The cubic B-splines taken as trial function, the large deflection of a circular plate with arbitrarily variable thickness,as well as the buckling load, have been calculated by the method of point collocation. The support can be elastic. Loads imposed can be polynomial distributed loads, uniformly distributed radial forces or moments along the edge respectively or their combinations. Convergent solutions can still be obtained by this method under the load whose value is in great excess of normal one. Under the action of the uniformly distributed loads, linear solutions of circular plates with linearly or quadratically variable thickness are compared with those obtained by the parameter method. Buckling of a circular plate with identical thickness beyond critical thrust is compared with those obtained by the power series method. 展开更多

This paper investigates the bending fracture problem of a micro/nanoscale cantilever thin plate with surface energy,where the clamped boundary is partially debonded along the thickness direction.Some fundamental mechanical equations for the bending problem of micro/nanoscale plates are given by the Kirchhoff theory of thin plates,incorporating the Gurtin-Murdoch surface elasticity theory.For two typical cases of constant bending moment and uniform shear force in the debonded segment,the associated problems are reduced to two mixed boundary value problems.By solving the resulting mixed boundary value problems using the Fourier integral transform,a new type of singular integral equation with two Cauchy kernels is obtained for each case,and the exact solutions in terms of the fundamental functions are determined using the PoincareBertrand formula.Asymptotic elastic fields near the debonded tips including the bending moment,effective shear force,and bulk stress components exhibit the oscillatory singularity.The dependence relations among the singular fields,the material constants,and the plate's thickness are analyzed for partially debonded cantilever micro-plates.If surface energy is neglected,these results reduce the bending fracture of a macroscale partially debonded cantilever plate,which has not been previously reported. 展开更多

Assuming the material properties varying with an exponential law both in the thick- ness and radial directions, axisymmetric bending of two-directional functionally graded circular and annular plates is studied using the semi-analytical numerical method in this paper. The deflections and stresses of the plates are presented. Numerical results show the well accuracy and convergence of the method. Compared with the finite element method, the semi-analytical nu- merical method is with great advantage in the computational efficiency. Moreover, study on ax- isymmetric bending of two-directional functionally graded annular plate shows that such plates have better performance than those made of isotropic homogeneous materials or one-directional functionally graded materials. Two-directional functionally graded material is a potential alternative to the one-directional functionally graded material. And the integrated design of materials and structures can really be achieved in two-directional functionally graded materials. 展开更多

This paper considers the pure bending problem of simply supported transversely isotropic circular plates with elastic compliance coefficients being arbitrary functions of the thickness coordinate. First, the partial differential equation, which is satisfied by the stress functions for the axisymmetric deformation problem is derived. Then, stress functions are obtained by proper manipulation. The analytical expressions of axial force, bending moment and displacements are then deduced through integration. And then, stress functions are employed to solve problems of transversely isotropic functionally graded circular plate, with the integral constants completely determined from boundary conditions. An elasticity solution for pure bending problem, which coincides with the available solution when degenerated into the elasticity solutions for homogenous circular plate, is thus obtained. A numerical example is finally presented to show the effect of material inhomogeneity on the elastic field in a simply supported circular plate of transversely isotropic functionally graded material (FGM). 展开更多

With the terms of the exact series solution taken as trial functions, the method of point collocation was used to calculate the large deflection of a circular plate. The axisymmetrical bending formulae were developed for the calculation of a circular plate subjected to polynomial distributed loads, a concentrated load at the center, uniform radial forces and moments along the edge or their combinations. The support may be elastic. The buckling load was calculated. Under action of uniformly distributed load, central load or their compound load, solutions were compared with those obtained by other methods. Buckling beyond critical thrust was compared with that calculated by the power series method. The method presented in this paper has advantages of wide convergent range, high precision and short computing time. Moreover, the computing time is nearly independent of the complexity of the loads. 展开更多

