SiC powder was rapidly synthesized in an induction furnace with crystalline silicon cutting waste and active carbon as raw materials,and then SiC porous ceramics were prepared at 1600 t for 4 h with carbon embedded using the powder as raw material,the starch and the graphite as pore-forming agents.Effects of additions of different pore-forming agents on the phase composition,microstructures,physical properties,and cold crushing strength of the porous ceramics were investigated.The results show that the main crystalline phases of the synthetic powder areα-S iC(6H-SiC)andβ-SiC(3C-SiC).The phase composition of the porous ceramics includesα-S iC(6H-SiC),β-SiC(3C-SiC),FeSi,quartz and Si2N20.The apparent porosity and closed porosity of the porous ceramics prepared by adding starch are higher,and the cold compressive strength of the porous ceramics added with graphite is higher.As increasing the additions of the starch,the apparent porosity,closed porosity and linear shrinkage ratio of the porous ceramics increase,and the bulk density decreases correspondingly.When 20 mass%starch is added,the apparent porosity,closed porosity,linear shrinkage ratio and cold compressive strength are 57.05%,2.03%,5.10%and 10.20 MPa,respectively. 展开更多

SiC porous ceramics were prepared at 1 400 ℃ for4 h with crystalline silicon cutting waste and activated carbon as main starting materials and NH4HCO3 as the pore-forming agent. Effects of NH4HCO3 additions( 0,20%,30%,40%,by mass) on the phase composition,microstructure,sintering properties,cold compressive strength and thermal shock resistance of as-prepared Si C porous ceramics were investigated. The results show that:( 1) addition of NH4HCO3 remarkably influences the apparent porosity and cold compressive strength of specimens. The apparent porosity achieves its maximum value( 63. 40%) when 40% NH4HCO3 is added,while the minimum cold compressive strength is 4. 77 MPa;( 2) the specimen with 40% NH4HCO3 has the best thermal shock resistance. The thermal cycling times between1 000 ℃ to room temperature reach 62;( 3) the addition of NH4HCO3 does not remarkably affect the phase composition of the specimens;( 4) the specimens include a large number of SiC particles and a small amount of SiC whiskers. 展开更多

In this work,novel carbon nanotube(CNT)/CoSi/SiOC nanocomposite ceramics with in-situ formed multi-walled CNTs and core-shell structured CoSi@C nanoparticles were successfully prepared via a single-source-precursor derived ceramic approach.Ppolymericprecursor characterization as well as phase evolution,microstructure,and electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorption properties of the ceramics were investigated in detail.The results show that the in-situ formed CNTs and magnetic CoSi@C nanoparticles provide a synergistic effect on both dielectric loss(tand:)and magnetic loss,leading to outstanding EMW absorption properties of the ceramics annealed at only 1100 C.(i)For the Co feeding of 6.25 wt%,the minimum reflection loss(RLmin)is-53.1 dB,and the effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)is 4.96 GHz(7.12-12.08 GHz)with a ceramic-paraffin hybrid sample thickness of 3.10 mm,achieving full X-band coverage;(i)for the Co feeding of 9.09 wt%,the RLmin value of-66.4 dB and the EAB value of 3.04 GHz(8.40-11.44 GHz)were achieved with a thickness of only 2.27 mm.Therefore,the present CNT/CoSi/SiOC nanocomposite ceramics have potential applications for thin,lightweight,and efficient EMW absorption in harsh environments. 展开更多

An AZ41 magnesium alloy in the hot-rolled condition without further thermomechanical processing to modify its microstructure was investigated to establish its suitability for use within a superplastic forming process and to establish optimum forming parameters.Formability was assessed using elevated temperature tensile testing and hot gas bulging,across a range of strain rates(1×10^(−1)−1×10^(−3)s^(−1))and temperatures(350−450℃).Circle grid analysis with GOM Aramis cameras was used to understand peak strains and material thinning in relation to industrial forming processes.Post forming EBSD and STEM analysis was conducted to understand the mechanisms responsible for the materials formability,with dynamic recrystallization being clearly evident.Peak elongation of 520%was achieved at 450℃ and 1×10^(−3)s^(−1);industrially relevant elongation was achieved at 1×10^(−2) s^(−1) at both 450℃(195%)and 400℃(170%). 展开更多

With the selected material, microformability tests have been carried out with the specially developed evaluation method by using two kinds of stainless steel dies. With these dies, micro-extrusion tests have been carried out and the characteristics of microformability of the material have been clarified. Effects of processing parameters and die structure on forming have been analyzed. SEM and metallographic microscope have been used to analyze the formed specimens. Through analysis of flow lines of the formed specimen, behavior of material could be understood well. 展开更多

