Effectiveness of Activity Expression in VR System to Build Consensus for Public Space Planning

The objective of this study was to clarify the effectiveness of expressing activities in a virtual reality(VR)system for public space planning to support consensus building with citizens,based on the idea that it is important to consider people’s activities when creating attractive public spaces.We constructed a VR system comprising a background expressed in 3D computer graphics(3DCG)and activities expressed in real video image.As a result of the evaluation experiment,it became easier to visualize the utilization of space by expressing an activity.Although its effectiveness was clarified,some problems regarding the functioning of the system were highlighted.

Draft Consensus Building in Hall for Workshop of Meta-Synthetic Engineering

This paper discusses that there are two sorts of group consensus in Hall for Workshop of Meta-synthetic Engineering： draft consensus and decisive consensus, which are respectively formed in the two synchronous stages in the process of ＂synchronous stages 1- asynchronous stages- synchronous stages 2＂, and focuses on the concept of draft consensus. Then proposes a draft consensus building model and its solution method called Consensus Building Graph, by which claim concern value, claim support value, claim authority value and claim consensus value can be calculated real time for reaching a consensus, and designs a computer aided consensus building system called Internet based Group Discussion Environment. The model follows the methodology of meta-synthesis from qualitative to quantitative analysis in which computers and humans are combined to solve complex problems.

Building Community Consensus for Scientific Metadata with YAMZ

This paper reports on a demonstration of YAMZ(Yet Another Metadata Zoo)as a mechanism for building community consensus around metadata terms.The demonstration is motivated by the complexity of the metadata standards environment and the need for more user-friendly approaches for researchers to achieve vocabulary consensus.The paper reviews a series of metadata standardization challenges,explores crowdsourcing factors that offer possible solutions,and introduces the YAMZ system.A YAMZ demonstration is presented with members of the Toberer materials science laboratory at the Colorado School of Mines,where there is a need to confirm and maintain a shared understanding for the vocabulary supporting research documentation,data management,and their larger metadata infrastructure.The demonstration involves three key steps:1)Sampling terms for the demonstration,2)Engaging graduate student researchers in the demonstration,and 3)Reflecting on the demonstration.The results of these steps,including examples of the dialog provenance among lab members and voting,show the ease with YAMZ can facilitate building metadata vocabulary consensus.The conclusion discusses implications and highlights next steps.
