The shapely multilayer single pass horizontal joint could be obtairzed by using the rotating are welding process. The cold crack was not observed in the joint without controlling the heat input and selecting the consumables intentionally. Microstructure of the joint could be divided into three zones: base metal zone (BMZ) , heat-affected zone ( HAZ) and weld zone (WZ). Because of the characteristic of the rotating arc horizontal welding process, the defects in the joints were slag inclztsion formed at the interlayer of lower side wall. Tbe tensile strength and hardness of HAZ and WZ were larger than those of BMZ. The impact toughness in WZ, HAZ and BM at 0 % is equal to 11.5, 212 and 236 J, respectively.展开更多

This article presents the investigations of autogenous bead on plate and butt CO2 Laser Welding (LW) of 7 mm thick high-strength quenched and tempered low alloy SM570 (JIS) steel plates. The influence of laser welding parameters, mainly welding speed, defocusing distance and shielding gas flow rate on the weld profile, i.e., weld zone penetration depth and width, microstructure and mechanical properties of welded joints was determined. All welded joints showed smooth and uniform weld beads free from superficial porosity and undercuts. The selected best welding conditions were a laser power of 5.0 kW, welding speed of 500 mm/min, argon gas shielding flow rate of 30 L/min and a defocusing distance of -0.5 mm. It was observed that these conditions gave complete penetration and minimized the width of the weld bead. The microstructure of the welded joints was evaluated by light optical microscopy. The weld metal (WM) and heat-affected zone (HAZ) near weld metal achieved maximum hardness (355 HV). The tensile fractured samples showed the ductile mode of failure and ultimate tensile strength of 580 MPa.展开更多

The new steel aims to meet the demand of high strength, high toughness and high plasticity for building facilities. The effects of quenching process on microstructure and mechanical properties of tested steel were investigated. The results showed that prior austenite grain size, phase type and precipitation behavior of ( Nb, Ti) ( C, N) play important roles in mechanical properties of the steel. Through modified appropriately, the model of austenite grain growth during heating and holding is d^5.7778 = 5. 6478^5.7778 + 7.04 × 10^22t^1.6136 exp(- 427. 15 ×10^3 /(RT)). The grain growth activation energy is Qg = 427. 15 kJ. During quenching, the microscopic structures are mainly martensite and lath bainite which contains lots of lath substructure and dislocations. The content of phases, fine and coarsening ( Nb, Ti ) ( C, N ) precipitated changes during different quenching temperatures and holding time. Finally compared with the hardness value, the best quenching process can be obtained that heating temperature and holding time are 900 ℃ and 50 mins, respectively.展开更多

The results of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and tensile tests demon- strate that the microstructures primarily consist of lath martensite, retained austenite, lower bainite (LB), and a small amount of tempered martensite; moreover, few twin austenite grains were observed. In the microstrucmre, three types of retained austenite with different sizes and morphologies were observed: blocky retained austenite (-300 nm in width), film-like retained austenite (80-120 nm in width), and ul- tra-fine film-like retained austenite (30-40 nm in width). Because of the effect of the retained austenite/martensite/LB triplex microstructure, the specimens prepared using different quenching temperatures exhibit high ultimate tensile strength and yield strength. Furthermore, the strength effect of LB can partially counteract the decreasing strength effect of martensite. The formation of LB substantially reduces the amount of retained austenite. Analyses of the retained austenite and the amount of blocky retained austenite indicated that the carbon content is critical to the total elongation of Q&P steel.展开更多

The study results indicate that both steels' water-quenched microstructures are composed of austenite and a small amount of carbide. The study also found that, when the carbon contents are the same, there is less carbide in Mn18Cr2 steel than in Mn13Cr2 steel. Therefore, the hardness of Mn18Cr2 steel is lower than that of Mn13Cr2 steel but the impact toughness of Mn18Cr2 steel is higher than that of Mn13Cr2 steel. With increasing the carbon content, the hardness increases and the impact toughness decreases in these two kinds of steels, and the impact toughness of Mn18Cr2 steel substantially exceeds that of Mn13Cr2 steel. Therefore, the water-quenched Mn18Cr2 steel with high carbon content could be applied to relatively high impact abrasive working conditions, while the as-cast Mn18Cr2 steel could be only used under working conditions of relatively low impact abrasive load due to lower impact toughness.展开更多