The non-linear dynamic behaviors of thermoelastic circular plate with varying thickness subjected to radially uniformly distributed follower forces are considered. Two coupled non-linear differential equations of motion for this problem are derived in terms of the transverse deflection and radial displacement component of the mid-plane of the plate. Using the Kantorovich averaging method, the differential equation of mode shape of the plate is derived, and the eigenvalue problem is solved by using shooting method. The eigencurves for frequencies and critical loads of the circular plate with unmovable simply supported edge and clamped edge are obtained. The effects of the variation of thickness and temperature on the frequencies and critical loads of the thermoelastic circular plate subjected to radially uniformly distributed follower forces are then discussed. 展开更多

Circular plates with radially varying thickness, stiffness, and density are widely used for the structural optimization in engineering. The axisymmetric flexural free vibration of such plates, governed by coupled differential equations with variable coefficients by use of the Mindlin plate theory, is very difficult to be studied analytically. In this paper, a novel analytical method is proposed to reduce such governing equations for circular plates to a pair of uncoupled and easily solvable differential equations of the Sturm-Liouville type. There are two important parameters in the reduced equations. One describes the radial variations of the translational inertia and fiexural rigidity with the consideration of the effect of Poisson's ratio. The other reflects the comprehensive effect of the rotatory inertia and shear deformation. The Heun-type equations, recently well-known in physics, are introduced here to solve the flexural free vibration of circular plates analytically, and two basic differential formulae for the local Heun-type functions are discovered for the first time, which will be of great value in enriching the theory of Heun-type differential equations. 展开更多

The support could be elastic. A sandwich plate was assumed to be Reissner model. The formulae were developed for the calculation of a circular sandwich plate subjected to polynomial distributed loads, uniformly distributed moments, radial pressure or radial prestress along the edge and their combination. Buckling load was calculated for the first time by nonlinear theory. Under action of uniformly distributed loads, results were compared with that obtained by the power series method. This paper is concerned with the nonlinear vibration problems of circular plates with variable thickness.The nonlinear equations of plates with variable thickness are extended to the dynamic case.The resulting equations can be solved by using an iterative method,a Galerkin's approach and a perturbation method.Detailed solutions and numerical results are given for two kinds of boundary conditions,the clamped edge and the supported edge.The results show that the solutions for the case of the plates with uniform thickness can be included in the solution herin as a special case.The effect of various thickness parameters is investigated in detail.Also,a Runge Kutta method is used to solve the free and forced vibrations of plates with variable thickness,and the results are obtained firstly.It has shown that the adoption of variable thickness plate would be useful in engineering design. 展开更多

Based on the three-dimensional elasticity equations, this paper studies the elastic bending response of a transversely isotropic functionally graded solid circular plate subject to transverse biharmonic forces applied on its top surface. The material prop- erties can continuously and arbitrarily vary along the thickness direction. By virtue of the generalized England's method, the problem can be solved by determining the expres- sions of four analytic functions. Expanding the transverse loarl in Fourier series along the circumferential direction eases the theoretical construction of the four analytic functions for a series of important biharmonic loads. Certain boundary conditions are then used to determine the unknown constants that are involved in the four constructed analytic functions. Numerical examples are presented to validate the proposed method. Then, we scrutinize the asymmetric bending behavior of a transversely isotropic functionally graded solid circular plate with different geometric and material parameters. 展开更多

In this paper, a new method, the exact analytic method, is presented on the basis of step reduction method. By this method, the general solution for the bending of nonhomogenous circular plates and circular plates with a circular hole at the center resting, on an elastfc foundation is obtained under arbitrary axial symmetrical loads' and boundary conditions. The uniform convergence of the solution is proved. This general solution can also he applied directly to the bending of circular plates without elastic foundation. Finally, it is only necessary to solve a set of binary linear algebraic equation. Numerical examples are given at the end of this paper which indicate satisfactory results of stress resultants and displacements can be obtained by the present method. 展开更多
