematic is mostly a result of the unintentional use of preconceived architectonical solutions rather than a consequence of a specific influence of maintenance requirements.Hardly the architect in the act of design understands the importance of these solutions in the service life span of a building.Being aware of this,is it possible for the architect to be supplied with a decision support system that allows him to consider the implications of building maintenance since the early design phases? Having awareness of this problem and its consequences in the early design phases a research project was started at the Faculty Engineering of the University of Oporto(FEUP),under which the implications of building maintenance in the act of architectural design is studied.This article presents the methodology developed to identify the needs of maintenance of buildings based on a DSS-decision support system that provides simple tools the architect can use in design phase.This methodology is based on decomposition of building parts-Elements Source of Maintenance ESM-,and subsequently,a set of functional requirements that determine the performance regarding building maintenance on account of architectural decisions.Relevant maintenance actions are defined: Inspection,Pro-action,Cleaning,Correction,Replacement,Legal enforcement,Limits of use.One can thus set up a relationship between the act of design and its performance framework based on behavior,intervention and the ownership of the work of architecture.Using a Multicriteria Analysis(MCA) a qualitative evaluation of different options based on maintenance requirements accomplishment.Conclusions on the importance of architectural conception concerning the building maintenance were clearly arrived at and the utility of the developed decision support tool was also highlighted.

New Perspective of Architectural Design Based on Immersive Theatre Thinking: A Case Study of Rural Living Room Design in Majia Marsh

The new urbanization provides opportunities for the ecological protection of traditional regional culture. In the context of the integrated development of agriculture, tourism, and cultural industries, this paper integrates the thinking of "immersive theatre" and adopts the design method of multithread dramatic narrative mode to create a number of interactive flow lines in the architecture and focus on the sensory experiences of environment, enabling the traditional regional culture to really touch the audience.

Software Architectural Design in Agile Environments

In this paper, we propose a novel methodology to guide and assist practitioners supporting software architecture and design activities in agile environments. Software architecture and design is the skeleton of a system. It defines how the system has to behave in terms of different functional and non-functional requirements. Currently, a clear specification of software architectural design activities and processes in agile environments does not exist. Our methodology describes in detail the phases in the agile software design process and proposes techniques and tools to implement these phases.

The Arckitbuilding Bricks as a Didactic Tool for Experimentation in Architectural Design： Possibilities and Limitations

This article deals with the usage of building bricks as a didactic material for the development of architectural design. The building brick game chosen for analysis was the Arckit, since it is suitable for the architectural practice. It is estimated that this game can contribute to the design, representation and presentation of projects. In order to investigate in which aspects Arckit presents possibilities of applications, as well as limitations of use, the article approaches the importance of building bricks as a didactic tool and its use in the field of the architectural design process. From a literature review and an empirical experience, this article reports a qualitative research, where the applicability of the Arckit game was checked. Through a critical reflection based on that experience, it was possible to conclude that whereas its limitations to urban form and linked to the formal vocabulary that composes the grammar of these bricks, the Arckit building bricks represent in architecture a playful and experimental way to think and design, fomenting the creativity and the spatial perception, resulting in a particular experience that can make architecture better connected with dreams and joy.

Urban and Architectural Design of the Piazza del Governo in Enna

The paper deals with the urban space of Piazza del Governo in Enna, a town located in the center of Sicily. This square was realized in 1935 by the architect Salvatore Caronia Roberti and is representative of the 1930s＇ fascist regime. The aim of this research is the knowledge of this urban space： the historical references, the compositive choices, the planimetric layout and its geometric rigor, and the monumentality and representativeness of the buildings overlooking the square. The research used the tools of Survey and Representation to better understand the dimensional ratios both at the urban and architectural scale. We have carried out an integrated survey （direct, photogrammetric, 3D laser scanning） in order to acquire a whole set of information essential to describe, document, and appreciate all the features of this urban space. Our investigation started by analyzing the historical documents preserved at the Historic Archive of the city of Enna （project drawings, letters, and historical images） to better understand why some decisions have been taken. The final result represents the historical memory up-to-date of the whole urban space, and it allows any academics to investigate more about the project： the initial decisions, the conservation state, and the possible and more coherent interventions of maintenance and preservation.

The Hierarchy Mode of Priority Value Orientation in Architectural Design

With the development of society and the progress of the times, the category of architectural design continues to expand, and the connotation of architectural design continues to expand too. In order to fred a balance between the subjective value system and the objective value system, an architect must have a value orientation based on his own values and construct a judgment mode that what kind of value orientation is the lust choice for architectural design and how to guide and regulate the value orientation. Based on the concepts and principles of architectural design and value orientation, this study constructs a mode to solve the problem of priority value orientation in architectural design which is based on the analysis of the factors influencing architectural design.
