With the ever-increasing diversification of people’s interests and preferences,artwork has become one of the most popular commodities or investment goods in E-commerce,and it increasingly attracts the attention of the public.Currently,many real-world or virtual artworks can be found in E-commerce,and finding a means to recommend them to appropriate users has become a significant task to alleviate the heavy burden on artwork selection decisions by users.Existing research mainly studies the problem of single-artwork recommendation while neglecting the more practical but more complex composite recommendation of artworks in E-commerce,which considerably influences the quality of experience of potential users,especially when they need to select a set of artworks instead of a single artwork.Inspired by this limitation,we put forward a novel composite recommendation approach to artworks by a user keyword-driven correlation graph search named ART_(com-rec).Through ART_(com-rec),the recommender system can output a set of artworks(e.g.,an artwork composite solution)in E-commerce by considering the keywords typed by a user to indicate his or her personalized preferences.Finally,we validate the feasibility of the ART_(com-rec) approach by a set of simulated experiments on a real-world PW dataset. 展开更多

This paper presents a human body communication(HBC)transceiver for wireless body network applications.The transceiver employs on frequency shift keying(FSK)modulation and op-erates in 40 MHz-60 MHz which is the resonant frequency of the human body as an antenna.It achieves high performance and stability through establish passive microstrip line and via models and active device-models.The proposed transceiver is designed and fabricated by FR4 printed cir-cuit board(PCB)process,the transceiver has the ability of configurable data rate up to 2 Mbps and it achieves-86 dBm receiving sensitivity at 2 Mbps data rate.Meanwhile,the transceiver out-put power dynamics range is 34 dB.Furthermore,with a visual interaction interface,the transceiv-er can be agility use in a variety of scenarios.Its measurements are verified on human body.The result shows that the transceiver has ability to send data from person to person by relying on hu-man body antenna radiation.The transceiver shows great prospect in wireless body area networks(WBAN)for telemedicine and emergency communication. 展开更多

In this article, authors describe how to use the project-based learning (PBL) pedagogy to enhance students' Calculus learning based on the first author's experimental teaching experience. The "2014 BMCC Polar Art Calendar" project was completed by Calculus students at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) during the fall 2013 semester. Students were requested to apply graphs of polar equations to create computer-generated images with a variety of flower patterns by using the Maple technology in a math lab. At the end of this project, students were requested to submit and present their written reports to express their mathematical thinking. Authors also explain in details how to create projects compatible with textbook knowledge learning objectives, how to prepare scaffolding materials for students to use, how to utilize a math lab and to work with lab technicians in Maple Software, and how to design a rubric for project evaluations. Students' artwork created in the Polar Art Calendar are presented. Students' positive outcomes have proven a success of this project design as well as its execution as an example of PBL. Benefits to students and challenges to teachers on the use of PBL approach have been discussed at the end of this article. 展开更多

In this paper, characteristics of sculptures and tiie preference for sculptures of college students in different state of mind were analyzed. A total of 165 college students were invited to participate in the study. The method of image fating was employed to investigate these students,landscape preferences after they completed the Profile of Mood States (POMS). The results showed that when the sculptures were placed alone, students in a positive mood had a preference for abstract sculptures, students in a negative mood had a preference for figumtive sculptures with unique symbolic meanings, and paftidpatofy sculptures were populous among college students in different emotional states. When sculptures were placed in the environmentj natural elements of die sculptures greatly affected college students, preference* Students in a positive mood tended to choose sculpture landscapes combined with plants, and students in a negative mood had a preference for sculpture landscapes with water bodies. There were difFefences in the types of sculptxiie landscapes that the college stxidents in different moods thought can telieve their bad moods. Among the art-works of Fiumara d'arte, the Pyramid is the last one in order of time. It is a monumental sculpture made of COR-TEN steel, by the artist Mauro Staccioli and it is located on one specific point of the 38th parallel of latitude, on a hill of the northern mountains of Sicily. In this study the architectural and engineering features of land art-works built in this particular plein-air park are examined and discussed. After a general description of Fiumara d'Arte and its significance in the territory, the case of the Pyramid on the 38th parallel is focalized and a discussion of its architectural, artistic and environmental values is reported. Moreover the structural implications in its design and construction are explained, while the worst effects of external actions are underlined by showing the results of the analysis performed on a finite element model of the whole structure. 展开更多

As living standards improve,the demand for artworks has been escalating,transcending beyond the realm of mere basic human necessities.However,amidst an extensive array of artwork choices,users often struggle to swiftly and accurately identify their preferred piece.In such scenarios,a recommendation system can be invaluable,assisting users in promptly pinpointing the desired artworks for better service design.Despite the escalating demand for artwork recommendation systems,current research fails to adequately meet these needs.Predominantly,existing artwork recommendation methodologies tend to disregard users’implicit interests,thereby overestimating their capability to articulate their preferences in full and often neglecting the nuances of their diverse interests.In response to these challenges,we have developed a weighted artwork correlation graph and put forth an embedding-based keyword-driven artwork search and recommendation methodology.Our approach transforms the keywords that delineate user interests into word embedding vectors.This allows for an effective distinction between the user’s core and peripheral interests.Subsequently,we employ a dynamic programming algorithm to extract artworks from the correlation graph,thereby obtaining artworks that align with the user’s explicit keywords and implicit interests.We have conducted an array of experiments using real-world datasets to validate our approach.The results attest to the superiority of our method in terms of its efficacy in searching and recommending artworks. 展开更多

