Recent literatures show that neural networks achieve better performance than traditional statistical methods. However, neural networks have inherent drawbacks, such as local optimization solution, lack generalization, and uncontrolled convergence. A relatively new machine learning technique, support vector machine (SVM), which overcomes the drawbacks of neural networks, is introduced to provide a model with better explanatory power to select ideal supplier partners. Meanwhile, in practice, the suppliers' samples are very insufficient. SVMs are adaptive to deal with small samples' training and testing. The prediction accuracies for BPNN and SVM methods are compared to choose the appreciating suppliers. The actual examples illustrate that SVM methods are superior to BPNN.展开更多
As one of the basic inventory cost models, the (Q, τ)inventory cost model of dual suppliers with random procurement lead time is mostly formulated by using the concepts of "effective lead time" and "lead time de...As one of the basic inventory cost models, the (Q, τ)inventory cost model of dual suppliers with random procurement lead time is mostly formulated by using the concepts of "effective lead time" and "lead time demand", which may lead to an imprecise inventory cost. Through the real-time statistic of the inventory quantities, this paper considers the precise (Q, τ) inventory cost model of dual supplier procurement by using an infinitesimal dividing method. The traditional modeling method of the inventory cost for dual supplier procurement includes complex procedures. To reduce the complexity effectively, the presented method investigates the statistics properties in real-time of the inventory quantities with the application of the infinitesimal dividing method. It is proved that the optimal holding and shortage costs of dual supplier procurement are less than those of single supplier procurement respectively. With the assumption that both suppliers have the same distribution of lead times, the convexity of the cost function per unit time is proved. So the optimal solution can be easily obtained by applying the classical convex optimization methods. The numerical examples are given to verify the main conclusions.展开更多

Presently,the environmental pollution problem,especially that of the small and medium-sized enterprises,has become a bottleneck restricting the high-quality development of China’s economy.It is imperative to accelera...Presently,the environmental pollution problem,especially that of the small and medium-sized enterprises,has become a bottleneck restricting the high-quality development of China’s economy.It is imperative to accelerate the construction of a collaborative governance system with multiple subject participation.The behavior modes of Environmental Non-governmental Organizations(ENGOs),a key player in environmental care,in collaborating with core enterprises to control pollution from small and medium-sized suppliers should be explored.Therefore,we constructed a collaborative governance system consisting of ENGOs,focal firms and small and medium-sized suppliers.Then a two-stage game model was established to analyze the strategies of the governance system.Specifically,we studied the collaborative green cooperation strategy and antagonistic pressure supervision strategy between ENGOs and focal firms,analyzed factors influencing the strategic choices of each subject,and gave the advantages of the cooperation strategies through further comparisons.The results showed that:Under the cooperation strategy,ENGOs provided knowledge of environmental protection to the focal firms,then both the audit efforts of focal firms and the environmental protection efforts of small and medium-sized suppliers were effectively improved.Since ENGOs could not fully obtain the pollution information of small and medium-sized suppliers or accurately trace it from their downstream focal firms,it was difficult to drive the supply chain’s endogenous governance by this external monitoring of ENGOs,making the effect of pressure supervision strategy limited.The effectiveness of green cooperation strategy was positively correlated with the knowledge absorption capacity of focal firms,the unit product revenue,and the focal firms'violation penalties for small and medium-sized suppliers.When ENGOs'violation penalties for small and medium-sized suppliers were higher,or the reputation loss of focal firms was higher,more unfavorable conditions of green cooperation strategy could be achieved.Accordingly,ENGOs should choose to cooperate with focal firms with strong knowledge absorption ability and high profit per product;focal firms should learn environmental protection knowledge to improve the screening standards and review capabilities,and promote the achievement of green cooperation strategy conditions by strengthening active information disclosure;the government should promote the collaboration between ENGOs and focal firms by issuing environmental guidelines.展开更多

A framework of a six-stage sourcing process is developed that includes finding and choosing suppliers, making contracts and orders, performing production and quality control, planning logistics, inspecting purchases, and developing supply chain management. Each stage describes the activities from the channels of seeking suppliers to cooperative areas for further development. The case study illustrates the practices of sourcing from China are actually quite similar to the sourcing process in other countries. The study highlights that quality control is the core issue in sourcing from China. Moreover, the difference in understanding sustainable quality affects supplier screening and quality control. In order to be competitive in today's challenging business environment, manufacturing companies must have the ability to effectively integrate internal functions within a company and effectively link them to the exte...In order to be competitive in today's challenging business environment, manufacturing companies must have the ability to effectively integrate internal functions within a company and effectively link them to the external operations of suppliers and supply chain members. This could be done thanks to the implementation of an effective Supply Chain Management System. The aim of the research is to contribute to the literature panorama on Lean Supply Chain Management through the analysis of a case study of Alpha, Italian company in the arm industry, which has developed a new model called "Free-Pass", and to give a useful, realistic tool, expendable by companies that want to open up to Lean Supply Chain. A qualitative approach has been chosen, based on a longitudinal, single case study; a semi-structured interview has been carried out per year, with the company's Quality Manager from 2009, the year in which the "Free-Pass" model has been implemented, until 2016. Relevant secondary data were also used such as company reports, web site, and performance quantitative data. The implementation of the Free-Pass model across the company leads to a great change, both in terms of the transformation of the production process in a process flow "pulled", both at the organizational level, with the reduction of hierarchical levels, the process orientation, cross-functional teams, the streamlining of functions, and above all, the involvement of suppliers. This implied a radical change in thinking from management and from all the staff and a true "cultural revolution" for the company itself and for its suppliers, but it bought to both financial and organizational benefits. In conclusion the research has shown the importance of implementing quality relationships with suppliers based on trust and cooperation in order to achieve mutual benefits. The value of the research is given by the definition of a new model of Lean Supply Chain as an important tool of operation management which is expendable by companies.展开更多

The implementation of the Free-Pass model across the company leads to a great change, both in terms of the transformation of the production process in a process flow "pulled", both at the organizational level, with the reduction of hierarchical levels, the process orientation, cross-functional teams, the streamlining of functions, and above all, the involvement of suppliers. This implied a radical change in thinking from management and from all the staff and a true "cultural revolution" for the company itself and for its suppliers, but it bought to both financial and organizational benefits. In conclusion the research has shown the importance of implementing quality relationships with suppliers based on trust and cooperation in order to achieve mutual benefits. The value of the research is given by the definition of a new model of Lean Supply Chain as an important tool of operation management which is expendable by companies.
