The joint roughness coefficient (JRC), introduced in Barton (1973) represented a new method in rock mechanics and rock engineering to deal with problems related to joint roughness and shear strength estimation. It has the advantages of its simple form, easy estimation, and explicit consideration of scale effects, which make it the most widely accepted parameter for roughness quantification since it was proposed. As a result, JRC has attracted the attention of many scholars who have developed JRC-related methods in many areas, such as geological engineering, multidisciplinary geosciences, mining mineral processing, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and water resources. Because of such a developing trend, an overview of JRC is presented here to provide a clear perspective on the concepts, methods, applications, and trends related to its extensions. This review mainly introduces the origin and connotation of JRC, JRC-related roughness measurement, JRC estimation methods, JRC-based roughness characteristics investigation, JRC-based rock joint property description, JRC's influence on rock mass properties, and JRC-based rock engineering applications. Moreover, the representativeness of the joint samples and the determination of the sampling interval for rock joint roughness measurements are discussed. In the future, the existing JRC-related methods will likely be further improved and extended in rock engineering. 展开更多

This study considers P.O42.5 cement from different sources and evaluates the related surplus coefficient(defined as the proportionality factor linking the measured compressive strength value of the cement after 28 days to the“standard”value of cement strength).The needed tests have been conducted using a mixer,a pressure testing machine,a flexural testing machine,a vibrating table a ramming rod,a feeder and a metal ruler.The average value of the measured cement strength surplus coefficient of cement produced by five distinct cement manufacturers has been found to be 1.16.These results can be used as the basis to reduce the production cost and improve the performance of commercial concrete. 展开更多

There have been a great demand for a suitable and convenient method in the field of buckling analysis of stiffened ship structures, which is essential to structural safety assessment and is significantly time-consuming. Modeling, buckling behaviors and ultimate strength prediction of stiffened panels were investigated. The modeling specification including nonlinear finite element model and imperfections generation, and post-buckling analysis procedure of stiffened plates were demonstrated. And a software tool using set-based finite element method was developed and executed in the MSC. Marc environment. Different types of stiffen panels of marine structures have been employed to investigate the buckling behavior and assess the validity in the estimation of ultimate strength. A comparison between results of the generally accepted methods, experiments and the software tool developed was demonstrated. It is shown that the software tool can predict the ultimate capacity of stiffened panels with imperfections with a good accuracy. 展开更多

Pipelines in geological disaster regions typically suffer the risk of local buckling failure because of slender structure and complex load. This paper is meant to reveal the local buckling behavior of buried pipelines with a large diameter and high strength, which are under different conditions, including pure bending and bending combined with internal pressure. Finite element analysis was built according to previous data to study local buckling behavior of pressurized and unpressurized pipes under bending conditions and their differences in local buckling failure modes. In parametric analysis, a series of parameters,including pipe geometrical dimension, pipe material properties and internal pressure, were selected to study their influences on the critical bending moment, critical compressive stress and critical compressive strain of pipes.Especially the hardening exponent of pipe material was introduced to the parameter analysis by using the Ramberg–Osgood constitutive model. Results showed that geometrical dimensions, material and internal pressure can exert similar effects on the critical bending moment and critical compressive stress, which have different, even reverse effects on the critical compressive strain. Based on these analyses, more accurate design models of critical bending moment and critical compressive stress have been proposed for high-strength pipelines under bendingconditions, which provide theoretical methods for highstrength pipeline engineering. 展开更多

The influence of coarse aggregate content on concrete properties was investigated.From the perspective of Frame Concrete Theory,six groups concrete were produced with the same proportion except for coarse aggregate content,with coarse aggregate content of 0%,40%,50%,60%,75%,and 80%,respectively.Slump,compressive and flexural tensile strengths,elastic modulus,and water penetration were tested to research the effect of coarse aggregate content on concrete.The experimental results reveal that slump reduces with increasing of coarse aggregate content,while compressive strength,elastic modulus and flexural tensile strength increase with the coarse aggregate content increasing,and water penetration reduces with coarse aggregate content increasing before 75% then increased.Workability,strength,durability and economical indexes system were established to optimize the coarse aggregate content in concrete based on efficacy coefficient method.The optimization results show that when coarse aggregate content is 60%,the system efficacy coefficient reaches to 0.89,and it expresses the better comprehensive performance. 展开更多

