Results showed that weight loss was markedly significant (p < 0.05) from days 3 - 21 (PI) in chickens and mild (p < 0.05) on days 3 and 15 PI in ducks. The antibody response obtained showed significant (p < 0.05) increase in infected chickens (IC) than those of the infected ducks (ID). While the total serum protein and serum globulin increased significantly (p < 0.05) in IC on days 7 and 14 PI, they decreased significantly (p < 0.05) in ID only on day 21 PI. The immune responses and serum protein values in this experiment X-ray showed less susceptibility of ducks when compared with the chickens. This may be related to marked anorexia and severe dehydration observed in the latter consequent upon serum concentration. Ducks could be maintaining the endemicity of Newcastle disease (ND) as reservoir host.展开更多

Following intramuscular inoculation, the results indicated significantly lower (p < 0.05) packed cell volume (PCV) in infected chickens (IC) on days 3 - 9 post inoculation (PI) and in infected ducks (ID) on days 3 - 15 PI. The hemoglobin concentrations were significantly lower (p < 0.05) in IC on days 3, 6 and 15 PI while in the ID, they were significantly lower (p < 0.05) on days 3, 9 and 15 PI. The total erythrocyte counts were significantly lower (p < 0.05) in IC on days 3, 9 and 15 PI and in ID, they were significantly lower (p < 0.05) on days 3 and 9 PI. The mean corpuscular values indicated macrocytic hypochromic anemia in IC and macrocytic normochromic anemia in ID. The leucogram showed leucopenia in IC and initial leucopenia followed by leucocytosis in ID. The hematological pictures of the velogenic NDV in this experiment indicate less susceptibility of ducks when compared with the chickens. In order to investigate the effects of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) against bacterial infection in chickens, 35 3-day-old AA broiler chickens were fed adaptively for two days and randomly divided into five groups,...In order to investigate the effects of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) against bacterial infection in chickens, 35 3-day-old AA broiler chickens were fed adaptively for two days and randomly divided into five groups, including Escherichia coli experimental group ( group 1 ), Escherichia coli control group (group 2), blank control group ( group 3 ), PasteureUa experimental group ( group 4), and PasteureUa control group ( group 5 ). At 5 days of age, the chickens in group 1 and group 4 were drenched with 5 p.mol/kg ATRA for seven consecutive days according to their weight; the chickens in group 2, group 3 and group 5 were drenched with an equal volume of dimethyl sulfoxlde (DMSO). The clinical symptoms and weight changes in each group were observed and recorded. Seven days later, the chickens were euthanized and dissected to determine the immune organ indexes. The results showed that there were significant differences in body weight between ATRA-administrated chickens and non-administrated chickens after bacterial infection (P 〈 0.05 ) ; moreover, the immune organ indexes of ATRA-administrated chickens exhibited significant differences compared with control group (P 〈 0.05 ), indicating that ATRA could promote the development of immune organs of poultry, thereby enhancing the body immunity against bacterial infection.展开更多
In this study,four strains of Toxoplasma gondii with the same genetic type(Type I) originated from chicken,human,cat and swine were used to compare the immune responses in resistant chicken host to investigate the r...In this study,four strains of Toxoplasma gondii with the same genetic type(Type I) originated from chicken,human,cat and swine were used to compare the immune responses in resistant chicken host to investigate the relationships between the parasite origins and the pathogenicity in certain host.A total of 300,10-day-old chickens were allocated randomly into five groups which named JS(from chicken),CAT(from cat),CN(from swine),RH(from human) and a negative control group(—Ve) with 60 birds in each group.Tachyzoites of four different T.gondii strains(JS,CAT,CN and RH) were inoculated intraperitoneally with the dose of 1×10~7 in the four designed groups,respectively.The negative control(-Ve) group was mockly inoculated with phosphate-buffered saline(PBS) alone.Blood and spleen samples were obtained on the day of inoculation(day 0) and at days 4,11,25,39 and 53 post-infection to screen the immunopathological changes.The results demonstrated some different immune characters of T.gondii infected chickens with that of mice or swine previous reported.These differences included up-regulation of major histocompatibility complex class Ⅱ(MHC Ⅱ) molecules in the early stage of infection,early peak expressions of interleukin(IL)-12(IL-12) and-10(IL-10) and long keep of IL-17.These might partially contribute to the resistance of chicken to T.gondii infection.Comparisons to chickens infected with strains from human,cat and swine,chickens infected with strain from chicken showed significant high levels of CD4~+ and CD8~+ T cells,interferon gamma(IFN-γ),IL-12 and IL-10.It suggested that the strain from chicken had different ability to stimulate cellular immunity in chicken.展开更多