A...In this work, low-carbon steel specimens were subjected to the quenching and partitioning process after being partially or fully austenitized to investigate their microstructural evolution and mechanical properties. According to the results of scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy observations, X-ray diffraction analysis, and tensile tests, upper bainite or tempered martensite appears successively in the microstructure with increasing austenitization temperature or increasing partitioning time. In the partially austenitized specimens, the retained austenite grains are carbon-enriched twice during the heat treatment, which can significantly stabilize the phases at room temperature. Furthermore, after partial austenitization, the specimen exhibits excellent elongation, with a maximum elongation of 37.1%. By contrast, after full austenitization, the specimens exhibit good ultimate tensile strength and high yield strength. In the case of a specimen with a yield strength of 969 MPa, the maximum value of the ultimate tensile strength reaches 1222 MPa. During the partitioning process, carbon partitioning and carbon homogenization within austenite affect interface migration. In addition, the volume fraction and grain size of retained austenite observed in the final microstructure will also be affected.展开更多

The research results show that the wear resistance of the Mn18Cr2 cast steel is superior to that of the Mn13Cr2 cast steel under the condition of the same carbon content and different impact abrasive wear conditions because the Mn18Cr2 cast steel possesses higher worn work hardening capacity as well as a more desirable combination of high hardness and impact toughness than that of the Mn13Cr2 cast steel. When a 4.5 J impact abrasive load is applied, the wear mechanism of both steels is that plastic deformation fatigue spalling and micro-cutting coexist, and the former dominates. When the carbon content is increased, the worn work hardening effect becomes increasingly dramatic, while the wear resistance of both steels decreases, which implies that an increase in impact toughness is beneficial to improving the wear resistance under severe impact abrasive wear conditions. Under the condition of a 1.0 J impact abrasive load, the wear mechanism of both steels is that plastic deformation fatigue spalling and micro-cutting coexist, and the latter plays a leading role. The worn work hardening effect and wear resistance intensify when the carbon content is increased, which implies that a higher hardness can be conducive to better wear resistance under low impact abrasive condition.展开更多

The influence of deformation extent (10%-50%), cone angle of die (90 °-120 °), hardness after quenching and tempering (HRC21-29) and lubricated condition on the forming load was analyzed. The results show that there is no central bursting and micro crack in the inner of the extruded specimen, and the forming quality is good. The double-peak phenomenon takes place at the front-end of the specimen; the double-peak index increases with deformation extent, and larger deformation can avoid the double-peak phenomenon. The deformation extent is the most important influencing factor, and the lubricated condition almost has no influence, which means that the phosphate coating plus soap process is still a proper lubrication method for cold extrusion of medium carbon steel after quenching and tempering. By investigating the microscopic structure before and after deformation, the initial equiaxed grain is elongated in the extrusion direction, and this feature is more significant at the front-end of specimen.展开更多

The results show that the yield strength of both is quite strong with regular changes in the tempering temperature, but that the tensile strength of the tube tempered by induction heating is higher than that tempered by traditional tempering by about 25 MPa,and the elongation after induction tempering is significantly higher than that after traditional tempering. The differences in the microstructures of tubes after induction and traditional tempering were compared by metallographic microscope, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy.Theoretical analysis was also performed. Compared with traditional tempering,a fine dispersion of precipitated carbides occurs after induction tempering, which is the main reason for the performance differences.展开更多

In the small elongation stage, the boundaries between ferrite and carbide in this steel can release dislocations. As the elongations increase, the moving dislocations in the ferrite slip onto the carbides. Then, the interaction between moving dislocations and dislocations released from this boundaries, and the interaction between the dislocations moving to the carbides in every slip plane occurs. Thereby, the dislocation tangles around the carbides can be formed. In the large elongation stage, the dislocation tangles with high dislocation density and the developed dislocation cells are formed.展开更多