This study evaluated the adhesion of zirconia core ceramics with their corresponding veneering ceramics, having different thermal expansion coefficients (TECs), when zirconia ceramics were coloured at green stage. Zirconia blocks (N=240; 6 mm x 7 mm x 7 mm) were manufactured from two materials namely, ICE Zirconia (Group 1) and Prettau Zirconia (Group 2). In their green stage, they were randomly divided into two groups. Half of the specimens were coloured with colouring liquid (shade A2), Three different veneering ceramics with different TEC (ICE Ceramic, GC Initial Zr and IPS e.max Ceram) were fired on both coloured and non-coloured zirconia cores. Specimens of high noble alloys (Esteticor Plus) veneered with ceramic (VM 13) (n= 16) acted as the control group. Core-veneer interface of the specimens were subjected to shear force in the Universal Testing Machine (0.5 mm-min-1). Neither the zirconia core material (P=0.318) nor colouring (P=0.188) significantly affected the results (three-way analysis of variance, Tukey's test). But the results were significantly affected by the veneering ceramic (P=0.000). Control group exhibited significantly higher mean bond strength values (45.7__.8) MPa than all other tested groups ((27.1__.4.1)-(39.7__.4.7) and (27.4__.5.6)-(35.9___4.7) MPa with and without colouring, respectively) (P^0.001). While in zirconia-veneer test groups, predominantly mixed type of failures were observed with the veneering ceramic covering ~ 1/3 of the substrate surface, in the metal-ceramic group, veneering ceramic was left adhered 1/3 of the metal surface. Colouring zirconia did not impair adhesion of veneering ceramic, but veneering ceramic had a significant influence on the core-veneer adhesion. Metal-ceramic adhesion was more reliable than all zirconia-veneer ceramics tested. 展开更多

A computerized method for determining rock joint coefficients is presented.Two relative similarity indicators are introduced to classify surface morphology of rock joints.The classification enables to compare investigated and database rock joints.Such a comparison aims at finding the couple of surfaces that are distinguished by the highest dynamical conformity.The first absolute indicator results from the Fourier matrix and evaluates wavy shapes of surfaces.The second absolute indicator quantifies the heights of surface reliefs and is defined as the root mean square height of the surface outline.Numerical reliability of these indicators is tested within the surface analysis of a series of limestone specimens.Besides the computerized assessment,25 people have performed visual assessment of these limestone specimens.The results of visual assessments have been statistically processed and compared to the results received from the computerized procedure.The newly introduced absolute indicators have proved to be prospective numerical tools for evaluating joint rock coefficients. 展开更多

In the present research,results of buckling analysis of 384 finite element models,verified using three different test results obtained from three separate experimental investigations,were used to study the effects of five parameters such as D/t,L/D,imperfection,mesh size and mesh size ratio.Moreover,proposed equations by offshore structural standards concerning global and local buckling capacity of tubular members including former API RP 2A WSD and recent API RP 2A LRFD,ISO 19902,and NORSOK N-004 have been compared to FE and experimental results.One of the most crucial parts in the estimation of the capacity curve of offshore jacket structures is the correct modeling of compressive members to properly investigate the interaction of global and local buckling which leads to the correct estimation of performance levels and ductility.Achievement of the proper compressive behavior of tubular members validated by experimental data is the main purpose of this paper.Modeling of compressive braces of offshore jacket platforms by 3D shell or solid elements can consider buckling modes and deformations due to local buckling.ABAQUS FE software is selected for FE modeling.The scope of action of each of elastic buckling,plastic buckling,and compressive yielding for various L/r ratios is described.Furthermore,the most affected part of each parameter on the buckling capacity curve is specified.The pushover results of the Resalat Jacket with proper versus improper modeling of compressive members have been compared as a case study.According to the results,applying improper mesh size for compressive members can under-predict the ductility by 33%and under-estimate the lateral loading capacity by up to 8%.Regarding elastic stiffness and post-buckling strength,the mesh size ratio is introduced as the most effective parameter.Besides,imperfection is significantly the most important parameter in terms of critical buckling load. 展开更多