We present a novel framework for the multidomain synthesis of artworks from semantic layouts.One of the main limitations of this challenging task is the lack of publicly available segmentation datasets for art synthesis.To address this problem,we propose a dataset called ArtSem that contains 40,000 images of artwork from four different domains,with their corresponding semantic label maps.We first extracted semantic maps from landscape photography and used a conditional generative adversarial network(GAN)-based approach for generating high-quality artwork from semantic maps without requiring paired training data.Furthermore,we propose an artwork-synthesis model using domain-dependent variational encoders for high-quality multi-domain synthesis.Subsequently,the model was improved and complemented with a simple but effective normalization method based on jointly normalizing semantics and style,which we call spatially style-adaptive normalization(SSTAN).Compared to the previous methods,which only take semantic layout as the input,our model jointly learns style and semantic information representation,improving the generation quality of artistic images.These results indicate that our model learned to separate the domains in the latent space.Thus,we can perform fine-grained control of the synthesized artwork by identifying hyperplanes that separate the different domains.Moreover,by combining the proposed dataset and approach,we generated user-controllable artworks of higher quality than that of existing approaches,as corroborated by quantitative metrics and a user study. 展开更多

Previous collaborative studies have shown the main fringe patterns and their typical classification with regard to defects.Nevertheless,the complexity of the results prevents defect detection automation based on a fringe pattern classification table.The use of fringe patterns for the structural diagnosis of artwork is important for conveying crucial detailed information and dense data sources that are unmatched compared to those obtained using other conventional or modern techniques.Hologram interferometry fringe patterns uniquely reveal existing and potential structural conditions independent of object shape,surface complexity,material inhomogeneity,multilayered and mixed media structures,without requiring contact and interaction with the precious surface.Thus,introducing a concept that from one hand allows fringe patterns to be considered as a powerful standalone physical tool for direct structural condition evaluation with a focus on artwork conservators'need for structural diagnosis while sets a conceptual basis for defect detection automation is crucial.The aim intensifies when the particularities of ethics and safety in the field of art conservation are considered.There are ways to obtain the advantages of fringe patterns even when specialized software and advanced analysis algorithms fail to convey usable information.Interactively treating the features of fringe patterns through step-wise reasoning provides direct diagnosis while formulates the knowledge basis to automate defect isolation and identification procedures for machine learning and artificial intelligence(AI)development.The transfer of understanding of the significance of fringe patterns through logical steps to an AI system is this work's ultimate technical aim.Research on topic is ongoing. 展开更多

Based on an unexpected result of obtaining molecular sequence data from tropical representatives of the genus Normandina,we revised the biological concept of the neotropical taxon Marchandiomphalina foliacea.The obtained data let us conclude that M.foliacea is not a basidiomycete,as originally proposed,but belongs in Verrucariaceae,in the genus Agonimia,including its perithecia which had been identified with the lichenicolous Norrlinia peltigericola.The ITS(and nuLSU)sequences previously obtained from M.foliacea,seemingly confirming its status as a basidiomycete,are from an unmanifested lichenicolous fungus,present also in numerous specimens of Normandina.ITS data suggest the presence of seven lineages that can be recognized at the species level,forming two clusters:one cluster of three lineages found in thalli of M.foliacea,and a second cluster of four lineages found in thalli of Normandina.This pattern is similar to what has recently been found in the basidiomycete genus Cyphobasidium occurring predominantly in Parmeliaceae lichens.We propose the combination of Omphalina foliacea into the genus Agonimia,as Agonimia foliacea(P.M.Jørg.)Lucking&Moncada,comb.nov.,and place Marchandiomphalina in synonymy with Agonimia.To formally recognize the unnamed lichenicolous basidiomycete present in Agonimia and Normandina thalli,we take advantage of provision ICN Art.40.5 in the Code and describe the unmanifested fungus as a new genus,with seven new species,even if no physical type specimens can be preserved(except for the corresponding host lichens which,however,do not show the features of the fungus):Lawreymyces Lucking&Moncada,gen.nov.(Type:L.palicei),with L.bogotensis Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.,L.columbiensis Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.,L.confusus Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.,L,foliaceae Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.,L.palicei Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.,L.pulchellae Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.,and L.spribillei Lucking&Moncada,sp.nov.This opens the door to the formal recognition of thousands of species of voucherless fungi detected through environmental sequencing techniques under the current Code. 展开更多
