The multi-spiral cage is a device of five interconn...Presented herein is an experimental study on seismic resistance of rectangular steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns confined with a new type of multi-spiral cage. The multi-spiral cage is a device of five interconnected spirals, named "5-spirals", with a large spiral at the center and four small ones at the corners. The innovation of applying the 5-spirals to SRC column is to take its superiority in concrete confinement and efficiency in automatic production for the precast construction industry. Four full-scale SRC columns were tested under horizontal cyclic loading. All of the tested columns were capable of sustaining a drift angle up to 6% radians. The hysteresis loops observed from the cyclic loading tests indicated that the spirally confined SRC columns demonstrated excellent performances in both strength and ductility. The test results suggested that with significant saving of the confinement steel, the newly innovated 5-spirals can be successfully applied to the precast rectangular SRC columns.展开更多
Investigations of the seismic behavior of steel reinforced concrete L-shaped columns under constant axial compression and cycled bending-shear-torsion load were performed.Six specimens,which considered two parameters,...Investigations of the seismic behavior of steel reinforced concrete L-shaped columns under constant axial compression and cycled bending-shear-torsion load were performed.Six specimens,which considered two parameters,i.e.,the moment ratio of torsion to bending(γ)and the aspect ratio(column length-to-depth ratio,φ),were prepared for the experiment.In this study,the failure process,torsion-displacement hysteresis curves,and flexure-displacement hysteresis curves were obtained.The failure characteristics,mechanical behavior of specimens such as the failure patterns,hysteresis curves,rigidity degradation,ductility and energy dissipation,are analyzed.The experimental research indicated that the major failures of the specimens were bending failure,bending-shear failure and bending-torsion failure as the moment ratio of torsion to bending(γ)increased.The torsion-displacement hysteresis curves were pinched in the middle,formed a slip platform,and the phenomenon of“load drop”occurred after the peak load.The bending-displacement hysteresis curves were plump,which showed that bending capacity of the specimen was better than its torsion capacity.Additionally,the energy dissipation of the specimen was dominated by torsion in the early stage and ultimately governed by the bending moment in the later phase.Test results also indicated that the displacement ductility coefficient and interstory rotation angle of the failure point were less than 3.0 and 1/50,respectively,which means the test specimen performance does not meet the requirement of the Chinese Code for Seismic Design of Buildings(GB 50011-2014)in this respect.展开更多
This paper presents an experimental study investigating factors influencing the effective width of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) column-steel beam joints of building in order to calculate its resisting moment.Five 1...This paper presents an experimental study investigating factors influencing the effective width of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) column-steel beam joints of building in order to calculate its resisting moment.Five 1/2 scaled interior SRC column-steel beam joint specimens were made with considering parameters such as beam flange width,beam depth and SRC column width.One directional increasing moment was applied to the joint by acting forces to each ends of beam and the structural behavior of joint was studied.And previous design method suggested by Deierlein was reviewed and a modified equation was proposed from the analysis of test result.Test result indicated that the equation to calculate the effective width in Deierlein’s design method didn’t consider effectively the influence caused by the variation of beam depth so that a modified equation was suggested and the validation of it was confirmed in this paper.展开更多