This paper uses a mathematical method to develop an analytical solution to the local buckling behaviour of long rectangular plates resting on tensionless elastic Winkler foundations and under combined uniform longitudinal uniaxial compressive and uniform in-plane shear loads. Fitted formulas are derived for plates with clamped edges and simplified supported edges. Two examples are given to demonstrate the application of the current method: one is a plate on tensionless spring foundations and the other is the contact between the steel sheet and elastic solid foundation. Finite element (FE) analysis is also conducted to validate the analytical results. Good agreement is obtained between the current method and FE analysis. 展开更多

Due to the complexity of installations and connections of subsea production equipment and the massive structures involved in a challenging environment,the failure of subsea production equipment could induce enormous loss to the safety and reliability of structures in addition to the cost of the oilfield development.One of the challenges that the subsea production structures face,as it moves to ultra-deep water and polar underwater equipment,is to design subsea shell structures capable of withstanding high external pressures.Hence,a subsea function chamber(SFC)has been lately proposed as a viable solution,which has a high level of safety and reliability,and a technique for the subsea production system.This paper presents a general and efficient buckling and collapse analysis strategy.In this work,the SFC is composed of cylindrical and hemispherical shaped steel material.Initial imperfection-based nonlinear buckling analysis has been carried out to investigate the buckling and risks associated with different thicknesses of the structure.Linear and nonlinear static buckling analyses have been carried out using ABAQUS software.By introducing the nonlinear properties of materials,the nonlinear numerical model of SFC is established.The effects of the thickness of differentmodels and the number of stiffeners on the bucklingmodes are discussed.The wall thickness is calculated by the Donnell equation and Timoshenko’s classical method.It has been found that the classical solutions given by the Donnell and Timoshenko equations are more accurate for structures with larger lengths and diam.The thickness and number of stiffeners have a great influence on the ultimate buckling external pressure load of SFC structure. 展开更多

Pitting corrosion often occurs due to the presence of various corrosive substances,such as CO_(2) and H_(2)S,in the pipe service environment.As a result of this process,the residual strength of oil pipes is reduced and this can compromise the integrity of the entire pipe string.In the present work,a model is introduced on the basis of the API579 standard to determine the so-called stress concentration coefficient.The model accounts for pitting corrosion shapes such as shallow semi-circles,semi-circles,and deep semi-circles.The relationship between the corrosion pit depth and opening diameter and the residual strength of the oil casing is obtained.The results show that the influence of the pit opening diameter on the stress concentration coefficient is smaller than that of the pit depth.For a constant pit opening diameter,the coefficient increases gradually with increasing the pit depth.The compressive strength and internal pressure strength of the carbon steel oil casing decrease accordingly.When the depth of the corrosion pit is relatively small,the growth of the coefficient is slower;when the depth of the corrosion pit increases to a certain value,the increase in stress concentration coefficient becomes obvious. 展开更多

本文采集了不同轧制温度、应变速率以及压下量等三个工艺参数下中高应变速率轧制的AZ31镁合金抗拉强度的27组样本,通过惯性权重、学习因子的改进和引入变异操作对PSO-BP神经网络进行改进,并与BP、PSO-BP神经网络对比,进行抗拉强度的预... 本文采集了不同轧制温度、应变速率以及压下量等三个工艺参数下中高应变速率轧制的AZ31镁合金抗拉强度的27组样本,通过惯性权重、学习因子的改进和引入变异操作对PSO-BP神经网络进行改进,并与BP、PSO-BP神经网络对比,进行抗拉强度的预测。结果表明:BP神经网络不能预测AZ31镁合金抗拉强度的非线性变化,PSO-BP神经网络和改进的PSO-BP(IPSO-BP)神经网络均能较好地预测AZ31镁合金抗拉强度的非线性变化;这三个模型中IPSO-BP神经网络预测最为准确,相较于PSO-BP神经网络,其平均绝对误差从15.3764降低至3.4288,平均相对误差从5.94%降低至1.32%,均方误差从251.3662降低至20.7199,相关系数从0.7753提高至0.8937;通过Pearson相关性计算判断出应变速率、压下量对抗拉强度的影响均大于轧制温度,而应变速率与抗拉强度呈负相关关系,压下量与抗拉强度呈正相关关系。 展开更多