Metal forming plays an important role in manufacturing industry and is widely applied in industries.The tradi- tional finite element method(FEM)numerical simulation is commonly used to predict metal forming process.Conventional finite element analysis of metal forming processes often breaks down due to severe mesh distortion,therefore time-consuming remeshing is necessary.Meshfree methods have been developed since 1977 and can avoid this problem.This new generation of computational methods reduces time-consuming model generation and refinement effort,and its shape function has higher order connectivity than FEM’s.In this paper the velocity shape functions are developed from a reproducing kernel approximation that satisfies consistency conditions and is used to analyze metal tension rigid viscoplastic deforming and Magnesium Alloy(MB 15)sheet superplastic ten- sion forming.A meshfree method metal forming modeling program is set up,the partition of unity method is used to compute the integrations in weak form equations and penalty method is used to impose the essential boundary condition exactly.Metal forming examples,such as sheet metal superplastic tension forming and metal rigid viscoplastic tension forming,are analyzed to demon- strate the performance of mesh free method. 展开更多

Firstly,the relation between the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)and the volume fraction of TiO_(2) was investigated, and also the influence of relative density of ceramic on the CTE was studied.The results show that the volume fraction of TiO_(2) and the relative density both make influence on the CTE of ZrO_(2)-TiO_(2) ceramic.According to the results,the ZrO_(2)-TiO_(2)(volume fraction of TiO_(2) is 27%)ceramic die with the similar CTE(8.92×10^(-6) ℃^(-1))to Ti6Al4V was fabricated.Secondly,to evaluate the dimensional accuracy of the workpiece superplastically formed,the Ti6Al4V impression experiment was performed.The result shows that the dimensional inaccuracy of workpiece is 0.003.Thirdly,in order to evaluate the practicability,the experiment of superplastic forming Ti6Al4V using ZrO_(2)-TiO_(2) cylinder ceramic die was carried out.The Ti6Al4V cylinder shows good shape retention and surface quality,and high dimensional accuracy.The ceramic dies seem to be adequate for superplastic forming the high accuracy Ti6Al4V, and the trials have confirmed the potential of the ZrO_(2)-TiO_(2) ceramic die. 展开更多

The contacting problem of sheets is analyzed by using the penalty method. In order to solve the contact problem of different parts of the sheet, a new algorithm for contacting judgment is proposed. According to the relation of the distance vector and the vector of contacting element area, and the condition of contact, it can be judged whether or not a node on the slave surface and the corresponding master surface are in the state of SPF/DB. The Mindlin shell element is employed to simulate SPF/DB process of an asymmetry double-cell cup of Ti-6Al-4V to examine the efficiency of the new algorithm using ARVIP-3D. The results of the numerical simulation are in good agreement with experimental results. 展开更多

Employing low pressurized gas for shaping superplastic metal sheets into complex contours has long been adopted in the aero/auto industries and it is commonly recognized as superplastic forming (SPF). The most undesired feature of SPF would be an uneven thickness distribution in the final formed part. However, there are techniques that lessen this disadvantage. Low pressurized gas was used to make a V-shaped trough containing deep uneven concavities using superplastic AA5083. The auxiliary yet influential procedure of mechanically hot bending the flat sheet into a V-shape precedes the gas-forming process. In this first quick hot-bending operation, buckling will occur if the depth of bending exceeds a certain level. The degree of buckling and associated contours will affect the thickness distribution as well as the wrinkling location in the gas-formed product. A better thickness distribution is obtainable at the cost of wrinkle formation. Wrinkling can be purposely arranged to achieve better uniform thickness distribution, but it needs to be located outside the trim line of the gas-formed semi-product. Therefore, it is critical to manipulate the hot bending procedure to yield a suitable pre-form allowing a successful sequential gas-forming process. 展开更多

The superplastic forming and application of GH4169 superalloy are studied. It is shown that for the typical superplastic forming strain rates of 10- 3 s 1 to 10- 4 s -1, the available engineering strains of the fine-grain GH4169 superalloy are always higher than 250% within wide temperature scopes (920 -980℃), and the maximum elongation to failure obtained is 513%. Dynamic grain growth is presented during superplastic deforming for the alloy, and the grain becomes larger with the increase of the strain. A GH4169 fuel manifold of an aerocraft is superplastically formed, and the superplastically formed GH4169 mainfold is tested by 30 MPa hydraulic pressure for 10 min. So some GH4169 alloy complex components can be superplastically formed in the aerospace industry to decrease the costs of fabricating these components. 展开更多