By investigating the microscopic structure before and after deformation, the initial equiaxed grain is elongated in the extrusion direction, and this feature is more significant at the front-end of specimen.
文摘In this study,a C-Mn quenched steel tube was quickly tempered by induction heating, and the influence of the tempering temperature on its performance was studied and compared with that by traditional tempering. Compared with traditional tempering,a fine dispersion of precipitated carbides occurs after induction tempering, which is the main reason for the performance differences.
文摘The variations of the dislocation structures in the quench and 650℃ tempered steel with increase of elongations have been investigated by using transmission electron microscopy. In the large elongation stage, the dislocation tangles with high dislocation density and the developed dislocation cells are formed.
文摘The 8.8 grade non-quenched and tempered bolt steel was studied according to the process conditions of wire rod plant and customer requirments.Three types of experimental steel grades were selected.10MnSiTi Nb and 20Mn2VTi(N) were chosen as the formal steel after several experimemts.
文摘Cold-rolled martensitic steel is an important type of advanced high-strength steel for automobile production. With martensite as its primary microstructure constituent, martensitic steel possesses exceptional high strength despite its low alloy content. As the strength of cold-rolled martensitic steel increases, the martensite and carbon content also increases, leading to a decrease in bending properties and toughness. In this paper, the effect of various tempering parameters on the bending property and impact toughness of a quenched cold-rolled martensitic steel sheet was studied. It is found that after quenching, the ductility and impact toughness of the experimental steel are improved using low-temperature heat treatment. The optimal tempering conditions for ductility and toughness are analyzed.

文摘The HAZ microstructure and performance of Quenching and Tempering mode temper bead welding and general welded joints which were made on SA508-3 steel of 60 mm thickness were compared in this article. The result shows that tempering sorbite which has excellent overall performance was obtained in both modes. The microstructure of Quenching and Tempering mode welded joints got more fine grain. Even though the hardness of tempering bead welded joints is higher than the general one,it still meets the standards which is lower than 350 HV. The impact absorbing energy of each district of tempering bead welded joints HAZ reached 170 J,which is equal to general one.

文摘Corrosion-resistant-alloy(CRA)clad steel combines the good mechanical properties of the base material and the excellent corrosion resistance of the cladding material, while also being much more economical than solid CRAs.As gas and oil fields can have high concentrations of H2 S,Cl-,CO2,and other chemicals, the pipes used to transport gas or oil must have high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties.UNS N08825 nickel-based alloys with their excellent corrosion resistance can be a good cladding material in clad steel. In this paper,UNS N08825+X65 clad steel was produced by two different processes. The thermomechanical and quenching and tempering processes were investigated and their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance were compared.Intergranular corrosion and pitting corrosion tests were conducted and the results were evaluated.A high-pressure and high-temperature gas-field environment was also simulated to test the stress corrosion cracking of the steel. The results show that both clad plates have good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance. The experimental results were compared and the differences between the two processes were identified and discussed.
文摘Effect of rare earth metals (REM) on tempering process and decomposition kinetics of martensite and retained austenite of high carbon steel were investigated by DSC technique, based on the non-isothermal kinetic theory. The result shows that the addition of REM in high carbon steel increases the decomposition temperatures of martensite and retained austenite, decreases the thennal effect values, elevates the activity energies and changes the transformation mechanism.

文摘In this investigation, an attempt has been made to study the influence of welding consumables on the factors that influence cold cracking of armour grade quenched and tempered (Q&.T) steel welds. Flux cored arc welding (FCAW) process were used making welds using austenitic stainless steel (ASS) and low hydrogen ferritic steel (LHF) consumables. The diffusible hydrogen levels in the weld metal of the ASS and LHF consumables were determined by mercury method. Residual stresses were evaluated using X-ray stress analyzer and implant test was carried out to study the cold cracking of the welds. Results indicate that ASS welds offer a greater resistance to cold cracking of armour grade Q&T steel welds.
