Internationalization of Higher Education:A Critical Literature Review of the UK Outward Student Mobility

The outward student mobility has been recognized as an instrument for the internationalization of higher education(IHE)world-widely and in the UK.This paper intends to critically review the existing literature in order to identify the current trend and issues of the UK outward student mobility under the IHE.It points out that the focus of current international educational activities is attracting foreign/inward students out of the economic impetus in the UK.Consequently,the outward student mobility is given the less recognition than the inward one in the UK policy-making and researches,which could lead the imbalanced gains for UK-domiciled students.Thus,it suggests that both the UK government education sectors and institutions should more develop the outward student mobility;moreover,future researches could investigate more about outward students’personal development.

Nonlinear correlation between RMB internationalization and nonferrous metal prices

The correlation between Renminbi(RMB) internationalization and nonferrous metal prices was studied using the nonlinear Granger causality test and the dynamic conditional correlation-generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic(DCC-GARCH) model. The results indicate that the relationship between RMB internationalization and nonferrous metal prices reflects a complex nonlinear mechanism. There was no mutual influence between RMB internationalization and nonferrous metal prices prior to the trials of the RMB settlement in the cross-border trade in July 2009. Since then, however, a bidirectional causal relationship between RMB internationalization and the price of copper and a unidirectional causal relationship from the price of aluminum to RMB internationalization were examined. In addition, due to the impact of extreme events, such as economic and financial crises, RMB internationalization and nonferrous metal prices are not always positively correlated but are rather occasionally negatively correlated.

Progress and Prospects of RMB Internationalization in Latin America

Promoting the internationalization of the RMB in Latin America is not only a requirement of the China-Latin American relationship and of China’s reform and opening-up policy in the financial sectors, but is also a strategic choice. With the support of internal, external and bilateral factors,China and Latin American countries have seen a lot progress in RMB trade settlement, investment, financing, and so on, yet Latin American countries’ willingness to use the RMB is still low, there is an obvious shortage of exchange mechanisms, and currency cooperation between them may face more obstacles as China-US competition intensifies. Under these circumstances, in order to further promote the internationalization of the RMB in Latin America, China should seize the opportunity of Latin America’s participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and their demand for currency diversification, as well as the friction between the US-Latin American relationship, start reducing the shortage of institutional exchange mechanisms, and plan for the RMB internationalization process in Latin America at a strategic level.

Global trends in international research collaboration, 1980-2021

Purpose:The aim of this study is to analyze the evolution of international research collaboration from 1980 to 2021.The study examines the main global patterns as well as those specific to individual countries,country groups,and different areas of research.Design/methodology/approach:The study is based on the Web of Science Core collection database.More than 50 million publications are analyzed using co-authorship data.International collaboration is defined as publications having authors affiliated with institutions located in more than one country.Findings:At the global level,the share of publications representing international collaboration has gradually increased from 4.7%in 1980 to 25.7%in 2021.The proportion of such publications within each country is higher and,in 2021,varied from less than 30%to more than 90%.There are notable disparities in the temporal trends,indicating that the process of internationalization has impacted countries in different ways.Several factors such as country size,income level,and geopolitics may explain the variance.Research limitations:Not all international research collaboration results in joint co-authored scientific publications.International co-authorship is a partial indicator of such collaboration.Another limitation is that the applied full counting method does not take into account the number of authors representing in each country in the publication.Practical implications:The study provides global averages,indicators,and concepts that can provide a useful framework of reference for further comparative studies of international research collaboration.Originality/value:Long-term macro-level studies of international collaboration are rare,and as a novelty,this study includes an analysis by the World Bank’s division of countries into four income groups.

A geological and functional “three-step strategy” for renminbi's internationalization

Internationalization of the renminbi is the only option for China to fully integrate into the global economic and financial systems. It is not only necessary but imperative as well. The new path of RMB internationalization shall be achieved under the Belt and Road Initiative and be a new option that is di erent from the "Three-Stage Theory" and regional monetary cooperation. RMB internationalization can only be realized through a government-driven mode with Chinese characteristics which shows the fundamental di erence from the internationalization of other currencies such as the US Dollar, Euro and Japanese Yen. The Chinese government can realize the strategic objective of RMB internationalization through improving national governance, applying policies and tools for macroeconomic regulation, and implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the operation of its nancial industry, the Silk Road Fund(SRF), and that of regional banks like the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB) and the BRICS New Development Bank(NDB). RMB internationalization is an important objective of China's political and economic development. Efforts must be made to steadily promote market-oriented reform of the RMB exchange rate and its forming mechanism, and reform of capital account convertibility so that RMB can become the leading global reserve currency. Meanwhile, China will also undertake more responsibilities as a major power for stable development of the international economy and nance.

Strategic Analysis to Develop an Internationalization Plan for a Small Construction Company in Guanajuato,Mexico

Nowadays internationalization is no longer a luxury for companies and becomes a necessity in order to survive in the market and ensure its durability over time.This justifies the structure of a internationalization plan(IP)for a small company(SEC),in order to modify its value curve against the competition and guarantee a sustained growth development in new markets.This paper presents a strategic analysis of a small construction company dedicated to the elaboration of finishes for walls,floors,and concrete architecture.A situational analysis was carried out to see what would be the most appropriate international strategy for the company.Tools,such as:(a)SWOT(strengths,weaknesses,opportunities,threats)Analysis,(b)PEST(political,economic,social,and technological)Analysis,(c)Internal Factors Evaluation Matrix(IFE),and(d)External Factors Evaluation Matrix(EFE Assessment Matrix),were used to identify the current standing of the SEC.The canvas model and the competitive profile matrix were used to make the connection with the strategic position of the SEC against the desire of internationalization.Likewise,an analysis of the external factors was carried out showing a significant growth of 4.6%in the specialized sub-sector,as well as a tense business landscape driven by the political situation between Mexico and the United States.

Internationalization in Egypt： Risks and Opportunities

Despite of Egypt is facing a period of political uncertainty, some Italian firms have a great interest in operating business in Egypt. Egypt has bilateral agreements with Italy since 2007. As a result of this relation, Italy has become a strategic partner for Egypt, gaining a growing importance in the Middle East. Egypt is, also, an important trading partner for the Italy. Political and economic relationship between Egypt and Italy has increased the interest in analyzing risks and opportunities for Italian firms that would like to operate in Egypt. However studies focused on this topic are still missing. With the aim to fill this gap, this article presents a study based on face to face interviews to some Egyptian senior-executives who manage in Egypt productive centres and representative offices of Italian finns. These interviews led to evidence opportunities and risks that Italian firms have to face operating business in Egypt.

China's reform and opening-up policy,launched in 1978,marks the start of the internationalization process of its social security system.This paper takes the notion of "a community with a shared future" as the perspective to analyze the internationalization of social security in the process of China's reform and opening up.Based on China's developments in globalization,it divides the internationalization process of China's social security from 1978 to 2018 into three stages: the stage of reshaping the domestic social security system with reference to the best international practice; the stage of achieving bilateral or multilateral alignment on the premise of equality and mutual benefit,and the stage of injecting Chinese wisdom in social security into the development of global social security.The trajectory of the development of China's social security internationalization shows the incremental evolution within the country,between nations,and in the world community.This paper studies the internationalization process to show China's grand achievements in the four decades of reform and opening-up and to demonstrate Chinese wisdom and confidence.