We investigated the effects of heating rate on the process parameters of superplastic forming for Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 by differential scanning calorimetry. The continuous heating and isothermal annealing analyses suggested that the temperatures of glass transition and onset crystallization are heating rate-dependent in the supercooled liquid region. Then, the time-temperature-transformation diagram under different heating rates indicates that increasing the heating rate can lead to an increase of the incubation time at the same anneal temperature in the supercooled liquid region. Based on the Arrhenius relationship, we discovered that the incubation time increases by 1.08-1.11 times with double increase of the heating rate at the same anneal temperature, and then verified it by the data of literatures and the experimental results. The obtained curve of the max available incubation time reveals that the incubation time at a certain anneal temperature in the supercooled liquid region is not infinite, and will increase with increasing heating rate until this temperature shifts out of the supercooled liquid region because of exceeding critical heating rate. It is concluded that heating rate must be an important processing parameter of superplastic forming for Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5. 展开更多

The transient liquid phase diffusion bonding of Si 3N 4 ceramics with Ti/Ni/Ti and Al/Ti/Al multiple interlayers was performed. The formation of intermetallic compounds in situ and their effects on the joints strengths were investigated. The Ti/Ni/Ti interlayers produce NiTi and Ni 3Ti layers with considerable room temperature ductility and high elevated temperature strength to strengthen the bonding zone metals and the joints. The joints with 142 MPa shear strength at room temperature and 88 MPa shear strength at 800 ℃ are achieved under appropriate parameters, respectively. Al/Ti/Al interlayers transform into a special bonding zone metal with a large amount of Al 3Ti particles and a small amount of Al based solid solution, and in this case, the joints are strengthened significantly. Their strengths at room temperature and 600 ℃ reach 90 MPa and 30 MPa, respectively. 展开更多

The main objective of modeling the superplastic forming process is to predict the forming pressure-time cycle to maintain the optimum strain rate and the resulting thickness distribution. There have been many attempts to model superplastic forming process using the various techniques including finite element method. However, most of these attempts so far have disregarded the strain hardening effect which occurs in several superplastic materials. In this study,we have used ABAQUS finite element code to predict the suitable processing variables during an axisymmetric cup forming of Supral 100 and 7075Al alloys to examine the strain hardening effects on forming. We investigated the deformation behaviors of Zr_65Cu_17.5Ni_10Al_7.5 in superplastic forming in silicon mould via numerical modeling and experiments. The data needed for the constitutive formulation were obtained from compressive tests to establish a material library for finite-element simulation using a DEFORM 3D software. A constant speed forming process of a micro gear was modeled where the loading force, feature size and amount of deformation in the micro gear in silicon mould were analyzed in detail for the optimal requirements of micro gear forming and the protection of silicon mould. Guided by the modeling parameters, an amorphous metal micro gear was successfully obtained by our home-made superplastic forming system with the optimized parameters (temperature of 683 K, top speed of 0.003 mm/s until the load force reaching limiting value at 1960 N, and a gradually decelerating process for holding the force to the end). Our work gives a good example for optimization of superplastic forming and fabrication of BMGs in microparts. 展开更多

The complex superplastic forming (SPF) technology applying gas pressure and compressive axial load is an advanced forming method for titanium alloy bellows,whose forming process consists of the three main forming phases namely bulging, clamping and calibrating phase. The influence of forming gas pressure in various phases on the forming process was analyzed and the models of forming gas pressure for bellows were derived according to the thin shell theory and the plasticity deformation theory. Using the model values, taking a two-convolution DN250 Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy bellows as an example, a series of superplastic forming tests were performed to evaluate the influence of the variation of forming gas pressure on the forming process. According to the experimental results these models were corrected to make the forming gas pressures prediction more accurate. 展开更多

This paper presents an approach which enables surface modelling, mesh generation and the Finite Element (FE) analysis to be integrated together to simulate superplastic forming process for complex shaped components. Techniques have been developed to generate an FE mesh over non-four-sided surface areas, the boundaries of which are Bezier curves of arbitrary degree, using a consistent expression. Theoretical evidence is given to determine the number of Bezier triangular patches required for accurately re-constructing die surfaces within a commercial FE solver. The developed techniques have been successfully used in determining the process parameters for forming a 3D rectangular box. 展开更多