三轴加载条件下含水率对煤体力学特性影响的试验研究

含水率对煤体力学特性具有重要影响,为深入探讨三轴加载条件下含水率在煤体力学中的作用机制,选择平顶山矿区代表性煤样并设置不同含水率水平的试验组,开展了不同含水煤样的单轴压缩试验和不同围压条件下的含水煤样三轴压缩试验,并对不... 含水率对煤体力学特性具有重要影响,为深入探讨三轴加载条件下含水率在煤体力学中的作用机制,选择平顶山矿区代表性煤样并设置不同含水率水平的试验组,开展了不同含水煤样的单轴压缩试验和不同围压条件下的含水煤样三轴压缩试验,并对不同含水煤样进行应力-应变关系、抗压强度等方面的综合性能测试。结果表明:不同围压条件下,含水煤体的应力-应变曲线呈现相同趋势。三轴加载条件下,含水煤体轴向方向的应力-应变曲线与单轴加载时的煤体轴向方向的应力-应变曲线形式相同。相同含水率条件下,不同围压的试验煤样出现应力峰值时的轴向应变略有不同,整体呈现围压越大,其出现应力峰值对应的轴向应变越小。整个加载过程中,试验煤样轴向应变始终为正值,即煤体轴向方向发生轴向压缩变形,与此同时,试验煤样径向产生膨胀变形。单轴/三轴加载条件下,随着含水率增加,峰值强度整体呈降低,含水率与峰值强度呈一元二次函数关系。随着围压增加,峰值强度整体呈下降趋势。随着含水率增加,岩石软化系数整体呈现降低趋势。含水率与软化系数呈一元二次函数关系。研究结果为平顶山矿区煤炭资源的合理开发和利用提供了科学依据。 展开更多

冷弯不等肢复杂卷边角钢轴压试验及承载力设计方法

为研究冷弯薄壁不等肢复杂卷边角钢屈曲性能和稳定承载力设计方法,对24根不同截面、长细比、宽厚比的不等肢复杂卷边角钢进行了轴压试验。试验结果表明,长细比较大且宽厚比较小的试件易发生弯扭屈曲,长细比较小而宽厚比较大的试件易发... 为研究冷弯薄壁不等肢复杂卷边角钢屈曲性能和稳定承载力设计方法,对24根不同截面、长细比、宽厚比的不等肢复杂卷边角钢进行了轴压试验。试验结果表明,长细比较大且宽厚比较小的试件易发生弯扭屈曲,长细比较小而宽厚比较大的试件易发生局部屈曲或弯扭和局部相关屈曲。采用ABAQUS有限元软件对试件进行了有限元模拟,屈曲模式和承载力与试验结果吻合良好,表明建立的有限元分析模型是可行的。因此可采用经验证的有限元模型对不同长细比、卷边形式和卷边比的轴心受压不等肢复杂卷边角钢进行了参数化分析。结果表明,试件极限承载力受长细比的影响最为明显,将卷边比控制在一定范围内或改变卷边形式可提高试件极限承载力。最后将试验结果与直接强度法计算结果进行对比,表明直接强度法计算试件承载力较不安全。因此基于试验和数值分析结果提出轴心受压冷弯薄壁不等肢复杂卷边角钢构件考虑整体屈曲后强度的直接强度法修正公式,并通过对比试验结果和有限元分析结果验证了该修正公式的准确性和可行性。 展开更多

钢板桩围堰适用于深水、滩涂等复杂地质,对钢板桩围堰打桩及工作过程进行了稳定性分析。采用Fluent软件对不同工况下打桩过程进行流体动力学研究并计算其动载荷。并对钢板桩稳定性进行了校核。提出流体动力学和固体力学相结合的打桩过... 钢板桩围堰适用于深水、滩涂等复杂地质,对钢板桩围堰打桩及工作过程进行了稳定性分析。采用Fluent软件对不同工况下打桩过程进行流体动力学研究并计算其动载荷。并对钢板桩稳定性进行了校核。提出流体动力学和固体力学相结合的打桩过程稳定性分析方法。采用ANSYS屈曲分析外压载荷作用下围堰整体结构的稳定性。结果表明:动载荷受幂律指数、稠度系数及静载荷的综合影响,稠度系数与流体黏度呈线性关系,幂律指数体现了流体的非牛顿性,而不同载荷作用下流体黏度也会发生变化,需结合屈曲分析结果、打桩时间等综合选择适宜打桩力。采用特征值屈曲分析和非线性屈曲分析得到的围堰临界失稳应力较为接近,非线性屈曲分析考虑了材料的非线性,包含塑性变形成分,因此临界失稳应力更大。 展开更多
