Image output by computer is done row by row,the shortcoming of which is that we cannot know the topological relations between points at the image boundary.To obtain the closed boundary of the target from an image and turn points' row permutation of boundary into sequence permutation,an algorithm based on 4-connection relation of pixel points is proposed and the analysis of its correctness and complexity is given.Compared with classical operators and existing method,the single pixel boundary extracted from gray images by this algorithm is more complete and more distinct.Moreover,it has a lower time complexity and can eliminate the noise inside and outside the target area.The obtained sequence permutation of points is also conducive to follow-up image processing. 展开更多

The method first extracts the boundary of nature village by aggregating the resident polygon, then extracts the boundary of administrative village by aggregating the boundary of nature village, and last extracts the boundary of town by aggregating the boundary of administrative village. The related methods of extracting the boundary of those three levels rural habitation has been given in detail during the experiment with basic geographic information data and geographic name data. Boundary extraction of watershed is an important step in forest landscape research. The boundary of the upriver wa-tershed of the Hunhe River in the sub-alpine Qingyuan County of eastern Liaoning Province, China was extracted by digital elevation modeling (DEM) data in ArcInfo8.1. Remote sensing image of the corresponding region was applied to help modify its copy according to Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM) image抯 profuse geomorphological structure information. Both the DEM-dependent boundary and modified copy were overlapped with county map and drainage network map to visually check the effects of result. Overlap of county map suggested a nice extraction of the boundary line since the two layers matched precisely, which indicated the DEM-dependent boundary by program was effective and precise. Further upload of drainage network showed discrepancies between the boundary and the drainage network. Altogether, there were three sections of the extraction result that needed to correct. Compared with this extraction boundary, the modified boundary had a better match to the drainage network as well as to the county map. Comprehensive analysis demonstrated that the program extraction has generally fine precision in position and excels the digitized result by hand. The errors of the DEM-dependant extraction are due to the fact that it is difficult for program to recognize sections of complex landform especially altered by human activities, but these errors are discernable and adjustable because the spatial resolution of ETM image is less than that of DEM. This study result proved that application of remote sensing information could help obtain better result when DEM method is used in extraction of watershed boundary. 展开更多

Glacier area change and its impact on runoff in the Manas River Basin,Northwest China from 2000 to 2020

Understanding the distribution and dynamics of glaciers is of great significance to the management and allocation of regional water resources and socio-economic development in arid regions of Northwest China.In this study,based on 36 Landsat images,we extracted the glacier boundaries in the Manas River Basin,Northwest China from 2000 to 2020 using eCognition combined with band operation,GIS(geographic information system)spatial overlay techniques,and manual visual interpretation.We further analyzed the distribution and variation characteristics of glacier area,and simulated glacial runoff using a distributed degree-day model to explore the regulation of runoff recharge.The results showed that glacier area in the Manas River Basin as a whole showed a downward trend over the past 21 a,with a decrease of 10.86%and an average change rate of–0.54%/a.With the increase in glacier scale,the number of smaller glaciers decreased exponentially,and the number and area of larger glaciers were relatively stable.Glacier area showed a normal distribution trend of increasing first and then decreasing with elevation.About 97.92%of glaciers were distributed at 3700–4800 m,and 48.11%of glaciers were observed on the northern and northeastern slopes.The retreat rate of glaciers was the fastest(68.82%)at elevations below 3800 m.There was a clear rise in elevation at the end of glaciers.Glaciers at different slope directions showed a rapid melting trend from the western slope to the southern slope then to the northern slope.Glacial runoff in the basin showed a fluctuating upward trend in the past 21 a,with an increase rate of 0.03×10^(8) m^(3)/a.The average annual glacial runoff was 4.80×10^(8) m^(3),of which 33.31%was distributed in the ablation season(June–September).The average annual contribution rate of glacial meltwater to river runoff was 35.40%,and glacial runoff accounted for 45.37%of the total runoff during the ablation season.In addition,precipitation and glacial runoff had complementary regulation patterns for river runoff.The findings can provide a scientific basis for water resource management in the Manas River Basin and other similar arid inland river basins. 展开更多

In this paper, we propose an automatic method to extract the height of buildings in high resolution satellite imagery based on the length of shadow. Taking into account the limitation of traditional algorithms, we make use of the boundary information of a building to facilitate detecting and matching the shadow regions with higher accuracy. Then, we introduce a shadow-cast model to correct the shadow location in our system. The experimental result shows that when extracting the height of buildings from complex urban regions, our method has better accuracy. 展开更多

Taking a typical inland wetland of Honghe National Nature Reserve (HNNR), Northeast China, as the study area, this paper studied the application of L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image in extracting eco-hydrological information of inland wetland. Landsat-5 TM and ALOS PALSAR HH backscatter images were first fused by using the wavelet-IHS method. Based on the fused image data, the classification method of support vector machines was used to map the wetland in the study area. The overall mapping accuracy is 77.5%. Then, the wet and dry aboveground biomass estimation models, including statistical models and a Rice Cloudy model, were established. Optimal parameters for the Rice Cloudy model were calculated in MATLAB by using the least squares method. Based on the validation results, it was found that the Rice Cloudy model produced higher accuracy for both wet and dry aboveground biomass estimation compared to the statistical models. Finally, subcanopy water boundary information was extracted from the HH backscatter image by threshold method. Compared to the actual water borderline result, the extracted result from L-band SAR image is reliable. In this paper, the HH-HV phase difference was proved to be valueless for extracting subcanopy water boundary information. 展开更多

Automation of rubber tree clone classification has inspired research into new methods of leaf feature extraction.In current practice,rubber clone inspectors has been using several leaf features to identify clone types.One of the unique features of rubber tree leaf is palmate leaflets.This characteristic generates different leaflet positions,where the leaves are overlapping or separated.In this research,we propose keypoint extraction and line detection methods to extract shape and axil(angle between petioles)features of leaflet positions.The results of keypoint extraction methods,namely,SIFT,Harris,and FAST,were compared and discussed for shape feature extraction.Next,Hough transformation and boundary-tracing methods were compared to identify the suitable axil detection method.The evaluation result demonstrates the proper keypoint extraction method for shape context and the clear advantages of Hough Transformation in accuracy of angle detection. 展开更多
