It is difficult to accurately obtain the permeability of complex lithologic reservoirs using conventional methods because they have diverse pore structures and complex seepage mechanisms.Based on in-depth analysis of the limitation of classical nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)permeability calculation models, and the understanding that the pore structure and porosity are the main controlling factors of permeability, this study provides a new permeability calculation method involving classifying pore sizes by using NMR T_2 spectrum first and then calculating permeability of different sizes of pores.Based on this idea, taking the bioclastic limestone reservoir in the A oilfield of Mid-East as an example, the classification criterion of four kinds of pore sizes:coarse, medium, fine and micro throat, was established and transformed into NMR T_2 standard based on shapes and turning points of mercury intrusion capillary pressure curves. Then the proportions of the four kinds of pore sizes were obtained precisely based on the NMR logging data.A new NMR permeability calculation model of multicomponent pores combinations was established based on the contributions of pores in different sizes. The new method has been used in different blocks. The results show that the new method is more accurate than the traditional ones. 展开更多

Bioclastic shoal reservoir in Changxing Formation of Jiannan area is characterized by small thickness and strong heterogeneity. The uncertainty of the reservoir distribution pattern has confined the effective development of this area, so the accurate bioclastic shoal reservoir prediction would be the key to achieve development breakthroughs. Based on drilling, well-log, seismic and core analysis data, this article conducted exquisite sequence stratigraphic classification and established isochronal regional stratigraphic framework of Changxing Formation in Jiannan area. The reservoir seismic corresponding features were determined by exquisite calibrating bioclastic shoal reservoir in Changxing Formation. Therefore, seismic processing methods, such as multiple attribute analysis and amplitude inversion, were applied to attain more reliable reservoir prediction results, which indicated the distribution of vertical reservoir in SSQ2, the IV sequence order and the distribution of horizontal reservoir around Well J43 and JZ1 in the platform margin of the study area. 展开更多

This study focuses on the analysis of a carbonate bioclastic pocket beach located along a coastal sector of the Apulia Ionian Sea,Le Dune beach,South Italy. The beach develops for about 800 m and it is exposed to the south-westerly and southerly seas.Coastal sediments range from very coarse to medium-fine sands and they are mainly composed of bioclasts(more than 90%)which include molluscs, foraminifers, echinoderms, algae branched, bryozoans, spicules of sponges and arthropods. The study area is one part of a marine protected reserve characterised by 15 different habitats of the typical Mediterranean submerged populations and the presence of Posidonia oceanica meadows. The aim of our research is to highlight the correlation between physical and biological processes influencing Le Dune beach dynamics and its sediment provenance by analysing the textural and compositional characteristics of beach sands, which is fundamental for pocket beach conservation. The beach sand analysis, deriving from textural, compositional and bioclast investigations, underlines that one of the main indicators of the beach dynamics is the bioclast component, which provides relevant information about sand provenance and sediment transport. The beach constitutes a semi-close system only nourished by the shells of organisms and by the erosion of headlands and dunes without important sediment interchange with adjacent littoral sectors. 展开更多

This discussion of a paper by Van Loon et al.(2016), published in the Journal of Palaeogeography(2016, 5(4), 381e390), is aimed at illustrating that there are fundamental deficiencies, which include(1)incomplete etymological reasoning for proposing a new genetic term "tomboliths" for stromatolitic bioclasts in the Palaeoproterozoic Chaibasa Formation, eastern India,(2) omission of empirical data in documenting depositional facies using sedimentological logs,(3) misapplication of the stratigraphic concept of "angular unconformity",(4) failure to consider the multifarious origins of earthquakes, and(5) a dated view on the basic tenets of process sedimentology and triggering mechanisms of liquefaction that are the basis for forming soft-sediment deformation structures(SSDS). As a consequence, their conclusions are unconvincing. 展开更多

Van Loon et al.'s paper "The response of stromatolites to seismic shocks: Tomboliths from the Palaeoproterozoic Chaibasa Formation, E India" with a new term "tomboliths" and original viewpoints should be published, but some contents need to be discussed. Shanmugam's paper "The response of stromatolites to seismic shocks: Tomboliths from the Palaeoproterozoic Chaibasa Formation, E India: Discussion and liquefaction basics" pointed out some queries and problems about Van Loon et al.'s paper. It is an academic discussion paper and should be published as well. However, some main problems, such as the new term"tomboliths" and its origin of seismic shocks, "whether stromatolites or tomboliths are soft-sediment deformation structures or not", etc., also need to be discussed. Academic discussion is an effective measure to promote scientific development. The more thorough academic discussions are carried out regarding academic problems, the more scientific facts and truths will become clear. All participants in this discussion are contributors. It is active to carry out the policy of "A hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend" by our Journal of Palaeogeography. 展开更多
