Objective This study aimed to explore the clinical value of Children Neuropsychological and Behavioral Scale-Revision 2016(CNBS-R2016)for Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)screening in the presence of developmental surveillance. Methods All participants were evaluated by the CNBS-R2016 and Gesell Developmental Schedules(GDS).Spearman’s correlation coefficients and Kappa values were obtained.Taking GDS as a reference assessment, the performance of the CNBS-R2016 for detecting the developmental delays of children with ASD was analyzed with receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves. The efficacy of the CNBS-R2016 to screen for ASD was explored by comparing Communication Warning Behavior with Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule,Second Edition(ADOS-2).Results In total,150 children aged 12–42 months with ASD were enrolled. The developmental quotients of the CNBS-R2016 were correlated with those of the GDS(r=0.62–0.94).The CNBS-R2016 and GDS had good diagnostic agreement for developmental delays(Kappa=0.73–0.89),except for Fine Motor. There was a significant difference between the proportions of Fine Motor, delays detected by the CNBS-R2016 and GDS(86.0%vs.77.3%).With GDS as a standard, the areas under the ROC curves of the CNBS-R2016 were above 0.95 for all the domains except Fine Motor, which was 0.70.In addition, the positive rate of ASD was 100.0%and 93.5%when the cut-off points of 7 and 12 in the Communication Warning Behavior subscale were used, respectively. Conclusion The CNBS-R2016 performed well in developmental assessment and screening for children with ASD,especially by Communication Warning Behaviors subscale. Therefore, the CNBS-R2016 is worthy of clinical application in children with ASD in China. 展开更多

Children with autism spectrum disorders(ASD)or autism are more prone to gastrointestinal(GI)disorders than the general population. These disorders can significantly affect their health, learning, and development due to various factors such as genetics, environment, and behavior. The causes of GI disorders in children with ASD can include gut dysbiosis, immune dysfunction, food sensitivities, digestive enzyme deficiencies, and sensory processing differences. Many studies suggest that numerous children with ASD experience GI problems, and effective management is crucial.Diagnosing autism is typically done through genetic, neurological, functional, and behavioral assessments and observations, while GI tests are not consistently reliable. Some GI tests may increase the risk of developing ASD or exacerbating symptoms.Addressing GI issues in individuals with ASD can improve their overall well-being,leading to better behavior, cognitive function, and educational abilities.Proper management can improve digestion, nutrient absorption, and appetite by relieving physical discomfort and pain.Alleviating GI symptoms can improve sleep patterns, increase energy levels, and contribute to a general sense of well-being,ultimately leading to a better quality of life for the individual and improved family dynamics. The primary goal of GI interventions is to improve nutritional status, reduce symptom severity, promote a balanced mood, and increase patient independence. 展开更多

Intelligence quotient(IQ)and adaptive behavior are the influencing factors of autism spectrum disorder(ASD)in children entering mainstream schools. This study explored the association between parental education level,IQ,and adaptive behavior in ASD groups.A total of 257 school-age ASD children were enrolled in our study from January 2017 to June 2021.Their parents completed a standard demographic form, including age at autism diagnosis, gender, school placement, and parents’educational background. The Chinese version of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children,Fourth Edition(WISC-IV)was completed by a certified assessor for each enrolled child.Parents were interviewed on adaptive behavior using the Chinese version of the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System,Second Edition(ABAS-II).The average IQ of school-age ASD children was 76.88(standard deviation(SD)=22.62)and boys had higher IQ levels than girls. The IQ was positively correlated with age.The General Adaptive Composite(GAC)score was 82.47(SD=15.86)and adaptive behavior did not increase with age.ASD children who attended mainstream schools had better adaptive behavior profiles than other children. The mother’s education level showed a significant correlation with the IQ and adaptive behavior of autistic children, while the father’s education level did not.Consequently, better training and support for parents may help autistic children enter mainstream schools, with adaptive training being the most urgently required skill for parents. 展开更多

This study aimed to establish norms for the modi?ed Chinese version of the Autism Spectrum Rating Scale(ASRS). Participants were recruited from Shanghai,Harbin, Guangzhou, and Changsha, China, and their parents and teachers were invited to complete the Chinese Parent version and the Teacher version of the ASRS. In both versions, boys had signi?cantly higher sub-scale scores and total score(T-score) by 1–3 and 4–5 points respectively, than girls(both P / 0.001). Age had weak correlations with some sub-scores and the T-score(r ranged from-0.1859 to 0.0738), and some reached signi?cance(P / 0.03). The correlations appeared stronger and were more common in females. The T-score based on Chinese norms ideally correlated with the score based on the United States norms in boys and girls for both versions.Norms for the Chinese version of the ASRS for children aged 6–12 years are proposed and may be helpful for screening individuals with autism spectrum disorders from the general population of children. 展开更多

The purpose of this study was to explore the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the autism spectrum rating scale(ASRS). We recruited 1,625community-based children and 211 autism spectrum disorder(ASD) cases from 4 sites, and the parents of all participants completed the Chinese version of the ASRS. A robust weighted least squares means and variance adjusted estimator was used for exploratory factor analysis. The3-factor structure included 59 items suitable for the current sample. The item reliability for the modi?ed Chinese version of the ASRS(MC-ASRS) was excellent. Moreover, with 60 as the cut-off point, receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that the MC-ASRS had excellent discriminate validity, comparable to that of the unmodi?ed Chinese version(UC-ASRS), with area under the curve values of 0.952(95% CI: 0.936–0.967) and 0.948(95% CI:0.930–0.965), respectively. Meanwhile, the con?rm factor analysis revealed that MC-ASRS had a better construct validity than UC-ASRS based on the above factor solution in another children sample. In conclusion, the MC-ASRS shows better ef?cacy in epidemiological screening for ASD in Chinese children. 展开更多
