A set of algorithms is proposed in this paper to automatically transform 3D animal models to Chinese painting style. Inspired by real painting process in Chinese painting of animals, we divide the whole rendering proc... A set of algorithms is proposed in this paper to automatically transform 3D animal models to Chinese painting style. Inspired by real painting process in Chinese painting of animals, we divide the whole rendering process into two parts: borderline stroke making and interior shading. In borderline stroke making process we first find 3D model silhouettes in real-time depending on the viewing direction of a user. After retrieving silhouette information from all model edges, a stroke linking mechanism is applied to link these independent edges into a long stroke. Finally we grow a plain thin silhouette line to a stylus stroke with various widths at each control point and a 2D brush model is combined with it to simulate a Chinese painting stroke. In the interior shading pipeline, three stages are used to convert a Gouraud-shading image to a Chinese painting style image: color quantization, ink diffusion and box filtering. The color quantization stage assigns all pixels in an image into four color levels and each level represents a color layer in a Chinese painting. Ink diffusion stage is used to transfer inks and water between different levels and to grow areas in an irregular way. The box filtering stage blurs sharp borders between different levels to embellish the appearance of final interior shading image. In addition to automatic rendering, an interactive Chinese painting system which is equipped with friendly input devices can be also combined to generate more artistic Chinese painting images manually. 展开更多

Planning and design of modern residential landscapes in China has experienced rapid growth, but many residential areas have simulated western landscape designs and lost the ambience of traditional Chinese landscape painting, and the designs have shown poor diversity, artistic quality or unification of landscapes and environmental effects. Hence, the paper proposed that modern residential landscape design should be integrated with Chinese landscape painting factors, and the concept of "human-nature oneness" should be demonstrated to create garden landscapes suitable for appreciating, sightseeing, living and enjoying, and also living spaces with picturesque scenery. Through analyzing landscape designs of "Century Sunshine Garden" in Hefei City, Anhui Province, the study explored the integration of modern residential landscapes and Chinese landscape painting ambience, so as to create green, ecological, healthy, practical landscapes for modern residential areas. 展开更多

Compared with the western painting, the freehand brushwork characteristics are very significant in traditional Chinese painting. In traditional Chinese painting, top priority is given to the expression of the creator's subjective interests, but not to the external colors and similar appearances. The masters in the world of traditional Chinese painting have always attached high importance to expressing the spirits with forms or appearance since the ancient times. In traditional Chinese painting, "similarity in form or appearance" and "similarity in spirit" are always dialectically unified with consciousness and unconsciousness, so that the art form with the "freehand brushwork" aesthetic characteristics is produced and significantly features Chinese spirit and oriental style. Also, the realm of art to express spirit with appearance is always pursued in traditional Chinese painting, and this is totally different from the "express appearance with appearance" in the western paintings. Moreover, expression is always stressed in traditional Chinese painting so as to express the feeling world of human using the "freehand brnshwork" aesthetics as the creation method. In computer graphics, non-photorealistic rendering(NPR) is an important branch. NPR technology is to achieve a variety of artistic effects through the computer, such as oil painting, cartoon, watercolor and other effects. The purpose of this paper is to automatically convert the 3D model into two-dimensional Chinese ink painting effect on graphics processing unit(GPU), and has improved the traditional algorithm that has some lacks of rendering effect. The algorithm is divided into two major steps: contour line rendering, and interior rendering. For contour line rendering, on the basis of the traditional extraction of contours, this paper adds self-bold, particle diffusion and other steps. For interior rendering, on the basis of the traditional layered rendering of diffuse lighting, two methods are added. The first method is based on the mean filtering, and the filter kernel is stratified by the principle of percentage-closer soft shadows(PCSS). The second method is Noise texture mapping, to obtain an ink diffusion effect. 展开更多
