Results showed that the segregation of pathogenicity in this genetic cross was abnormal, i.e., most of the progeny isolates were nonpathogenic on both host plants. However, no abnormal segregation was observed when middle repetitive sequence MGR586 and 31 single-copy RFLP markers from all of the chromosomes were genetically analyzed. At the same time, comparison of the chromosomal organization among two pairs of parental isolates did not find any genomic abnormity. These results suggested that the "abnormal" inheritance of pathogenicity in this cross was most likely due to the reassortment of numerous host species specificity genes but not the biased segregation of the host species specificity genes. The host species specificities in M. grisea were likely to be multigenically controlled, at least in the genetic cross involving rice pathogen and the grasses pathogen other than rice.展开更多

Thus, there is a great need for the design of probes or sensors with high sensitivity and selectivity for detecting and monitoring Hg(II) at physiological pH. Thus a novel and simple molecular probe P1 was prepared from 1,1'-(1,3-phenylene)-bis(2,4-pentanedionato) for sensing Hg(II) via chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) mechanism. The probe indicated a selectively fluorescent response to Hg(II) in aqueous media excited by the ultraviolet light of 254 nm. The recognition mechanism was further studied by semi-empirical AM1 and molecular mechanics MM+ methods in HyperChem 8.0. The calculation indicated a tetrahedron coordination geometry for Hg(II) and a chair-like configuration for the total molecule. The fluorescent images sensing Hg(II) in living mouse fibroblast cells by the probe were obtained by fluorescence microscope.展开更多

It’s the four-star hotel where I work as a chief cook. My job is to manage nine kitchens—both Chinese and Western. I have been a chef for 34 years. After graduated from school in 1964, I studied Chinese cuisine for three years. I believed that it was a job worth doing. In the past, people looked down on this occupation; they thought it was a low-class job because cooks were always serving other people. I, however, found the job very interesting. After all, I reasoned, everyone needs to eat. If we could make eating into a kind of art or a science, eating could become an act of culture. People engaged in the food industry treat the act of eating with a respect that most people cooking at home do not feel. But for those of us who work in prestigious hotels whose guests come from all over the world and have different customs and tastes, it is our job to put the Chinese cooking展开更多
