Maximum pulp yield (43.58%) of kappa number 17.38 with 0.9% screening rejects was obtained at 12% of active alkali (as Na2O) pulping temperature 130°C, cooking time 120 min and solid to liquor ratio 1:4. During bio-soda pulping of E. binata, pulp yield decreased slightly while pulp brightness, tensile index, burst index and double fold numbers were improved by 4.1%, 24.94%, 14.03% and 48.45% respectively compared to soda pulping. During ethanol-soda pulping of E. binata, pulp yield, pulp brightness, tensile index, burst index and double fold numbers were improved by 3.9%, 6.6%, 32.18%, 35.40% and 77.31% respectively compared to soda pulping.展开更多

The results indicates that ethanol pulping has remarkable effects on the length of cellulose, which is clearly reduced with adding ethanol and acid. The margin of length of cellulose become smaller with the increase of the catalyzer. When the ethanol concentration was 70%, the concentration of acid was 0.3% and some NaOH was used as catalyzer, the length of cellulose was the longest.展开更多

The results preliminarily showed that the dissolved lignin could re-adsorb to fiber surface by means of fiber classification technology and explained the questions found during the study. Some measures were taken to reduce the kappa number, the results had shown that there was obvious absorption in the ethanol pulping; lignin remained in the pulp could easily be dissolved and the pulp with lower kappa number could be obtained at a higher temperature; the kappa number could reduce by increasing washing time; it could enable dissolved lignin to separate out from the ethanol pulp and restrain the lignin absorption by blowing cooking liquid at high temperature.展开更多

Saccharomyces diastaticus 2047 isolated from cassava waste showed amylase and glucoamylase production, using starch medium, and the highest rate was obtained in the initial growth phase, after incubation for 24 h at pH 5.5. Maximum amylase and glucoamylase activities (483.62 U mg^-1 protein and 290.85 U mg^-1 protein) were obtained at pH 5.5. The isolated enzymes exhibited thermostable properties as indicated by retention of 100% of residual activity at 55 ℃ for 45 min with total inhibition at 100 ℃. Extracellular enzyme from S diastaticus 2047 was partially purified by fractionated precipitation with ammonium sulphate. After 40% saturation produced 2,197.00 and 1,192.83 U/mg protein, and yield was 40% with purification 4.54 and 4.1 fold, respectively. This study presents feasibility on ethanol production from cassava pulps pretreated with diluted sulfuric acid by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) with S. diastaticus 2047. The results indicated that the culture was able to produce ethanol with high yield without amylolytic enzyme adding by using cassava pulps pretreated with distilled water at 135 ℃ under pressure of 15 lb/inch^2 to produce ethanol yield as high as the cassava pulps pretreated with diluted sulfuric acid under the same condition. This suggests that S diastaticus with enzyme produced has potential for industrial applications.展开更多
